Talk about the legendary British trade: plumber

It has long been heard that electricians and plumbers in the UK are high paying jobs. With the start of the home expansion project, I have dealt with electricians, plumbers, carpenters and other people with special skills one after another, and gradually gained a better understanding of them.

The so-called rare is expensive. Wages for plumbers keep rising as there is an extreme shortage of plumbers across the UK, creating a shortage in the labour market. I remember reading a report many years ago that graduates from Oxford University switched careers as plumbers. Some plumbers earn more than £100,000 a year, or even as high as £200,000, more than a university professor! In some high-end residential areas in London, there are also plumbers who buy houses and settle down there with their high salary income. It's no wonder that even graduates of prestigious schools make this decision.

What's more exaggerated is the kind of emergency plumbers, such as: someone's water pipe is broken, the boiler is broken, the faucet blows out, etc., all need professionals to arrive at the first time. Especially at night and on weekends, their fees are extraordinarily high. Remember the last time I had a clogged drain in my house and called a plumber for £50 an hour whether it was fixed or not. This high cost has also forced many people to become DIY masters.

A friend once joked that a high-end job like an electrician, wearing a capable professional attire, is full of aura, like a university professor. On the contrary, some university professors are sloppy and dressed very casually. From their appearance, it seems that they have nothing to do with the university.

With the rise of artificial intelligence, many industries are threatened, especially workers on ordinary production lines, security guards, cashiers, and even some high-end occupations, such as accountants, actuaries, etc., may be replaced by artificial intelligence. Even programmers who write code may be replaced by robots. But jobs like plumbers and electricians, which require a high degree of hand-eye coordination and the analysis of complex problems, seem hard to be replaced by robots.

It got me thinking, why don't you just switch careers and work as a plumber? ? ?
