"The Inaudible Voice," a shrill voice
Lin Zeqiu, an old friend, participated in the Fresh Wave. When the filming started, the extradition was reversed, and the screening caught up with the Wuhan pneumonia. Is it fortunate or unfortunate for this "fashioner"? The short film is titled "The Voice That Can't Be Heard", and the "voice" the director hopes to convey, I am afraid that because the short film is only a small-scale screening, it will not be heard by many people after all.
At the end of 2018, when he started to conceive the short film, I was already listening to him tell the story. By then he had moved to Beijing and occasionally returned to Hong Kong. Every time he returns to Hong Kong, he never forgets the Japanese topic in Mong Kok, and what I am most excited about is hearing him talk about the insider gossip in the Chinese film industry. Much more fun. But the first time we heard him talk about the idea for the short film, we were sitting in an Indian restaurant, and he said he wanted to write a story about a police officer missing a gun.
In the history of movies, it is not uncommon for the police to lose their guns. The director's idol Johnnie To has made one. Guns often have a masculine symbolism, and Lin Zeqiu originally wanted to write this story about a policeman losing a gun, but he actually wanted to write about the father-son relationship, and later extended to the issue of the bullying of the black policeman’s son—of course, this is also one of the father-son relationship. face. Such a pair of father and son, in such a social environment, are not simply facing the problem of father and son. It's just that with the development of the script, the idea of losing the gun gradually disappeared, and the suspended father handed the gun back, while the son got a gun from a friend. However, the scene where the son raised his gun and confronted his father was an idea from the beginning.
Lin Zeqiu was interviewed by the media recently because of this short film. He said that he is actually a marginal person. He came to Hong Kong from the mainland, no matter how much he loves Hong Kong, he will still carry the original sin of "mainlander" because of his birthplace. In terms of creation, he has always felt that he is a marginal person. He wanted to make Hong Kong films, but he felt that he didn't know enough about the pulse of Hong Kong to write enough authentic dialogues; he wanted to make films about China and Hong Kong that he was more confident about, but found it difficult to find investment. When he decided to return to Beijing to look for opportunities, most of the Hong Kong filmmakers had already gone north. He, a "mainlander" who was burdened with the "original sin", was a lot late, and even when he returned to Beijing, he discovered Chinese films. It has almost passed the peak, and it is already the end of the battle, especially after the Fan Bingbing incident. I once jokingly summed up his film career with him: I came to Hong Kong to read films when Hong Kong films were declining, and returned to the mainland to find opportunities when Chinese films were declining.
Lin Zeqiu, who has stepped into marriageable age, always misses the wave. This time, I made a short film, which seemed to catch up with the wave of a social movement, but it was unintentional.
In order to thank my little brother for his little help during the filming, Director Lin invited me to the theater to watch "The Inaudible Voice". There are also three other short films from different parts of the world, which constitute the current Fresh Wave Short Film Festival. The "Time Changes" series. In fact, in the process of his editing, I had already watched several versions on the computer first, but I didn't expect to see it on the big screen again, and I was still quite moved. In the entire "Time Changes and World Changes" series, "Inaudible Voice" is the only one produced locally, and it is also the longest and most emotional one. Personally, I think it is a bit of a misstep to arrange this short film in the third order, because when the audience's mood reaches the top, the level of investment in the latter film will be greatly reduced.
The male protagonist's ears are damaged, and any kind of sound becomes sharp and harsh in his ears, but the bigger problem he faces is that the sound is not heard. The climax of the short film is all about the roar of the hero, Zhou Hanning, who is the son of a black policeman, the so-called "paparazzi", facing the accusations of every Hong Konger in front of the screen. In the end, you will find that that "roar" is not a real "voice". Those accusations were just written on paper, and they were not spoken or heard.
Zhou Hanning, who just graduated from the Academy of Performing Arts, contributed a good performance. The sentence he shouted "I hate being a Hong Kong" is really heart-wrenching. Because of some details, Zhou Hanning acted several times in that scene, but he maintained his explosive power from beginning to end, and tears came when he said it. When filming the scene, it can be seen that he is quite devoted to the role. Although Fresh Wave does not have an actor award, Zhou Hanning is a young actor worthy of attention.
And when I rewatched this short film on the big screen this time, what I felt most was that it was actually the dying words of the male lead: "You can't let people go to you again." Zhou Hanning then showed the only smile in the whole play, and then it was A shot went off.
Because of that sentence, "You can't help me again", I decided to send a short message to "insult" Director Lin: "I can't help but think of "Youth as a Younger"."
Although Lin Zeqiu invited me to watch the play in the name of repaying my help, but later I was surprised that I was still too naive, and this was simply an act of "buying the box office". In the big dye vat of Chinese movies, this arrogant young director really went bad quickly.
