"Fate": What kind of fate is carried?

"Fate" was written by Keigo Higashino in 1990. Wow, it's been so long. But now it seems that there is no gap. Or, good novels can stand the test of time.

The back of the book is printed with the words of the author Keigo Higashino: "Never turn to the last page first! If you don't read the last 10 pages, you can't understand the essence of 'fate'! My favorite part of this work is hidden at the end The unexpectedness of a line.”

For this episode, I wanted to see the ending more than usual. In fact, every time I read a book, I have to go through a mental struggle to insist on not turning to the last page first. Of course, doing so would take away the pleasure of reading, so I always resist the urge.

So, I had to read this book as quickly as possible. Only in this way can I see this "fatal" ending clearly and honestly.

Of course, the premise is that the book must be good to read before I will be interested in reading it.

I like "Fate" not only because the "fate" repeatedly emphasized in the book is one of the contents that I am keen to discuss. The second reason is that the book is about old enemies. The third reason is of course that I like to read mystery novels.

"Fate" has all the elements of original mystery novels. Murder case, reasons behind it, alibi, and finding the truth. Keigo Higashino responded to "real reasoning" this way: as long as the work "solves the mystery very theoretically" is considered "real reasoning", but if the mystery is gradually solved during the narrative, or the answer is attributed to a very emotional reason , then it is not true reasoning.

However, even in such an early work, Keigo Higashino was not willing to write a novel with only events, only motives, only prisoners, and only conspiracies. Therefore, "Fate" has always been centered around a larger theme - fate.

The two male protagonists in the novel have been enemies since childhood. From the first moment they met, the two cared about each other's every move. Wakura Yusaku originally came first in everything, but as soon as Guasho Akihiko appeared, he was forever defeated by him. It was like this when I was a child, but when they met when they grew up, they found that their first love was married to the other person, and while I couldn't fulfill my wish to be a doctor, the other person did. Isn't this the pull of fate? As a result, due to a case, Yongsaku investigated the suspect Akihiko as a criminal police officer. This time, he vowed to defeat the opponent. But when the truth emerges, can he really resist fate?

Although there is only one murder case in "Fate", because it also involves a bizarre murder case from more than 20 years ago, coupled with the confrontation between the protagonist's old enemy and the triangular relationship with the heroine, the result does not seem dull at all. And because the case is simple, it can highlight the theme of the book - it has nothing to do with the kind of blood flowing in one's body. What matters is what kind of fate one carries.

Do we all have our own destiny to bear? I don't know, I really don't know.
