"Good tyrants are unwilling to rest"
Grandpa and I talked about his father, my great-grandfather, and that's my favorite story, you know, a true testimony to history. His great-grandfather's real name was Kang Jian'an, a native of Huaiyin, Jiangsu. He was from the same hometown as Han Xin. When he grew up, he changed his name to Kang Ruihua. He worked in a church hospital run by an American, and because of his work, he came into contact with the Christian faith and was baptized as a Christian, but this faith prevented his family from becoming well-off.
Doctors at that time were even rarer than compressors made in Japan, so he was forced by the Beiyang warlord to be a military doctor. Grandpa still remembers seeing his great-grandfather put on the Beiyang warlord's military uniform, with a big knife, and his body hanging on the east and west, so handsome , I thought for a moment, must be quite handsome. However, his great-grandfather abdicated because he did not agree with the evil deeds of the Beiyang warlords, and resigned from the rich and became poor.
Although his great-grandfather did not work as a military doctor in Beiyang, he still practiced medicine and helped the people, and was known as a great man in the city. Once, a woman with syphilis came to the house for help. At that time, syphilis was an incurable disease, like a label. Although his great-grandfather was a doctor, he was helpless when dealing with incurable diseases. Facing this lonely and starving woman, his great-grandfather went back to his home with grains of rice to get some money for the woman who needed help, so that he could help her. She bought some materials and built a thatched hut next to her to live comfortably.
Later, the town where the great-grandfather lived was occupied by the Japanese, so he had to move his family to live in a nearby village. It was not long before the Communist Party came to "liberate" the village. After a while, the Communist Party began to fight the local tyrants in the villages, divide the fields, and arrest and shoot the rich, landlords and famous people. A man ran up to the grandfather who was still young and said, "Your father has been arrested for a fight, hurry up and have a look!" After all, he was afraid that his father would also be caught and shot.
Sure enough, the great-grandfather began to be fought. Unexpectedly, some of the Communist Party members on the field interjected: "We are fighting bullies who exploit and oppress the people, but you are a "good bully" who has done countless good deeds. You are not suitable for staying in this village. You better leave, don't stay here!" So the great-grandfather's family withdrew safely from the struggle and moved back to the town once occupied by the Japanese.
Grandpa saw these things in his eyes. It was the same when he was the director of a private hospital after he was discharged from the Air Force aviation doctor. He opened a pocket knife, and someone gave him a red envelope of 6,000 yuan, which was a considerable amount at the time. Grandpa still insisted on not accepting it. , so everyone followed suit and sent plaques to grandpa, so later grandpa's house was full of plaques.
As for how Grandpa came to Keelung Port from Shanghai alone at the age of 17, that is another wonderful story.
Bob Marley, an interracial singer-songwriter born in a Jamaican slum, his father is a white British naval officer and his mother is a black maid. Speaking of Jamaica, you may think of Lightning Potter, but this Jamaican half-blood is the originator of reggae music that has influenced European and American pop music far. I don't know how much you know about reggae music. To me, Bob Marley's music is like walking into a bar, ordering a drink in front of the bar, nodding and shaking your shoulders with the music, relaxed and playful.
The ancients said that "the words carry the Tao", so the social democratic fighters of Bob Marley's generation are "songs carry the Tao", which sounds like a relaxed and playful style, but the lyrics express the resistance to authority, fraternity and peace, and equal rights for racial women. The thought, known as "the first third world pop star", was inducted into the Hollywood Rock Music Hall of Fame, received a Grammy Music Lifetime Achievement Award, and was selected by CNN as the closest to Michael Jackson, Beatles, Elvis Presley and Leslie Cheung. The top five among the most recent indicative musicians of the 50 years shows its great influence.
However, Bob Marley, like most pro-democracy fighters who "sing to convey the truth," is not liked by authority figures. In a Jamaican election in 1976 the country was devastated (déjà vu ? ) by election campaigns, with clashes and even killings and arson. To this end, Bob Marley decided to hold a free concert of "Smile Jamaican" to ease the conflict between the two political parties at that time. The same experience as John Lennon, two days before the concert, Bob Marley, his wife and manager were shot by a madman who broke into the house, Marley was shot in the chest and arm, but fortunately the three were not seriously injured , just when everyone thought that Marley would succumb to life-threatening, two days later he still stood on the stage of the concert and sang one of his classic songs "Get up, Stand up".
At the concert, someone asked him why he had to work so hard, and insisted on continuing the concert without recuperating after being shot? He replied:
"The people, who were trying to make this world worse... are not taking a day off. How can I? Light up the darkness.)
Robert Neville, played by Will Smith in the movie I Am Legend, explained Marley in this way: "Bob Marley is a virologist who thinks about all the hatred, racism, violence and viruses in the world. The same can be cured, as long as 'music' and 'love' are injected into people's hearts." Coincidentally, Bob Marley's full name is Robert Nesta Marley (Bob is short for Robert) and the protagonist of "I Am Legend" With a similar name, it can be seen that the director tried to substitute Bob Marley into the life of the protagonist of the movie, coupled with Will Smith's acting skills, it is a perfect interpretation.
But five years later, in May 1981, six months after John Lennon was shot, Bob Marley died of cancer in Miami. His tenth album, released three years later, in 1984, was titled "Legend".
(More interestingly, the original novel for I Am Legend was published in 1954, well, I'm not writing a review.)
Once, a law teacher stood up to test Jesus and said, "Teacher, what should I do to have eternal life?" Jesus asked him, "What does the law say? How do you understand it?" The law teacher replied, " "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind," and "love your neighbor as yourself." Jesus said, "You are right, do it and you will live forever. The teacher of the law, wanting to justify himself, asked, "Then who is my neighbor?" Jesus answered, "A man was robbed on the way from Jerusalem to Jericho. The robber stripped him of his clothes, and He was half-killed, left there, and then sped away. "A priest happened to pass by, and when he saw the man lying on the ground, he quickly went around and continued on his way. Another Levite passed by and followed the previous priest. "Afterwards, a Samaritan passed by, and when he saw this man, he was moved with compassion, and hurriedly went forward and anointed his wound with oil and wine, bandaged him properly, and then helped him to himself. The animal he rode was taken to a nearby inn to be taken care of. The next day, he handed over two silver coins to the innkeeper and said, "Please take good care of this man for me. If the money is not enough, I will supply you when I come back." So, what do you think? Which of these three is the neighbor of the robbed?" The teacher of the law said, "The one who sympathized with him." Jesus said, "Go and do the same."
Luke 10:25–37
Love is the antidote to the world.
If a person loves God and loves people, how can he do something that hurts the world? It is a pity that many Christians out of the love of God still do many things that hurt people. Jesus did not turn away from those sinners, on the contrary he went into the people who were regarded as scum by society. He lived with tax collectors, prostitutes, rebels, lepers, went into the needy people to accompany them, and told them what to do with his actions. for love. And what Jesus hated most was the religious people, the priests and Levites mentioned in Luke's Gospel, who taught the truth in their synagogues and scoffed at the wounded by the roadside. On the contrary, the Samaritans, whom the Jewish people hated and regarded as bastards, were willing to help the merchant who was robbed by robbers.
You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hidden; when a man lights a lamp, he does not put it under the measure, but on the lampstand, and it illuminates the family. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works, and praise your Father in heaven.
Matthew 5:14-16
It's our responsibility to do good, don't expect good deeds to accumulate yin and merit, and don't give us reward stickers. Doing good is out of love, whether it is the universal love of Mohism, the benevolence of Confucianism, the kindness of Buddhism, or the universal love of Christ, as long as we are willing to love, the world will become different because of our efforts.
When I was studying in Wenzao Fifth Special School, I didn't know what was wrong, and suddenly proposed the idea of establishing a "Love Service Club" with a few friends in the class. At that time, there were also many service clubs in the school, such as Tzu Chi Youth Club, Mountain Service Club, and Children’s Service Club. The tutor of extracurricular activities also asked me why I should set up another service club? I replied: "Because I want people to have the idea of giving love, not limited to certain ethnic groups, but to be able to practice love in life." Although the lack of experience in running clubs at that time led to many shortcomings in management, every When I saw how moved the members were after their service, I felt that everything was worth it.
I still remember the first time I went out to serve the elderly in a nursing center near the school. It was really not a service. It was to sing, sing and chat with the elderly. The atmosphere was quite harmonious. For a moment, almost all the teenage students suddenly began to sob, and then burst into tears. Some thought of their elders, some lamented the life experience of the elders in the nursing center, and some simply saw the smile of the old man and realized that they were You can also pay for others.
Because iniquity has increased, the love of many has grown cold.
Matthew 24:12
Do you know when is the end for Jesus? It is when human love becomes cold, when love ceases to exist. The world is dark and sinister, but if we're willing to love those around us, as Bob Marley says:
"The bully is not willing to give up, how can the good bully be willing to give up? Light up the darkness!"
(The above is an old out-of-line service video I edited in 2008, so be careful.)
Ask yourself:
- What do you think the world and society need?
- Who are there around you who need your help?
- How do you define "love"?
postscript:
The best thing is that the love service club I established in 2007 is still operating in Wenzao University, and it has been for more than ten sessions now. The blood rush at that time was like a seed of love, indirectly affecting the lives of hundreds of thousands, maybe tens of thousands of people one day.
