真係自由

Less than 30 hours before the 26th anniversary of the handover of sovereignty in Hong Kong, the atmosphere in the city is abnormally tense. Deng Bingqiang, a former police officer who rose to the position of Secretary for Security, revealed that the office of the Security Bureau was adorned with numerous Chinese national flags and Hong Kong regional flags, and he himself wore a red tie while taking a personal photo. On the other hand, there are reports that the Hong Kong police have warned activists recently, threatening them with arrest if they appear in Causeway Bay, the location of Victoria Park where the annual July 1st pro-democracy march usually takes place.

Samuel Bickett, an American human rights lawyer who was imprisoned during the 2019 Hong Kong extradition bill protests, quoted information from Hong Kong activists on Twitter on Thursday (28th), stating that the police have "invited" them to the police station this week to warn them that they will be arrested if they appear in Causeway Bay, specifically Victoria Park, on Saturday (1st). The police warning is not about urging them to abide by the law and refrain from illegal activities, but rather to avoid appearing in public places.
