Moroccan fourth-placed Xinhua MF part ways with Man United after one season
Sofiane Amrabat is set to return to his former club Fiorentina after just one season.
Italy's Tuttomercato reported on Monday (June 21) that “Amrabat will not stay at Manchester United. He will return to Fiorentina to show himself to coach Raffaele Palladino. Fiorentina have been informed by United that they are not interested in activating Amrabat's outright transfer option,” reported Tuttomercato.
The Moroccan national started his professional career in Utrecht in the Netherlands. He then played in the Belgian league before moving to the Italian Serie A in 2019. At the time, Amrabat was loaned out to Elas Verona, where he impressed.
His performances attracted the attention of Fiorentina, and he joined the club in the summer of 2020. Amrabat is a three-way midfielder. He has a wide range of vision in the middle of the field and can distribute passes, while also being a good defender and protecting the center backs. His strengths were highlighted at the World Cup. Amrabat led Morocco to a quarterfinal finish at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
His performance with the club in the 2022-23 season was also noteworthy. Amrabat anchored the backline in 49 games across all 메이저사이트 competitions and helped Fiorentina reach the UEFA Europa Conference final. His performances have consistently linked him with big clubs. Barcelona and Tottenham Hotspur were among the clubs he was linked with at the start of the transfer window.
But Amrabat had one goal in mind. He ended up wearing a United shirt on the last day of the summer transfer window last year, signing a loan deal with an option to buy. Amrabat was given the number four shirt and a new challenge.
It was a deal with an option to buy. Amrabat signed for a fee of €10 million, with an option to buy worth €20 million and an add-on of €5 million. However, United do not plan to trigger the option.
Amrabat has shown his versatility in Eric ten Haag's system, even playing as an inverted wing-back early in the season. However, when he was used as a defensive midfielder, he was disappointing. His slow pace and poor judgment often led to him losing the ball, and he also had problems with his feet. In the end, United decided to part ways with Amrabat, who failed to make a big impression.
