Vol.1 A Perspective of Understanding Women's Issues - Power Structure

Foreword:
This is a podcast program jointly launched by me and the founder of "Lonely Reader" Ge Xu. Ge Xu is a friend I admire very much. He has a background in the history department of Peking University. He opened a small teahouse in Mexico by himself, so he masters Chinese, Spanish and English, and understands import and export trade, market development and resource mining in third world countries. He once wrote an article - "The Great Ideal of a Generation of Madmen", which describes his rich life experience and professional career. You will see how he went from a businessman to a teacher who spreads liberal arts. .
Learn it, interrogate it, ponder it carefully, discern it clearly, and practice it earnestly. His educational career is what education should be like in my heart, and I hope to spread the humanistic fire in this increasingly chaotic land and enlighten people's minds.
"Effective Failure" is a reflective podcast looking at the macroscopic human civilization and microscopic living beings. You are welcome to listen and subscribe.

Miso:

The history of human civilization is a giant tower of effectiveness and failure, and the history of human barbarism is a regional abyss of invalidity and failure.

Dear listeners, hello everyone, welcome to listen to Effective Failure, which is a reflection on the macroscopic human civilization and the microscopic buildings. Fan Messo and Captain, be your doorman to the Archives of Effective Failure.

In the first podcast, we asked Captain Ge Xu to explain why the podcast was named "Effective Failure"?

Ge Xu:

Of course it's the title party. Generally, when we go to occupy the minds of our audience, we say that everyone sees something, and it will definitely resonate in your heart. Effective failure can actually trigger this point.

Because many of us more or less see our entire life as a collection of failures. When we create a failure, it depends on whether your previous failure is valid or not.

If your previous failure experience is invalid, you will continue to create the same failure over and over again. If it is valid, we will have the opportunity to continue to create more eras. Misuo said that the English name is Successful failure. I think it is more like a History of losing .

Miso:

I was very surprised when I heard that the captain took this name. Sometimes the name determines how you feel about a podcast. Does a podcast that sounds like a failure make people think, "After I listen to this, my life is going to be a failure."

I remember that it was called "How to Fail" before the change, and then we changed it to "Effective Failure", and I felt that the mood was instantly lifted.

Most people are thinking about how I can succeed, especially in the current market, people worry about how I can achieve my own goals and climb to the top of my life. But the fact that few people talk about failure, or that everyone avoids failure, doesn't sound very good.

Ge Xu:

See Look on the bright side. Our focus should be on the word "effective", not the word "failure". It works in the end for anything, actually. You can say effective success, but I think this sentence is nonsense, because success is the effect itself.

Miso:

We recommend that you take a look at the introduction to our podcast. Next, we'll talk about why we're considering blogging like this, and what this podcast can bring you.

Ge Xu:

We can't talk about help, we try to share some thoughts, and then finally reach a goal of saving our audience's total time. We're almost 60 years old together, sorry, I'm mostly in the lead, we're just sharing all the macro level, micro level, historically we've read and experienced this kind of effective failure.

If we didn't elevate it to this philosophical level, we'd be better off treating this podcast as a storytelling blog.

Miso:

Because I think failure is the norm and success is accidental. In such a normal state, it is precisely that we need to think more about failure, the reasons for failure, and how we can deal with failure after failure? Captain, do you think you have failed?

Ge Xu:

Adjectives are no longer enough to describe myself, I am the noun of "failure" itself.

Miso:

I'm curious that in the eyes of many people, you should be considered a relatively successful existence, but why do you define yourself as a failure?

Ge Xu:

Many years ago, I once heard an explanation about biology from the grapevine: the 23rd chromosome of male organisms, Y, is actually an incomplete expression. Y , so our half of the species is actually a defective product.

In this sense, biology has already told me that we are born incomplete, we are born with original sin, and we are born to make up for this original sin. From a biological point of view, we have positioned ourselves as a kind of failure, which I think is a very good The starting point is that if you position yourself successfully, there is no room for improvement.

If the positioning is a failure, we do not start from 0, but from a negative starting point, so from all angles, whether biologically or historically, we define ourselves from all angles, at least myself. For still not good enough or not good enough.

I don't have such high expectations for myself, but I work harder because I don't know. I feel more like a journey of self-redemption. I want to translate a phrase that says "bravely climb the peak of human wisdom" into a "I am making up for the original sin that I was born with", which makes me feel a kind of piety .

Miso:

Are you not afraid that this sentence will offend the majority of male compatriots?

Ge Xu:

Compared to fighting for my female compatriots, I am seeking wealth at risk. If I am offended, what are the consequences? If the consequences are serious, then this is a textbook-level effective failure, hahaha.

Miso:

This is the first time I've ever heard of this theory. I have always felt that being a male is a social group with a gender advantage. No matter what we see or hear in society now, such as leaders and political figures in the workplace, they seem to be dominated by male groups.

So I also think saying that if I'm male, it might bring me a lot of convenience, and even some so-called social privilege, when I hear you say biological failure, my whole being shocked.

As a woman, I may be more empathetic. For example, when I graduated from college in my early 20s, when I was looking for a job, a male leader asked me, are you married? do you have a boyfriend? If you have a boyfriend, when are you going to have kids?

I heard this question and it was incredible, I was thinking this is my personal question, why are you asking these questions? I just came back from Canada recently. My friend told me that in the Canadian workplace, you must never ask any questions related to your personal life. Once you ask, you can sue this employer, and this employer is will be severely punished.

I asked him at the time, if I can't ask, what if the girl you recruited got married and became pregnant a month later? Who will bear this loss? My friend told me that the Canadian government would take part of the loss.

Ge Xu:

There is a lot of discussion behind this. This kind of escalation that I saw on the Chinese Internet has turned into a subsequent scolding war more than once or twice. Our podcast started to detonate such a fierce topic when it was launched, and we still give the audience a good-willed defense.

Definitely not for the heat, I think the issue of gender is often a very good point of discussion for how we understand the world. For example, the first reaction to our attitude towards gender just now reflects the importance of the gender issue itself.

For example, Miso asked me just now if there would be a dispute? Your first reaction is to do this meticulous care for the insignificant face of the majority of male compatriots, you know? It is reflected unconsciously. I am deconstructing you now.

And my first instinct even wanted to create this conflict in some way. Because many of them include personal growth paths, in fact, many of the truths are pointed at each other's noses, thinking clearly when scolding, and when the mouth is very hard, the heart has actually begun to shake. Some views are starting to falter.

As a male, I don't have much say on this topic, but I can contribute my own perspective. You said just now that the company is in Canada. If there is such a thing as asking whether to get married and have children, is it possible to be severely punished? Listen to you, the company will be severely punished by law, right?

Really severe punishment actually refers to a consensus formed in a developed society, which itself will punish the enterprise.

For example, we are in a society that respects women, assuming that there is a society in which everyone is respected, then the group of women who bear the responsibility for childbirth should receive additional respect. If the company fires a woman because of childbirth, maternity leave, etc., or simply does not hire a female employee for this reason, then the company's reputation and brand image will be greatly affected in this highly-consensus society. blow. This business cannot be done.

So its opportunity cost tells you that you shouldn't do this in this case, even if the boss himself is a very selfish person and only considers his own economic benefits, assuming he is smart enough, he will not It should be done.

But what is the problem we are facing in Chinese society now? A person who fires a female employee simply for the reason of female fertility, or does not hire a female employee, can actually be split at the level of social consensus. Half or most of the people think that there is no problem, and they can't find fault. But the other half thought it was a problem.

I think if this kind of social consensus has not been reached, whether we talk about gender equality, or to correct the oppression of women in history to a certain extent, there is still a long way to go. We have brought this topic too heavy.

The problem of women is not just a simple problem of women, but there are actually many problems. I tend to look at everything from one perspective, the "power perspective".

Power refers to the power of power, which is Power. I don't tend to test it from the level of Right. Because Right is a higher-order concept, it relies on our understanding of many basic concepts. Next, we will use it to analyze a lot of things, and the topic will be opened.

I used to think that I had rights. For example, a certain person is a very powerful person, or a certain person is an official, or a certain person seems to have strong muscles. This is called having power.

But I actually realized later that power has to happen between two or more people for the relationship of one person to another to exist. If you stand alone on a high hill and start yelling that I'm the most powerful man in the world, it's not valid, it doesn't make any sense.

When does power arise? Including the power of men over women and the power of one class over another, or the power of fathers and mothers over children, it satisfies such a condition—

When one party cannot bear the consequences of not doing what the other party requires, TA is formed into a rights relationship by the other party.

Let me give an example. For example, when I posted something online, Fan Misuo told me now that you should delete it quickly. If you don't delete it, I will explode you on the Internet. I have 10,000 fans, and we will add it to Let's bully you together. It just so happens that I am a person with a very thin face, and I am especially afraid of people's Internet violence, and I can't sleep at night.

If I can't defy a consequence of Fan Miso's order not to delete this thing, then Fan Miso has formed a power relationship with me on this issue.

We can bring this matter into many scenes, and use a thing that everyone is more sensitive to. It has always been a popular word called PUA, Pick up artist.

In the Chinese context, Pick up artist has changed, it actually refers to a kind of conscious manipulation of women by men. In essence, we can take the concept of power to take this kind of manipulation.

In an intimate relationship, how can the seemingly dominant partner conform to the manipulation of the other? In fact, it is to establish a power relationship.

For example, if you don't do this, I won't love you anymore, and the other party will be more and more worried about gains and losses in this relationship. I'm afraid that if I can't do one thing well, he won't love me. The consequence is that I don't way to bear. The so-called PUA master is actually constantly implying that if he loves you or not, your sky will fall.

The common means in PUA is that you are not good-looking, but I still love you; you are so stupid, but I still don’t leave; you say nothing is wrong, but I still guard your side, this is what we see Those unbelievable words in love.

what does this mean? In fact, let me tell you, if you say, I can bear the consequences of you not loving me, then the other party will suggest to you that you cannot bear it, because you are not good-looking, your brain is stupid, and you are indecisive, he will give you After citing so many shortcomings, in the end, this girl really turned into saying, under this long-term brainwashing and this psychological suggestion, I can't bear the consequences of breaking up.

Once she can't bear such a consequence, this power relationship is formed.

When we zoom in, we always think that power is a political concept, that is, it only occurs in executive power, legislative power, and judicial power, but that is called "political power" Political Power. What we often overlook is Social Power.

If anyone says that men and women have long been equal, they have been equal since 1949, that is political and legal equality. Yes, of course there is equality in terms of political power.

This is like saying, I don't have vascular disease because my aorta is not diseased, but social power is like capillaries. If all your capillaries are broken, why do you say you don't have vascular disease?

At the social level, if it is political power, we can at least pass legislation to restrain this power, or at least when the power is doing evil, if you think about it, you can clearly notice it.

But if at the social level, this ubiquitous and pervasive micro-power structure arises, we are not aware of it. If you don’t take the initiative to think about it, take the initiative to deconstruct it, and then synthesize it, go to various places to understand the capillaries in other places, and if your peripheral circulatory system is not particularly good, you will take cold hands and feet as a normal state, You will feel this is normal.

Until you see another person whose peripheral circulation is very good, you will not know what is creative in this situation. Sometimes in the social power structure, we are particularly easy to ignore a point. This is also a point that many men will always give you a grand narrative on this issue. For example, from a legal sense, from a rational height, they are condescending. .

Just now, I explained a lot of things in a long and long way. In fact, I really don’t want to talk about this matter in a special way of reasoning, but there is no way. When I talk about the power structure, it will involve reasoning.

Including I think I have begun to conduct daily self-examination, the reason is that at least I feel that I have been an unconscious product of this male-dominated society for more than 30 years, and I can only conduct a thorough examination of myself, and then one by one. To rule out, you know what the unconscious is.

The unconscious product is that when I'm doing anything, I don't know where this happens all of a sudden. For example, when we were chatting, it was obvious that I talked a lot. , I will conduct self-censorship while talking, and then I will gradually go to an abyss of a mansplanning, this feeling is actually very bad.

Because on the one hand I speak very coolly, on the other hand, mansplanning is explaining a thing to the opposite side in a male way. Look at Misuo, you're still laughing, you're just playing tricks for a tiger, you know? ! I can't stop, sorry, I'm mansplaning myself by mansplanning OMG! !

Miso: Hahahaha, I was PUA.

Ge Xu:

I'm sorry, I'm trying to explain PUA to PUA you , you see, it's stuck in an endless loop of human beings.

Miso: No, I really burst into tears...

Ge Xu:

This is a valid failure. I'm trying to explain something to you successfully, and the result is... Leads to completely disaster.

Miso:

I understand one thing now, I read the paragraph you wrote at the beginning, called Reflection Podcast, we start to reflect as we talk.

Ge Xu:

It's more like starting to reflect first. After reflecting and reflecting, I said it, and when I said it, I began to regret it. Every time I said a word, I regretted it even more. Why did I say that sentence. So we still have to respect what Wittgenstein said, nothing can be said, we must remain silent.

Miso:

Just now you mentioned political rights and social rights, which may be confused by everyone. Do you think this is a structural issue? It is obviously that we say that you will have such a type of reaction when you are unconscious, but if you look at another environment, such as the social environment in Canada I just mentioned, it seems that everyone follows another set of rules and systems.

So, as a person who grew up in this system in China, you even think how can they be like this? In such a state of social collective unconsciousness, how do you think we can get out of this predicament? Becoming extra conscious like you just said? You are a vested interest after all.

Ge Xu:

I feel like I'm really a victim, and I'd really like to hear how you did it. From the simplest point of view, each of us has been immersed in capitalist society for a long time, and we often reflect on ourselves and say that human conscience is almost being wiped out by matter, then I will think, I assume that I am A money-making tool without any human conscience, will I still be a woman, at least I will have my voice? Will I still do it? The answer is, I think so.

The reason is, if I were a highly selfish business owner and super rational, I would feel that it would liberate half of the productivity or give half of the human race a decent respect. This is one thing you understand even if you are a local boss and a nouveau riche. A truth - win-win is always a manifestation of advanced civilization.

It is impossible for half of the human beings to obtain the productivity bursting out of liberation, whether spiritually or practically, that it will not have a good impact on my business, right? He will get better.

I would look at a person like this, if a person claims to be rational, and then he finally draws the opposite conclusion, I would think that the person's intelligence may not be enough, his brain power is not enough to come up with such a In conclusion, because he is using a very one-sided rationality to analyze the matter of his one-third of an acre of land.

But this is like we are talking about structural issues. What is a structural problem?

It is that many people are unconscious, and the unconscious itself is a structural meaning. When I go back to the reality that I still have a little conscience, I will do more self-reflection. Whether I think about myself out of completely selfishness, or because of human nature and intuition, to think about the people I care about, or even if you put it a little higher and say that I think about all mankind, then let’s think about it. They should all face this problem.

How did you jump out in the first place, or is it that you still haven't jumped out of the sky-net, that kind of sexism?

Miso:

From when I was very young, I would find that the social power you just mentioned was accompanied by the whole environment of my upbringing, including the power you said of parents over children, and the power of fathers over mothers I have suffered. So when I was young, my character was more rebellious, especially my father's side, his power and deterrence were very strong.

For example, he will start directly because you are not good in the exam. My dad sticks to the concept-a dutiful son with a stick, and I have to beat you, so that you will obey me, obey me, and do what I tell you to do. I grew up in this family environment.

His power let me know that if I fail the exam, I will be beaten, and the price is actually terrible. As far as kids are concerned, trauma is 10,000 tons, you know? So every time I know that I can't fail the exam, and how I am, I have to study hard to avoid being beaten.

Besides, my father and mother, my mother's education is lower than my father's, he will often diss my mother in front of me. For example , "Women have long hair and short knowledge" , and he would tell me this, saying that you are the same as your mother, which is very insulting.

But you and I were thinking, I am a girl, and he told me this, if I were a boy, and I grew up in such an environment where my father disrespected my mother, what would my thinking be like? ? If I am unconscious, then I will feel that my father's behavior or his words are actually justified.

A woman, she just doesn't have much ability anyway, it's ok to be a husband and a child, and you can just cook the food at home. The influence of this ideology is actually very easy to shape a child's idea from a young age.

Ge Xu:

The first time I heard that when you said that hair is long and short-sighted, I realized I had a different reaction. The reason is very coincidental. When I was a child, I liked to draw, and I especially liked to draw historical figures, Zhuge Liang and so on.

I usually draw them with loose hair, so in my perception, men have long hair, and men will shave the front of your hair after entering the Qing Dynasty, and then leave a braid at the back. Men have always had long hair. If you push the Chinese civilization forward, even if Xia, Shang and Zhou have verified that it is correct, even if it is pushed back to 5,000 years of civilization history, most of the time men have long hair.

So under that presupposition, when I first heard that women have long hair and short knowledge, I thought it was a little weird, no, men have always had long hair, didn't they just cut it short recently? So if men have long hair and short knowledge, how do you explain it, right? The admirable Zhuge Wuhou, there are so many heroes and talents, this is my first reaction.

If you restructure yourself, it becomes your experience. For example, a child, on the one hand, is from the people around him, and the stereotyped male is short-haired, and he is a flat-headed brother Mao Cun. But you may have another experience, such as reading a history book or watching a TV series, then you see another image of a man. Which experience you see has the greatest impact on a person and shapes the person's personality subconscious.

So the conclusion is, everyone hurry up and buy a plane ticket now and see where else in the world, you don't know, you hurry up and see it, right? After reading it, many of the problems at the level of sneaking may be solved.

Miso:

Strongly Agree. You just mentioned going out and seeing the world, you know when I was in Latin America. Met a couple who are German. Then the couple was also very interesting. The women were very aggressive. You thought they were big sisters. The way they got along at that time shocked me.

Normally, when I am a couple, men will take on more roles of independence or protection of women, especially when you travel to Latin America or something. But what's interesting is that the guy told me that his girlfriend is now traveling alone in Cusco, because he was in Lima at the time, I was shocked, and I asked, why did the two of you travel separately?

In my thinking, at least in the Chinese environment, I have never met a couple or a couple by my side. Traveling abroad is a separate act, and it has always been two people who are definitely sticking together. Then I asked him, why are you doing this?

The boy was very calm, he said, you have to know that sometimes you are together for a long time, but it is too familiar. My girlfriend and I have been together for two or three years. We want to be together, we can be together at any time. . But when we go out, I think we need to have separate space from each other.

I really came up with an idea unconsciously. I asked him, "Aren't you afraid that your girlfriend will be in danger?" That is, you subconsciously think that a girl will go to a strange city alone, without the company of a male compatriot, you will not worry about your girl Friends in case of any danger or encounter any problems?

He is more calm. He said that my girlfriend speaks Spanish very well. She is a Spanish teacher. He knows what he should do and how to protect himself. So I don't think it's a big problem.

I subconsciously wonder if they really love each other? How can you have such a big heart? I found that all kinds of traditional concepts came out of me. But for them, they feel that it is better to travel separately, or to give each other independent space. It does not mean that we do not love each other. On the contrary, it is because we love each other, so we give each other such a space and respect each other.

So I particularly agree with a point, how to change consciousness? You really have to go out and see people from a different culture than you, how they live and think.

Ge Xu:

No matter what our legal system or anything else, it all originated from Germany, and it was transferred to Japan to China. In fact, from the principle of laws and regulations, the division of these political powers is no different from Germany. But you see that the social capillary level is different, their thinking is different.

I even made up a picture just now that the boy was still a little unhappy in his heart, saying why are you worried that I can't protect her? Obviously she can't protect others!

I think he still looks aggrieved inside, saying why don't you blame my girlfriend with me? I'm so scared to leave myself in Lima by myself~ Hahaha.

I am vaguely worried about him now. As a woman, why can't you protect us? You see, if a society develops to this level, why do you think you should leave your boyfriend in Lima and ignore him? This should be called normal, right?

Because judging who should protect who depends entirely on whether you can speak Spanish, not whether you are male or female. In Peru, whoever speaks Spanish is the protector.

Miso: It's an interesting point of view.

Ge Xu:

We use human rationality to think normally. It is your most powerful and powerful skill in a foreign country. It is the local language, not your gender.

Miso:

We actually mentioned a word, including the fact that Gu Ying now has a global citizenship class. I think this word is very interesting, let's talk about what is "global citizen" .

I don't know your attitude, but I can share my own understanding of this word first, because I know that many people don't know what a global citizen is. I only came into contact with this term after graduating from university, because I liked to browse some foreign blogs at the time. I saw their creators who are independent websites, and many of them would tag themselves as global citizens. Label.

I thought it was very strange at the time, what the hell is this world citizen referring to? Gradually, I realized how important the concept of global citizenship is. I've been through a period of time where I really wanted to be a citizen of the world, but at the same time, I was terrified.

On Chinese social media, I never tag the words "world citizen", and it doesn't matter on Twitter. What I admire about you is that you dare to pull out the world citizenship and write it as a world citizenship class. Are you dying?

Ge Xu:

Not only do I want my life, I don’t want any money. If these four words are released, the income will be cut in half, you know…

Miso:

I don't know how many people are prejudiced against this word. Because in my eyes it actually has some political sensitivity in it. It seems that your ass is crooked? Or how? Now the entire public opinion environment is very sensitive. It is so sensitive that you have to say that you are a Chinese citizen. Anyone who wants to say that you are a citizen of the world can easily be questioned.

Ge Xu:

Not only are Chinese citizens, Chinese citizens are already very sensitive, you should say that you are Chinese people.

There is a difference between the people and the citizens, because the people are an abstract concept and the citizens are a concrete concept. When you speak of the Chinese people, each of us is a part of a complete people. When you speak of Chinese citizens, we are a collection of complete citizens.

If you talk about the concept of citizenship, you are actually a complete person, that is, your hidden assumption is that you are a complete person, but if you say you are part of the people, your hidden assumption is that you are not one Completely independent person.

Only all these parts together make one people, one people is like this.

I don’t think it’s convenient to say the specific reasons behind it. You can search for yourself why such a concept has arisen, because the biggest public opinion challenge in this area is that what you said just now is crooked, and you walk 50% of the time. Ten thousand.

When we use a word, we can see universal value. Universal value has been completely stigmatized in the Chinese Internet context. In fact, it will be regarded as some kind of ideological infiltration and so on. something.

But if you look at the content of universal values, such as respect for the integrity of personality, a kind of openness, etc., what it describes can be seen in the Analects, which is universal value. Universal values are values that humans collectively believe are good values.

It has been tested in the tempering of thousands of years of history, and it has been verified that it is not only in line with human intuition and conscience, but also in line with the value of actual good, it is called universal value. It just so happens that sages from all over the world, wise people have discovered this.

But if you say this thing is imported from the West, then I don't know if Qi and Lu are in the West. When Confucius said it, I don't know if it was passed down from Sparta or Athens? I don't think this confusion is really interesting.

Many times people will unconsciously be placed in a slogan, such as universal values are not good, that is, many people have such an intuition, but this is not the innate intuition of human beings, universal value is not Good, or universal values are Western, the West is bad, you have ulterior motives, and so on.

Including now I am doing self-reflection every moment. Self-reflection is where you constantly force yourself to reflect on every hidden assumption—why is it bad? After thinking about it for a long time, I found out which part of it is not good.

The next question is, when did these assertions, these hidden assumptions, get planted in my head? I think the problem with the power structure that I shared before is actually the same, it's not just for women, it's the same for cyberbullying as well.

For example, you are more worried about putting this word out, and I am actually quite worried, because Internet violence is always an uncomfortable thing. Everyone knows that if you leave a message on the Chinese Internet, your private message is generally full of These medical terms refer to various digestive, reproductive and urinary systems.

When we go into the industry of cultural communication, we are constantly honing ourselves to face such consequences. For example, what was I afraid of? Whether it is self-media or this cultural communication, or when it is a small public figure.

I'm afraid of two things. The first thing is that I'm afraid of the cyber violence itself. You don't actually do anything. If you just scold me in a private message, my heart will be broken, and I'll be emo'd all day long.

Second, I'm afraid that he will press the report button after the Internet explodes, but I think there are actually two consequences. If you can't afford both consequences, then we shouldn't do this kind of podcast that is liberal and civic.

Because you are on the controlled side of this power structure.

I think as I grow up, these two fears are actually gradually dispelled. First, I got used to it after being abused by the Internet a lot. This is a very helpless result. The other is to start getting in touch with, say, like the spiral of silence, the mass psychology of the rabble, plus an experience.

I once had the opportunity to get to know the person who abused me on the Internet. What does his image look like? After seeing these people, I suddenly found that there is a kind of beautiful human emotion, compassion, pity, sympathy. As Russell said, I am Three patience governing my life

The last one is the unbearable pity for the suffering of mankind, that kind of infinite compassion for the suffering of mankind. I think this is a beautiful quality of mankind.

Seeing their daily life, including the monthly income and the hard work he usually does in the factory, I really feel that he really has no time to reflect. And again is a structural problem, take back the structural problem.

This is not joking and scolding, I think this is true, this emotion is no longer pity, it is really pity, because I don’t need to look down at these things, but I feel uneasy. I may not have been so angry, and since I was born, I didn't think much about working hard for a living, so I put a lot of energy into thinking about bigger problems.

I think I actually have time to sit in this place now, and we are discussing this issue, so seeing him like this, the fear of cyberbullying immediately dissipated. Because you know that there is a group of people who are more out of anger at our online violence, and it is only your place where he can violently say a few words, and he may not realize it himself.

But we are safe from cyber bullying. People are always brave when they are safe.

If he is in such a situation, you ask him to call 112345, or you talk about the mayor's mailbox, or you pull a banner, this is not safe for him.

If I were in this group, as soon as I saw a person who was playing the sign of Humane and Liberal Arts, I knew that he was harmless to humans and animals, so I had this anger, who should I send it to? I can't be angry with the patriotic big V, right?

He doesn't care about who loves the country or not, he just talks about the resentment in my own heart. Who should I vent to? I don't care who he is? I'm probably going to kick the dog when I see that dog, right? Then he saw a Tibetan mastiff, would he dare to kick it? Still afraid to kick? right? formed a power structure.

When we try to expand some of the better values of human beings, we must make such preparations, and we must do this kind of punching bag. As long as you can afford the consequences of this punching bag, I don't think it's a problem.

Immediately after that, he is facing the second floor. What if he presses a report button after the Internet explosion?

My point is to control what you can control. You can't control what you can't control. Why should you care? Just follow this way of thinking, the Stoic way of thinking will do. I do this thing I can avoid. Everyone just presses the report. Once this principle is clearly understood, it will transform the cowardice, fear, anxiety and depression. a great compassion.

When this moment happens, any cyberbullying ceases to be an emotional drain for me, and then it even becomes a fuel. The fuel for this fighting consciousness.

Miso:

I am curious because we have just mentioned the concepts of people's citizenship, including global citizenship. Then you have been doing liberal arts education by yourself for so many years. What kind of progress do you think our civic awareness and general civic awareness are now?

Ge Xu:

I have no way to represent the whole, but only based on my personal experience, that is, the east coast, the north, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen, the new first-tier plus the second-tier, and then I come from a fourth-tier city. I think it is a positive trend. Citizen consciousness is constantly infiltrating. The speed may not be so optimistic, but everything is positive.

The reason is this, the first essential meaning of civic consciousness is more in line with this value in the traditional Chinese sense, that is, we must be independent, which is what we call poverty to be alone, and to be able to help the world. If you don't sweep a room, how can you sweep the world? I think these are the first steps in the development of civic consciousness.

Everyone must first fight for their own rights and obligations. I think this is the first step.

Have you ever noticed that this mainstream media is telling you to "sacrific the ego and take care of the big things", this kind of education has been trying to penetrate for a long time. But it was resisted by the native Chinese culture. You find that many people only talk about sacrificing the ego and taking care of the overall situation. But once it falls on oneself, everyone's first priority is to take care of the individual and sacrifice the overall situation.

As long as there is this foundation of self-reliance and selfishness, if it still exists, then civic consciousness is actually very popular. This is because you must first protect yourself. You are a single entity. That is, if you have established yourself first, it will be easy if you have the foundation of your consciousness.

The next step is how do we connect self-interest with the public interest? These two seemingly irreconcilable contradictions, how can we logically smooth them out? Is it to make both of these things amalgamated?

Because of the apparent conflict between selfish interests and public interests, individual interests and public interests are in conflict. This is human intuition.

When you solve this problem, there are only two ways. One is to tell you that you must choose one of the two. For example, our mainstream values tell you that you must sacrifice your own interests before you can protect the public interests.

The second solution is to restrict a good system through various institutional designs, whether it is an economic system or a social system. It is to take a group of people who have their own ghosts and let them sit together and do one thing.

The same goes for businesses, for example. A good enterprise system does not mean that everyone should treat the enterprise as their own home, and then all the people will work together to do one thing and create a wolf-like culture. That is too crude.

A good corporate system will always bring together those who have their own ill-conceived ideas, those who want to be promoted, those who want a salary increase, those who want to improve themselves, and those who want to simply fish. Intersection plays a good role, which is a good enterprise system.

Our society is the same. A highly developed society will let every selfish person unconsciously pass the advantages of the system, and finally let each of them's self-reliance become a public good.

To give an example, for example, what you look like in the United States and Europe, whether it is out of your own efforts, and then shouting on social media to scold the US president, is the bitter satire of politicians in the media. Many people's motives are the most primitive, and they are all for their own group and their own interests, right?

But this social and political system is actually very simple, that is, if you have something to say, you have to say it, and the target must be directed at the person responsible, who is sitting in that position and who has obtained such great political rights. , you have to bear the corresponding responsibility.

Therefore, this system brings together everyone's private grievances and becomes a deterrent to public rights. In the end, it maximizes everyone's interests and can deter the uncontrollable trend of expanding public power.

Back to the previous question, where do Chinese citizens realize it is?

I feel that the core is still desperately resisting, that is, the Chinese citizens are aware of the consciousness of global citizenship. In fact, the core and most precious thing has not been lost, that is, the self-interested nature of human beings. If this is lost, then we may not be able to handle it very well.

If people have started not thinking about themselves and started to sacrifice themselves for an illusory goal, that scene is really a bit scary. Because of this mentality in history, such as the Nazis, soldiers on both sides of the fanatical religious war, and so on.

What do we see in history when you start letting go of the ego, what happens to these people at the end? Because the greatness of his achievements does not refer to the greatness of the human community he belongs to, but refers to his immediate superior, who is the person with the most power, and that is the greater self. So he sacrificed his ego for someone who couldn't fight him, and might even secretly mock how strong these leeks are. Omg.

If the big self cannot protect the small self, what is the use of the big self? This is a truth that the simplest child can understand. Also, if everyone sacrifices the ego, doesn't it add up to sacrifice the larger ego? So who is the real Self? This is very worth thinking about.

Therefore, I think Chinese society can be fully equipped with such a foundation of civic consciousness, which is engraved in the national character, and this selfishness is engraved in the human nature.

Everyone, if we basically assume that he is selfish, then it will lead to the formation of a nationality - for example, some societies will advocate public welfare and charity, etc., or some help other people. and many more.

You have traveled through so many countries, all these societies with these beautiful qualities, none of them have a society that opposes the interests of the small self to the interests of the big self. The benefit of the ego must be the foundation of helping others, not his enemy.

In history, we have never seen a case where small profits and big profits are opposed to each other, and the phrase "sacrificing the small self and preserving the big self" can appear in practice.

Have you ever noticed that it only appears in theories in human history? Because it is impossible in reality. He is just a sentence that is grammatically correct and completely unreasonable in terms of semantics, but he is a thing that does not exist in human experience.

Miso:

I don't know how the audience might feel when they hear the word "global citizen". But I will know that some friends appreciate these four words. For example, I think this word means that you will embrace diversity, embrace more possibilities, and embrace all rivers. But maybe in the eyes of others, he would reject this type of word very much. Think there's a big problem with your ideology, right?

Ge Xu:

Yes, so branding and speaking should pay attention to art. If it is that kind of marketing genius, it is a citizen of the world. If the meaning behind it is translated so that these people are not disgusted, it is an old river and lake that cares about the world.

The people who care about the world correspond to citizens, and the old rivers and lakes correspond to the world. People are full of longing for the rivers and lakes. He believes that this is such a person who has experienced the vicissitudes of life and has his own story.

So what is Jianghu? Before the borders of modern nation-states were formed, rivers and lakes meant the world. For example, a person from the Shang and Zhou dynasties, if he travels to the 21st century, he will feel very strange, if he realizes the concept of China, he will feel that it is a big retrogression.

why? Because people in the Shang and Zhou dynasties would feel that this is the world, and I would at least not feel that I am some kind of unique existence in the world when I go from one place to another.

You see the feeling that some people in the 21st century will think of themselves as one of many nation-states with something unique and then bury their heads in the sand.

A person from the Shang and Zhou dynasties would not think about this problem. He thinks about the problems of the whole world. If the citizens of the world are replaced by the general public, if they can understand without any psychological obstacles, it is a bit like the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, especially The rangers of the Warring States period, and the Mohist gang, for example.

What they have in common is that I don't care about your origin, what kind of person you are, what you are, I am just a human being. They will have a revolt against authority. He doesn't trust the nonsense of those princes, grandsons, princes and generals. They will have a lot of opinions.

The same is true for Confucius. To travel around the world is actually to go to various places in the world to collect wind and see all kinds of knowledge. Then I found someone to come to the universal value of Confucianism, which we regard as a treasure, as well as a hundred schools of thought, many of which are actually the result of traveling around the world.

If traffic had been smoother at that time, Confucius would have gone to learn Latin, learned Latin, and learned this ancient Hebrew language. When he went to the Middle East, he would have taken a look around.

Citizenship of the world is nothing more than a few points, and the world represents that you are well-informed and experienced. You ask any child, is more experience a good thing? Is it good to see more people? Kids will say yes.

Citizenship means first, you have to take care of your personal affairs, you have to take care of yourself. Second, you have to work hard to reconcile these two types of relationships between people, and how can we collaborate to win in the public interest? This is the essence of civic meaning. There is the ego first, and then there is the big ego. The more energy you have, the better you can take care of yourself and help others.

If you don't object to these points, then why do you object to the words "global citizen"?
