Cyberpunk
Cyberpunk is combined with two distinctively different parts: cyber and punk. Personally speaking, I'm highly impressed with these two things colliding with each other. The effect is amazing. Let me explain my understandings pertaining to the two key concepts respectively.
Cyber is related to high tech, especially internet-related stuff. Since the first industrial revolution in the 18th century, technology is advancing in an ever-accelerating pace. In the future, there will be a trend which converges humans and robots. Just as some sci-fi movies indicate, people can equip themselves with electronic arms whilst machines can have some human intelligence and think as we humans do. Perhaps you can insert a chip card to a pig head, and the pig can speak English, learn our human behaviors and even react to our instructions.
Punk is a popular rock music style as far as I know. Can you imagine teenagers playing in this kind of band and drinking beer in a noisy bar? Punk originates from western culture and it depicts a value of anti-society, protest and even rebellion. All the punks strongly dislike non-punks. Furthermore, they are very pessimistic about the society and themselves. It seems that they should not belong to this world. All in all, it's a reflection of people's anxiety towards an unfair society which the wealthy lives well but the poor lives a miserable life.
Cyberpunk, otherwise, is a futuristic prediction where those hackers are in charge of all the data and thus control all social medias and normal citizens' viewpoints towards everything. Let me give an example, if the top internet talents spread the news that tomorrow is the end of the earth. This shocking joke suddenly displays in the big screens of many shopping malls, in your news apps and everywhere. Everyone around you starts to fear about it, how can you stay calm and treat it as a lie?
The worst consequence of cyberpunk is that the whole world is rigorously separated to two groups. The less is extremely rich guys like data scientists and capitalists. The mass is fleabags living in the slums. And between them is an insurmountable line forever.
it must be a negative imagination of our future life. From my perspective, the method of avoiding cyberpunk, this distorted social phenomenon, could be some strict regulations against those cyber genius and ensure they use high techs to make a better future rather than destroy it. Some technologies face moral issues like clone and atomic bomb. Restricting their uses is protecting humans' society. In additions, the governments and even the UN should build up and develop a welfare system to assist impoverished residents and enhance their living standards a little bit. Although it's difficult to put into effect I know, but it sounds like a must-do theoretically.
I really hope our future could be an ecosystem in which humans live harmoniously with data, AI and all the high techs. We control them, rather they imprison us.
