為學日益,為道日損。損之又損,以至於無為。無為而無不為。

一點瑣事

還是要學以致用才能學好英文,挑戰下每天用英文寫點東西。

The fifth wave of pandemic is now again spreading like wildfire in hk. The harbor can barely see a person after dawn. Who can image how vibrant and cheerful it was a few days ago.
People are frenetically fleeing out of this city except those who make their life here. The student hall feels like a deserted island, but I don’t really care about how silent it is. For me, it’d better be this way where you can enjoy a spacious and quiet study room at any time. My mom called me, depicting how terrible the situation is in hk. She was freaked out by the news and the more she watched, the more horrible the situation she imagined I am in. She told me to wear two masks but I thought she was overreacting. I have already got my booster jab. By the way I am not so delicate as she thinks I am.

Later at night, I listened to a podcast by Ezra Klein about public choice theory of government failure. In the show, he mentioned a very interesting theory from a book-the rise and fall of nations-about how complexity of the regulations and rules shapes the evolution of the society, how these sophisticated systems make people bureaucratic. It's good to have a community so that we can hear all people's voices, but when the involved parties increase, it slows the decision making process. And sometimes, the system made to protect the minority may be exploited or overused by individuals. Economist Alex Tabarrok also adds that here is a prison dilemma in which everybody acts in their own interest and it results in a situation which is worse for everybody. He appealed to audience that people should focus more on getting rid of bureaucracy at the bottom of the scale instead of trying to tax big fish like Elon Mask.
