Double Doctoral Program

On the eve of my master's program graduation, the Japanese post-doctoral senior who was taking me to do experiments, he just got married, married a Taiwanese daughter-in-law, and is about to go to Hokkaido University as an assistant professor. Before he left, he asked me, why didn't he want to directly enter the Bo? Because I am in the university special subject to master class, I have accumulated two international journal papers, and one seminar paper. According to the school's regulations, the thesis points have already met the graduation requirements of the Bo class. Although it is not possible to graduate early, you can directly apply for a doctoral degree in the double-joint class, and get both degrees in five years. Currently studying at the University of Leuven in Belgium. KU Leuven requires only one paper to be published. One of my seniors used this method to get two PhD degrees.

When I heard the news at that time, it was like a bolt from the blue, I didn't know the school system was like this! !

It's also my fault that I didn't ask the senior how to get both degrees. At that time, I was just stupid and immersed in research, I never thought that I could get a degree like this at all.＠＠

So I graduated with regret. After graduating I signed a three-year R&D alternative work contract at a national research facility where there were two large storage rings forming a figure-eight. There are many electrons running around the ring at the speed of light, and they will emit radiation during the running process. These radiations are used by us to do many experiments. So I often wear a radiation armband to record the amount of radiation I'm exposed to. Because of the lead wall, my annual exposure (measured in millisieverts) is less than a hospital x-ray. I heard that someone accidentally brought a radiation armband on the plane, and when they came back, the measured radiation exposure exceeded the company's standard> <

In-service doctoral class

When I first started working in this research unit, I saw that the company had provisions for on-the-job training. But I actually went to apply and found out that I was not eligible, and the time to study would be 3 years later. Because the first year I was in the military service status, not seniority. On-the-job training requires one year of seniority, so you cannot apply until your third year. When I applied, the three-year work contract ended, and it was actually the same as applying directly to the doctoral program after my contract ended.

Doctoral program in Japan

After a lot of hard work, it's back to where it started.

I went back to the instructor of the previous master class, and hoped that he could help me and see what school I could recommend for a doctoral class. I feel that since I want to study, I have to go abroad because I don't want to stay in Taiwan. In addition, I can't guarantee that I can re-read it again. I can publish so many papers, enough to apply for a dual degree, because luck and timing are very important.

The instructor is a highly respected Japanese who once received the Purple Satin Award from the Emperor of Japan. This background makes me think that I should apply for a Japanese school. Although I may not apply for a scholarship, I usually graduate in three years. I have already started working, and I just want to graduate as soon as possible.

However, I was in a relationship with my wife at the time, and I was hesitant to read it. Because, although I can speak Japanese and like Japanese culture very much, she wants to travel to Japan, but she has no plan to stay in Japan for a long time.

What should I do if I do not apply for the scholarship? If she goes to Japan to study, will she not get used to it? Questions like this keep going back and forth in my head.

But she has told me that she yearns to live in Europe and hopes to go to Europe, because she had been to Munich, Germany for a month before. But our opinions at the time were actually different, and we never thought that we would actually succeed in studying in Europe in the end.

PhD program at KU Leuven

When I was talking with the professor, he told me that since I wanted to study, he recommended me to study at the University of Leuven in Belgium. The university is an ancient university with a lot of research and creativity, and it ranks among the top in the global rankings. He said that a postdoctoral researcher worked in his lab when he was in Japan before, and now he is a professor at the University of Leuven, who can do scientific research under this professor. There are five professors under him, each with their own doctoral students, and his own laboratory has also received nearly 30 doctoral students, and the research team is really huge. Following his advice, I started to apply and it took me more than a year to apply and complete the relevant procedures.
