Mutombo’s Lasting Legacy
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver expressed deep sadness, calling Mutombo “larger than life.” He praised both Mutombo’s legendary shot-blocking ability and his commitment to helping others off the court.
Defensive Icon and Humanitarian
Mutombo was known for his incredible shot-blocking skills and his famous finger-wag gesture. Off the court, he was just as impactful, dedicating much of his time to humanitarian efforts around the world.
NBA All-Star and Hall of Famer
Mutombo was an eight-time NBA All-Star and was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2015. After retiring in 2009, he became the NBA’s first global ambassador, continuing to inspire others internationally.
Rest in peace, Dikembe Mutombo. Your contributions on and off the court will always be remembered.
