書評:《Shantih Shantih Shantih》- Daryl Qilin Yam
🔖”But did you know, that on that day, in fact, there was never enough snow, lying about in piles? That snow will never be enough until it is more than enough? That love will also never be enough until it is more than enough?”
"Shantih Shantih Shantih" by Daryl Qilin Yam is a novella that chronicles the stories of twelve individuals on a snowy day in Singapore and how they cross their path in the city, circling around the themes of love and loneliness.
I got hooked onto the book from the very first segment “You”: Snow, writer, and lovers. It looks romantic at first - yet - with Daryl’s intimate writing, you will soon feel the unspoken solitude. The other chapter that has struck me the most was “The Artist”. It made me realise what snow symbolizes throughout the book – love. To some people, snow only lasts momentarily. It’s something people never hold onto for long. But, to some, that one snowy night will remain a memory of a lifetime. It becomes a scene that keeps replaying in their mind. The senses are still there - as if they can still feel it, touch it.
Though the book writes about loneliness, I can feel the author’s love for writing and his love for us readers.
❄️Special thanks to @scentoryhk for sending me this Book & Scent Set Vol.4: Scent of Snow. The book was a wonderful read and the scent from the essential oil blend kit elevated the ‘snowy’ experience while reading the novella. It’s the best gift I received this holiday season.
