Book Review of "The End of Something" ByHemingway

"The end of something" means the end of a relationship. This is a little piece of a story about two lovers facing the end of romance. They both knew it, shunned it, yet had to go through with it.

Here, the dialogue functions quite like it does in "Hills Like White Elephants." Readers are dropped into the middle of the tale with no knowledge of a broken-heart moment approaching. By manipulating dialogue skillfully, the story arc has been smoothly driven to its climax. Though the two main protagonists didn't make a scene in their split, they both underwent a hard time and fierce struggles inside.

Hemingway relies on the characters' contradictory body language and responses, as well as their repeated asking, denying, and admitting. The mechanics of conversation are neatly deployed like a sophisticated set of gears, and these mundane lines reveal a lot about what the characters are thinking.
