Chat about the past: Helping cook vegetarian food
Continuing yesterday’s topic~
Today let’s talk about some of the funniest experiences I’ve had while dining out, below referring to non-vegetarian restaurants.
In fact, it is very convenient to be vegetarian in Taiwan. Especially in recent years, there are many more vegetarian and plant-based restaurants than before, and major supermarkets and stores also have many more vegetarian and plant-based food varieties than before. Even most non-vegetarian restaurants have food that vegetarians can eat~
Basically, as long as you don’t worry about whether the pots and cutlery are separated, or worry about whether meat-based restaurants will mix them in the cooking, it’s really convenient and happy to be vegetarian in Taiwan~
Today Xiaolu is going to talk about a time when I went out with friends and asked them to help me cook vegetarian food in a non-vegetarian restaurant. Some were hilarious and some were heartwarming. The following is about the things I still remember and the things I forgot... I am still grateful. Forgetting does not diminish my gratitude to them~
Basically, the main reason for vegetarianism in Taiwan is religious, so the five pungent foods are usually not eaten. Xiaolu does not eat the five pungent foods (onions, garlic, leeks, sage, and xingqu) but will eat egg and milk lacto-lacto vegetarians (but not ), one time I went to Guanziling to soak in hot springs with my friends. I asked the restaurant to stir-fry vegetables for me. I told the waiter that I was a vegetarian, so please don’t add onions. Then I got stir-fried water spinach with garlic... , I really didn’t add onions….
After reacting to the boss, the boss apologized to me; I apologized to the boss and the waiter, and I should have made my apology more clear. The boss told the waiter how could you not know that garlic is not good...
In the end, the other party fried a plate of water spinach without five spicy ingredients for me. Thank you very much.
But I really can’t blame him. Many people think that onions, garlic and other five spices are also plants~
When we talk about this point from now on, Xiaolu basically holds, don’t ask me, please ask the attitudes of previous practitioners~
Onions and garlic are not clear to the other person, but they still understand. One time when I went to mainland China, I also asked the other person to help me stir-fry vegetables. After explaining for a while that I was a vegetarian, I was given a plate of stir-fried vegetables with shredded pork... ..
When I asked the waiter, he said it was shredded pork!
So shredded pork is not meat….
From then on, you will see a person who takes the trouble to explain, don't add shredded pork, don't add shrimp, don't add fish, just pure vegetables, just boil it with water for me..., by the way, don't add chicken powder when boiled. . . .
Or is it convenient for me to go to the kitchen and cook it myself?
But usually there are very few chances of this kind of thing happening, and it happened in the early years~
Let's take a look at the little tabby last night. It was rare that it was on the motorcycle seat cushion.
White water boiled noodles is usually the most common choice when Xiaolu asks a meat shop to help me prepare it. One time in Kinmen, I also asked the shop to ask for it, because the soup in the big pot will be used to scald the meat and make meat and bone soup. , so the proprietress found a small pot, boiled the noodles in plain water and added green vegetables, cooked them, added some seasonings and served it. Although it was such a simple bowl of noodles, it was delicious and smooth~
Sometimes when I go to a friend's wedding and there are not enough vegetarians at the table, my friend will prepare a vegetarian one. When a friend in Changhua got married, he specially asked an outside vegetarian restaurant to prepare a vegetarian set meal. It seemed that the friend had enough money, because it was necessary. The restaurant asked an aunt to show up to me with all the dishes….
When the restaurant serves one dish and the aunt serves another dish, she will wait for me to finish and ask me if it tastes good. Auntie is very proud to say that their restaurant is very popular! That's it... I followed the others and finished the entire banquet... I was very full... because my aunt was right next to me. I was embarrassed to leave the rest... and I had to work hard to tell her. tasty!
Another time, not long after Xiaolu became a vegetarian, he and his friends went to the Chinatown underground mall in Tainan to eat oyster omelette~
I told my boss that I am a vegetarian. Can you make me an egg omelette?
As soon as the words came out, the boss was so happy that he ran down the street. What was he running for? Borrow a pot~
The boss happily told me: This pot is brand new and has never been used, don’t worry!
Then he made me an egg omelette with the same price but full of satisfaction.
To this day, the smile of the boss and the mutual help among the underground street shops are still unforgettable to me.
Although I'm a vegetarian, I don't object to the sharing of meat and veg dishes, as long as they are washed. I mainly thank the store for their help and thoughtfulness.
Basically, I don’t doubt whether the store staff accidentally got meat while cooking. In theory, if the store says that vegetarians can eat it, I believe it.
The non-dedicated production lines of supermarkets all have instructions that they will be cleaned before production. Usually I buy with the mentality that if I don’t support it, I won’t have this service in the future.
To me, this is a bit like serving tea on the roadside in the past. I am grateful for their thoughtfulness. I want to thank them for allowing us to eat hot food when we are out and not go hungry. We don’t make much money, and we spend a lot of effort. Quite a lot, for which I am grateful~
Finally, let’s take a look at the little tabby that I turned to take pictures of last night to end today’s chat~
But usually when there is a choice, vegetarian restaurants are the main choice~
After all, I am more afraid of them falling...
Like my work? Don't forget to support and clap, let me know that you are with me on the road of creation. Keep this enthusiasm together!
