Having this daughter-in-law is better than having a son, let’s talk about “Naomi” (Part 2)
Let’s finish talking about the story of Naomi and Ruth today~
Naomi and Ruth, the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law, settled down in Bethlehem. Although they had a place to live, what food would they need to live on? Ruth knew that there was a requirement in Jehovah’s law given to the Israelites to treat the poor with kindness. The poor could follow the harvesters at harvest time and glean the grain they left behind, as well as those that grew along the edges of the fields or in the corners of the fields. So Ruth knew that there was such a law, but she did not act on her own when she reached the edge of the field. Ruth first asked the young man supervising the harvest: Can you glean the fallen ears of wheat? After getting permission, she started picking up, and Ruth supported herself and her mother-in-law in this way.
But Ruth didn’t know that she was noticed by Boaz, the owner of the field. Boaz was a God-fearing man. Whenever he met people, he would greet them and say, “The Lord be with you.” Those casual workers and foreign workers will not ignore it, and the workers will respond to him with the same words. Boaz was also Ruth's deceased father-in-law; a wealthy relative of Naomi's husband.
This elder who loved Jehovah saw Ruth’s polite behavior and learned how she took care of her mother-in-law. He began to pay attention to Ruth. Boaz cared for Ruth as if he were his own younger generation.
Boaz asked the young men harvesting his wheat fields to leave more ears of wheat for Ruth.
Ruth found that there were more ears of wheat left, so she asked the person who was looking after the wheat field. After the person told her, Ruth asked Boaz why he cared about her so much. Boaz said it was because of what Ruth had done for her mother-in-law Naomi. Boaz knew that Ruth had converted to the Lord, and he said to Ruth, "May the Lord reward you according to what you have done. May he give you a full reward when you come to the Lord, the God of Israel, and stay under his wings." ."*
Ruth thanked Boaz for his comfort and encouragement and continued working until sunset.
Boaz began to develop a friendship with Ruth, a virtuous woman.
Naomi always chatted with Ruth after she returned to her residence, talking about what happened today. Naturally, Naomi also learned about her daughter-in-law Ruth; she met Boaz, a wealthy relative of her deceased husband. .
Naomi immediately decided that Boaz was a suitable candidate for Ruth’s remarriage!
Yes! Naomi did not want Ruth to live alone. She wanted her former daughter-in-law to be happy. She truly regarded Ruth as her own daughter.
So Naomi helped Ruth dress up and let her sneak into Boaz’s dormitory in the middle of the night. Our actions were so straightforward! Just tell me whether you like it or not and whether you want to marry me or not!
Boaz was shocked to see Ruth come to the bedroom. After listening to Ruth's explanation of the situation, he was touched by Naomi's love for his daughter-in-law and Ruth's trust in her mother-in-law. On the other hand, he also liked Ruth. St. decided to marry Ruth.
According to the law at that time, the responsibility for taking over and caring for the survivor rested with the nearest relative, and Boaz was not the closest relative, so Boaz first invited that relative; and with the local elders, under the witness of both parties, Boaz Ass solemnly obtained the right to marry Ruth.
Finally, under God's will and after all reasonable formalities, Boaz married Ruth.
Ruth was happy for the rest of her life, and Naomi was taken care of. Wouldn't having this daughter-in-law be better than having seven sons?
After Ruth got married and gave birth to a son, Obed, Ruth and Boaz asked Naomi to hold the child in her arms.
At this time, the neighbors and relatives came to bless her: Praise be to the Lord! The Lord has not abandoned you, so it doesn’t matter that you have no close relatives. Today you still have grandchildren. Let this child be famous in Israel. He will lift up your spirit and support you in your old age, because he was born of a woman from that land who loved you. It is better to have this woman than to have seven sons!
Naomi took the child in her arms and became his foster mother. Are they related by blood? Probably not. Do they have a loving relationship? Yes, because they are all in the loving embrace of God.
Obed was the father of Jesse, and Jesse was the father of David.
Naomi's hardships came to an end. Naomi's name is "my joy". She lived up to the blessing of her name. She indeed found joy in God's love and in her kindness to and love for her daughter-in-law.
Ruth's name is "Beloved", and she was also loved. Ruth was loved by her mother-in-law, loved by her husband, and naturally, she was also loved by God.
This mother-in-law and daughter-in-law used their love and love for God to create a story in the Bible, which also moved me deeply.
