[Private Observation] During my time as a political reporter in China, the people and things I saw (1)

The articles received this time are very diverse, some from mainland China, as well as from Taiwan, Hong Kong, and overseas. Many of the themes involve a wide range of time and space. Many authors have mentioned how their thoughts on China have transcended time and space. space and the experience of living in the slit. Some authors chose relatively few topics, such as ethnic minorities and sexual minorities ; some authors deliberately emphasized the need to write about the " standard model " of China. Some authors choose to focus on specific topics: text , food , and one that I find particularly interesting: football .

There are also several authors who insist on only writing "One China", although the descriptions are from different angles: there is love , there is hate , there is love and hate , and there is no care .

These Chinas contradict each other, but they all exist. Or some people might think that the China featured in these articles is "unrepresentative", or even blindly paranoid; but that's not the point, the point is that these "one-sided" Chinas exist in the eyes of these authors. I came from a social science background and believe in social construction: everything in human civilization is constructed, nothing is self-existing; enough people say it is important, it is important, enough people say it is not It is not important if it is important, and the many "China" collected this time are no exception.

Inevitably, the topic of this time will easily lead to various disputes. Many articles have a long list of discussions that are not necessarily friendly. For this, I apologize to the participating authors. There are also several authors who have chosen tearing itself as the topic. Taking a little bit of attention to see the existence of the dispute just shows that there are differences in the understanding of China, that is, "N China"; the problem is that we should celebrate these differences. In this pluralistic China, we still have to use public power to force everyone to agree with only one prescribed version of China in the narrow sense.

A reader asked me if I had referenced a certain book for this topic. Actually no. Hard to say, maybe I'm subconsciously paying homage to a book that was published many years ago: " 1949 , 1989, 1999".

Finally, many readers have speculated about the political purpose behind this topic, and even said that I want to cheer for Taiwan and Hong Kong independence. I feel a little wronged by this, I just want to advocate a different interpretation from personal experience. But on the other hand, when a place even emphasizes different personal experiences can be misinterpreted as inciting division, then it is understandable that there are more and more "separatist activities".

Humans are political animals. For example, choosing what to eat every day is itself politics, which is not surprising. If there is any "political purpose" for this invitation, it is probably to worry about a post-pandemic China: in the face of changes in its internal and international environment, China will face adversity unseen in recent decades. In good times, it is easy for us to be proud of that single great China imagination, but in adversity we have to think more about China, which is actually full of internal differences; just like when a person faces adversity, he should re-examine his different habits and see if there are any deficiencies. Where there is something out of place, there is something out of place to let go, instead of just entrusting others. Recognizing that there is more than one understanding of China is the first step.

Last but not least, a special thank you to several authors who attended at the last minute. Although this event has ended, this topic has only just begun. I hope that everyone can continue to create and think in order to find a diverse China.
