Walking in Tainan
What kind of place is Tainan?
Ye Shitao said: "This is a good place for people to dream, work, fall in love, get married, and live leisurely."
For me, Tainan is a place suitable for walking, falling in love, and chatting~
If I used to live in Tainan, where would be my favorite and most frequent walking place?
I would definitely say Confucius Temple.
I come here often, and when friends from out of town come to Tainan, I will also bring them here. There are many memorial halls and cultural relics museums around the Confucius Temple. If you don’t want to visit, you can still walk around the Confucius Temple and look for squirrels.
For me, starting from Tainan Railway Station, passing through Zhongshan Road, turning into Qiniangma’s Place, then walking through Minsheng Green Garden, then turning onto Nanmen Road, is a route with many stories to tell along the way.
The entire route is more than one kilometer. You can stop and go, look at temples, see Catholic churches, and talk about the styles of those old buildings. This is an easy-to-guide and easy-to-walk route.
By the way, because I have received so many friends who came to Tainan for the first time, I always thought that this is an ability that you will have after living for a long time. It is to be able to point to the Land Bank and explain that those pillars are an improved Japanese architectural style to remind everyone. I looked up and admired the floral decorations above, and then went to the Lin Department Store opposite. It was said that this was the first department store with an elevator. There was a shrine above. I passed various churches along the way and could tell the characteristics of this building. When I arrived at Qiniang My mother talks about the meaning of being sixteen. When I go to the United States, I talk about Ang Lee and handmade drawing boards. When I go to an art museum, I talk about the reason why it looks like this because it used to be the police station during the Japanese occupation. Of course, it will still be the police after the liberation. The hall was turned into an art gallery at the back, and what was on the opposite side is what it is now.
Others are like guessing who is worshiping at the Ma Shi Ye Hall opposite the Martial Arts Temple?
Looking down at the Grand Thean Hou Temple, guess what these stone slabs were used for in the past?
Guess what is the difference between this Yue Lao and other Yue Lao in Guanyin Pavilion?
Guess which country occupied Tainan in Relanjia City?
At the Yanping County Prince's Temple, guess which country Zheng Chenggong is a mixed-race baby from?
Others include appreciating Xiuzhuang, pressing molds for ancient Chinese cakes, which Danzi noodles are authentic, and whether beef soup is really a specialty of Tainan?
I really always thought that this was something that everyone who had lived in a certain city for a long time would naturally know.
And from the Confucius Temple, you can also see a characteristic of me from the past to the present. If I often go to these places, it must be because there are food nearby!
Went to the Chenghuang Temple because there were fried spring rolls nearby.
I went to Wufei Temple because there is bibimbap next to it.
I went to Narcissus Palace because there are vegetable rice dumplings nearby.
Went to the Temple of Heaven because there was mochi next to it.
Then go to the Confucius Temple?
Next to it are the vegetarian restaurant I often go to and the Fuzhong Street that sells food after walking into Pangong Shifang.
Pan, pronounced ㄆㄢˋ, Pan Palace, means ancient school.
This stone square used to be the entrance and exit of the Confucius Temple, so why is there now a south gate road between the stone square and the Confucius Temple?
Ask the Japanese...
The stone square itself has a beautiful shape. We can see carvings such as double dragons, musical instruments, chess, calligraphy and painting on the central lintel, while humans and bats can be vaguely seen on the panels. There is a gourd in the center, and the two ends are closed with a kiss.
In this photo, the lower stone pillars were cropped because the deer was photographed. There are actually eight stone lions in front and behind the stone pillars. Their shapes are round and cute, and they are worth taking a look at.
Let me explain here, in fact, Pan Palace will accompany Panchi, so why is there only Pangong Shifang and no semicircular Panchi? Because of urban planning... To put it simply, because of urban planning, the location of Pangong Shifang has been changed, so Pangong Shifang is no longer visible next to Panchi, but... at least it is still there, so we are not picky.
Walking in from Shifang, you will find Fuzhong Street, which sells all kinds of souvenirs and snacks. If you don’t find anything you want to eat after walking all the way, just eat a black wheel at the Taiwanese Black Wheel in front of Kaishan Road~
Taiwan Black Wheel is an interesting shop. Basically I call it the Two Yuan Black Wheel. Some people like the taste and some people like it. It’s mainly interesting and it’s been open for a long time. Short bamboo skewers cost 2 yuan each and long bamboo skewers cost 2 yuan each. Five yuan, don't say it's very cheap, because a bunch of a little bit 0.0 is a bit expensive to eat here. It's better to eat a little, take a rest and have fun.
Anyway, there are drinks, ice cream shops and snacks along the way. There are also many specialty shops located in the alleys. You can spend two hours in this short Fuzhong Street alone!
So what if you want to find a shop to drink coffee and be young?
Xiaolu would take his friends to Zhaimen Coffee on the second floor opposite the Confucius Temple and next to Xiaolu’s favorite vegetarian restaurant.
It's really narrow... It's only 38 centimeters wide. It's a facade that you can't walk in without turning sideways. After you walk in, you have to go up to the second floor. This is an old house built in the Taisho era, although Xiaolu himself doesn't drink coffee. , but the atmosphere of the old house is still worth bringing friends there. You can spend a pleasant time chatting, resting or holding a book bought from the second-hand bookstore next to it.
There used to be a second-hand bookstore next to it, called Sosai. When it was still a second-hand bookstore, in addition to buying books, you can also appreciate many of the owner's interests in space design, such as the old bathtub that appeared on the patio~
There was a time when the basement was open, and you could admire paintings and have a brief kiss (ㄟ? It seemed like something strange was mixed in).
Later, Sosai closed down... It’s hard for second-hand bookstores to survive... So why does it seem like it’s still open now?
Because it has transformed into a Koji Book Inn, its biggest feature is...it fulfills every bookworm's dream, sleeping among the stacks of books!
You don’t have to worry about running out of books to read when you go out, you can grab a book right away from your bed!
As a bookworm, I have never lived here once in my life, and I don’t know what it will look like when my dream comes true!
Finally, going back to the beginning, if someone asks me, what kind of city is Tainan?
I would say this is a great place for walks, casual encounters, love and life.
In life, romance is always with you.
If I send an invitation asking if I'm coming, I'll seal it with a kiss.
Like my work? Don't forget to support and clap, let me know that you are with me on the road of creation. Keep this enthusiasm together!
