The first round of the 2023-2024 International Skating Union (ISU) Figure Skating Senior Grand Prix, where the world’s best athletes will compete, will be held in Allen, Texas, USA, starting on the 21st (Korean time).

In Korea, the women’s singles Yuyoung and Wi Seoyoung (Suri High School) and the ice dance pair Lim Hae-na and Quan Ye (general competition) will compete in the first competition and break the first tape.

Yoo Young and Wi Seo-young will attempt to win medals starting with the women’s short event on the morning of the 22nd.

The pair of Lin Hae-na and Quan Ye will also compete in the rhythm dance on the same day.

Yoo Young played an active role as a leading Korean women’s single player, taking 5th place at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, but she was shocked after belatedly hearing the news that her father passed away during the Olympic Games.

After that, she went downhill due to various injuries.

Although he did poorly in the national team selection event held in January of this year and did not even qualify for the national team, he plans to make a comeback by participating in the first Grand Prix competition and the fifth competition in November as an individual.

The pair of Lim Hae-na and Quan Ye, who took second place at the ISU World Junior Championships in March of this year and became the first Asian team to win a medal, will now take on the challenge of the senior stage.

Cha Jun-hwan (Korea University), the hope of the men’s singles, will participate in the second competition held in Vancouver, Canada starting from the 28th of this month.

Cha Jun-hwan, who won a silver medal at the World Championships last season, will compete in the second competition and the fifth competition to be held in Finland in November, aiming to advance to the Grand Prix Final.

In the Grand Prix Final, the results of the six Grand Prix competitions are added together and the top six final ranking players (six teams) are given the right to participate.

After winning the bronze medal at the 2018-2019 season Grand Prix Final, Cha Jun-hwan repeatedly missed out on a ticket to the final.

Lee Hae-in (Sehwa Girls’ High School), the silver medalist in the women’s singles at the World Championships last season, will compete in the third and final competition, the 6th competition, to be held in France from the 4th of next month.

‘Figure general’ Kim Ye-rim (Dankook University), who reached the final stage last season, will participate in the 4th and 6th competitions.

Players from Russia and Belarus, who were banned from participating in the invasion of Ukraine, will not be able to compete this season.

The ISU announced at its board meeting on the 13th that it is closely examining the situation regarding Russia and Belarus’ participation in international competitions and will maintain disciplinary action until a further decision is made.
