The theme of this time is: Live (alive), Work (effort), Pose (posture)... These three words are used at the beginning of the episode, which clearly points out the theme of this TV series.

In 1987, in the underground dance hall of New York, among the gays and lesbians of color (Drag Queen, transgender), they competed for beauty pageants with costumes and Voguing Dance (also translated as folded dance in Taiwan), as well as small groups competing in House. culture.

The House of Plenty, led by Elektra, is currently the most cutting-edge team in the ballroom. Because Elektra has strong financial support, her House is also strong and can be attached, but Elektra is selfish and arrogant, and is not such a close House Mother. The purpose is to stand out in every ballroom competition and attract attention.

Blanca, who has been forbearing for a long time, decides to leave the House of Plenty and set up her own House according to her own ideals. She encounters a boy with great dance talent on the street, but was kicked out of the house because of his gay identity - Damon, it is she The first member of the House. And her friend Angel, who also left the House of Plenty, also joined the Evangelista House in Blanca. Then Dimon's boyfriend Ricky and another homeless friend, Little Papi, joined and became the earliest members of the House. Although their conditions are not good enough, unlike other families, Blanca does not want them to win in the dance hall, but to guide them to live with dignity and future.

Blanca half-forced Dimon to apply for admission to the Dance Academy. Dimon missed the time to apply for the audition because of lack of confidence. Blanca did not give up. He also successfully won the admission quota and the dean's favor, so Dimon gradually regained his self-confidence.

The dance hall host Perry is also a costume designer. He and Blanca are both HIV carriers. Facing the death of friends from their own ethnic group because of AIDS, the two have become each other's pillars. Perry also tried his best to help Ivan. The House of Celista excels in every competition.

Elektra's dream is to become a complete woman. When he fulfilled his dream, the father of the gold master was furious and cut off the relationship between the two. Without financial aid and long-term arbitrariness, the family of abundance was dissolved. Blanca kindly took in Elektra, and finally in the annual House Mother election, Blanca successfully became the best Mother of the year.

There are three seasons of the show, and the theme of the first season is struggle and growth. In 1980, gays were still a socially unacceptable sexual minority (vulnerable), and drag queens or transgender people in this group, plus people of color, were the most marginalized group of sexually disadvantaged groups. They want to get rid of those oppressive and incomprehensible eyes, so they show themselves in every competition through gorgeous dresses to seek self-confidence and self-identity. But Blanca is clear that unless you build a House with the right values and help family members find their own worth, there will be no place to stand.

What they have to fight is not only the depression of not being accepted by society, not only to shine on the dance floor, but to shine more confidently in life. There is no hypocrisy in this play. Instead, it goes straight to every issue without being sloppy, and it is so concise and direct that it is hard to breathe. Those straightforward but profound dialogues, plus each character's own problems can extend an issue, and they are gradually solved in each short story, which is one of the reasons why I like this drama very much. . However, there are not many swear words in the play. After all, there are many scenes of these queens tearing each other, and the vocabulary with the prefix F or B appears so many times... Of course, it also shows the lack of understanding and stigmatization of AIDS at that time. , in one of the scenes, Pei Rui went to visit her boyfriend who was sick and was hospitalized, and found that there was food for the patient at the door of the ward. He asked the nurse angrily, but the nurse said that there were not enough nurses who were willing to serve this kind of disease, so he asked them to bring food in. It's even more terrifying for patients... I have seen a lot of heart-wrenching clips!!!

Another big reason is music. A lot of 80s music is used as the background to fit the plot. For me, who loves the music of this era, it is more like a gorgeous time to review music. You will notice that this play should be from Madonna's most classic single "Vogue" at the beginning of the 1990s. She collected music and dance elements that belonged to the underground dance hall culture. With the release of this single, she brought this culture to the ground and carried it forward. Therefore, the story about the previous situation of this culture intrigued me. I didn't expect to watch the first season. I can't stop. The ambition of this play is not only to present an underground cultural phenomenon, nor is it vulgar to find self-worth even if the world is unfair, but to live, work hard, and pose like the words at the beginning. You can't complain or just want to live in the world. If you want to live comfortably and wonderfully, you must know where the real light is.

Catwalk show clips:

Although Elektra has a super aura, his arrogance is lost to the new Blanca. Although the two are both enemies and friends, Blanca still regards Elektra as Mother and the benefactor who saves him. The film faithfully presents the underground fashion, dance hall culture and architectural decoration at that time, and the costumes of the whole play are very meticulous.

Excerpts of singing for people with AIDS:

Perry complained to the nurse that the hospital was too lifeless and should have some vibrant and warm decor. The nurse said that the funds and manpower were not enough, and instead asked Perry, are you not doing entertainment? Why don't you come! So Perry gave a small concert in the hospital, and Branca came to help perform the performance and sang this very song. The touching song "Home".
