[obsidian#1] Academic use obsidian related

Next, I will write a series of sharing about the obsidian software.

obsidian is a set of very useful article management software, writing software...etc.

I'm more used to it than Notion. The reasons will be explained in detail.

# Course management

I teach several courses, many with overlapping topics. I divided them into "templates" , these modules generally correspond to a separate theme . In Obsidian, I create a "template" page and a "theme" page for each course . For example, Food Safety is both a template and a theme .

Purpose: 1. The topic page is mainly used as a place to link other ideas and references. 2. I also use it to develop ideas. I also have some topics that are smaller than the whole template.

The template page became a refined outline for my lectures. I used pandoc to export it to powerpoint and to pdf for students to use as notes. A template can link to one or more topic pages, and I can also embed links to online resources (lots of youtube videos, news articles, and peer-reviewed articles).

# Curriculum Development

When I make a template , it is inevitable that I will come across new topics that are not very suitable. I can easily create a new theme page for these things that will link to other templates.

I also made a note for each major in our project. This will allow me to relate them to meeting notes, letters of recommendation, etc.

I'm using a Kanban plugin to help keep track of their expected graduation dates so I can make sure they meet the various requirements.

I'm using the Dataview plugin to create a table of all students so we can contact them for various alumni related events.

I take a note of each of my meetings and create a page for each attendee.

I keep finding new things to do

I'd love to find a way to call pandoc directly from obsidian, but I haven't figured it out yet. (<-- can be solved)

#Use PARA and MOC in combination.

I have an index page that shows the channels of my research projects under "P"; school courses, side hustle, personal stuff under "A"; all books, lecture notes and literature under "R"; An "A" below shows something that stops or needs to be stored.

Let's say, for item A under "P", in the index page, there will be a item A MOC that stores introductions, literature reviews, data management plans, etc.

Taking it a step further , every project, document created, lecture, etc. is built from concepts, which are drawn from books and literature. So the whole structure of the system should be: Index -> MOC -> Details of each job -> Concepts used -> Books and Literature -> pdf of books and literature.

I've tried taking daily notes a few times and failed, I'll definitely try again, but haven't really done it yet.

I have tons of folders, partly because I just turned my home directory into my vault. I also plan to share some of these folders at some point and they are all linked to my google drive. Eventually, I can share some, but not all folders

Department Stuff, People, Topics, Templates, Meetings, Courses, Briefings, Unfilled (default for new notes is here), Meeting Minutes (for meeting minutes, I use Date (YYY - MM - DD) and Meeting Title (with calendar name) consistent) to name them)

I include attendees (link to their page), agenda and follow-up. This way, I can send the agenda before the meeting and follow up after the meeting. They get links to related projects and topics.
