Taiwanese artist Liu Naiting's "Shape Study" was a great success at fxhash
Last weekend (8/21), another Taiwanese artist s_r_r_z_ conquered the fxhash market! 180 works were sold out at the Dutch auction price of 30 tez (a total of three stages: 100 > 30 > 19), the highest secondary market price also reached a high price of 322 tez, and the total transaction volume exceeded 8,000 tez. Although the content of the creation is slightly controversial and easy to imagine, "Shape Study" still set off a discussion in the Tezos Art ecosystem.
Artist s_r_r_z_, whose real name is Liu Naiting, some people will call him 19. When I was in college, I was fascinated by the generative art of the time. I made a few sketches, published a small zine, and performed three performances on and off. But due to practical factors, after leaving school, I took the case and worked on website design for a few years, then became a full-time front-end developer, and then became a full-time back-end developer. With the rise of the web3 and NFT market, Liu Naiting also resumed program creation, and successively released NFT works on fxhash, and achieved good results.
The "Shape Study" released on fxhash this time is very impactful to the naked eye. It challenges the shape design that everyone is ashamed to talk about. It is inspired by human organs and sex toys, but the work itself hopes to explore deeper topics.
Before making works, Liu Naiting used to conduct research on shape, color, and quality. The shape research, which is connected to people, naturally recalls the obvious and representative shapes of individual differences.
The shape itself is not good or bad, only when two shapes meet, the shape has meaning. I hope everyone who collects this work can encounter the shape they like
Artist Liu Naiting advocates this in his work description. When people explore themselves/others, it can also be said to be a kind of shape study, using a visible concrete to explore an invisible abstraction. Therefore, the works not only challenge the visual sense, but also force collectors or viewers to review their own past.
I am used to creating with p5.js, which means that we must first imagine various shapes, formulate rules, and then convert them into programs to write them. In the process of creation, we often cannot make the ideal appearance. Therefore, even if we find a shape we like and collect it, it does not mean that we prefer a shape, and it will not appear after breaking the rules. We can betray our decisions at any time.
fxhash provides a brand new market for computational artists, expecting more Taiwanese artists to enter the Tezos art ecosystem, and expecting more works to be liberated.
