PBA Enforces Suspension on John Amores Following Laguna Incident
Suspension for Misconduct
Amores’ suspension covers the entire 49th season of the PBA, citing “conduct detrimental to the league.” The league made it clear that Amores must address his behavior before being allowed to play again.
Required Counseling for John Amores
As part of the suspension, Amores must undergo counseling to manage his anger. The PBA will approve the program, and clearance from his counselor is required before he can return to the court. This process will continue until professionals deem it complete.
Participation in Team Activities
Despite his suspension, Amores will still be allowed to practice with NorthPort and participate in team activities. He will also receive part of his salary, as keeping him connected with the team is seen as helpful for his rehabilitation.
PBA’s Stance Against Violence
PBA Commissioner Marcial emphasized that both the league and NorthPort strongly oppose any form of violence, on or off the court. He also stressed the importance of responsible gun ownership to avoid similar incidents.
Incident in Laguna
The incident occurred in September during a basketball game between Amores and his brother in Brgy. Salac, Lumban, Laguna. The argument escalated into a shooting, and both were charged with attempted homicide. They were released after posting bail.
