用一場演出看 Beth Gibbons 用生命唱歌

相對於本名 Beth Gibbons，她更知名的身份為傳奇樂團 Portishead 的主唱。（關於 Portishead 的傳奇，可以寫個好幾篇。這裡就不多做敘述。）看她談話的時候的反應以及表情，你會感覺她是個單純害羞的小女生。但當音樂一開始，她馬上像是被附了身，換了個靈魂。沙啞乾枯的嗓音，煙燻的黃齒，淒苦的表情，佝僂的身影，披頭的散髮，像是渾身痛楚的在台上一擺又一擺。

音樂慢慢從單純的吉他配歌唱開始，像是不插電演出。"Funny Time of Year" 這首歌的弦律很特別，在小調與大調之間轉換。聽者的情緒也一層又一層地被帶著進入到核心 --- 冬天來了，沒有什麼我可以改變的，我能聽到的只有風聲及雨聲。我現在就需要你，但無法相見。我四處遊蕩在這可笑的季節，怎麼也看不見樹上綻放的花朵。

從低聲哀怨，愈唱愈氣憤，唱到發狂。最後當吉他哀嚎，鼓聲暴躁的時候，Beth 索性拿起一塊布刷起了鍵盤，用動作及合成器表現出情緒的最高點。就算當周圍都安靜了下來，她還是沈浸在情緒之中，動作之大讓舞台的樂器都跟著晃動。之後背對著觀眾，像是個瘋子對空搖動，最後默默被工作人員指引下台。

"Funny Time of Year" 收錄在 Beth Gibbons 目前唯一一張個人專輯《Out Of Season》當中。對我而言，這是一張展現了各種像這樣對「生命」的體悟的專輯。

專輯開頭的第一首歌 "Mysteries"就是一段溫暖的內心獨白："God knows how I adore life. When the wind turns on the shores, lies another day, I cannot ask for more." ... "And the moments that I enjoy, a place of love and mysteries, I'll be there any time." 唱著對生命的感動。

但有時候，生命也有絕望。"Show" 這首歌唱的就像是我們常說的「人生就是戲」。但它並非是個精彩的喜劇，而是個鬧劇，一場被迫參加遊戲。我們從不知道我們在這齣鬧劇會說出什麼樣的台詞。日出日落，時光流逝，事情一件件發生，而我依然在這。

整首歌安安靜靜，卻極其沈痛。歌詞像首詩：
