I'm on TV

The leader received a private message from a reporter on Instagram one day saying that he wanted to make a documentary about the island, which would be broadcast on the national channel.

The island began to gain public attention earlier this year because many sea turtles were killed. The turtles get stuck in the nets set by the fishermen and cannot move, and sometimes they just suffocate and die (the turtles need to float to the surface to breathe, about once every half an hour). Some fishermen injure the turtles to make sure their livelihoods are intact when they find them stuck in their nets. They would slit the turtles' necks and staged live turtle killings. In the end, the turtle's carcass would float on the surface, and then wash up ashore to be discovered and reported.

There is another, more brutal way of dying - cutting open the mother turtle's body just to get the eggs inside her. When I first heard the news, I felt so sad. It’s okay to steal/buy/sell turtle eggs illegally. Why hurt the turtle mother who spent 30 years growing up? You must know that out of 1,000 baby turtles, only one can successfully grow up. This murder reminds me of the story of the goose that lays golden eggs. The goose is too innocent and the man is too stupid.

We were so excited to find out that we were about to be on TV. The island is small, but no matter the size of the place, we must maintain the ecology.

A total of three film crews came to the island for three days. It took about half a month from filming to broadcasting.

I am so excited to have the opportunity to participate in the recording of the documentary. I'm not excited because I'm on TV, but because I feel the opportunity is too rare. The reporter who came via private message at first said that he also ate turtle eggs when he was a child, and he would pay attention to the fact that the island was also stripped alive because of the turtles. He thought this was a good opportunity to teach the public about environmental protection.

The photographer said that the camera weighed 30kg, and we all went "wow". The photographer doesn't have to go to the gym anymore. Taking pictures with a camera is already a kind of exercise.

The direction of the story at the time of shooting is always uncertain, it should be decided according to what was photographed, so the photographer took a lot of things. For example, in the shooting of picking up garbage, he would shoot three times from different angles, and we repeated the same action three times.

Pick up the trash ➡️ Throw it in the trash bag ➡️ Take the trash you just picked up from the trash bag ➡️ Throw it out ➡️ Pick up

It's probably like this, repeating it a few times, it's a bit tiring. I usually watch TV shows to pick bugs, but I don't know that there are so many things to do behind the scenes, and it is inevitable that there will be negligence.

We all need to be interviewed.

I knew there was no escape, because I was so afraid that I would not speak fluently.

Later I thought, I have to say whether I am fluent or not, so what should I worry about? Nervousness actually reduces my performance. It's not very good in the first place, do you want to let anxiety downgrade yourself? No way. I just reassured myself that it was time for my interview.

Before the interview, I still guiltily told my sister who pressed the microphone for me, that neither Malay nor English is my native language, and I might utter some imperfect sentences. My sister said readily, "It's fine, don't worry. I think it's the same, people who make documentaries have seen all kinds of people, certainly not everyone can express themselves fluently, and they certainly won't dislike me.

The interview process went smoothly. Since I was the last one of the interns to be interviewed (escape mentality), everything I could say was said by the other interns. Instead, the reporter asked me, what do you want to say?

Ha, test me out. Finally, I would like to talk about public awareness. After all, not everyone has environmental awareness. It is necessary to remind the general public from time to time not to disturb other creatures when snorkeling, throw rubbish into the trash can, etc. Basically, it is not Something everyone can do.

When I go for a walk in the afternoon, I see ignorant tourists doing these things:

1. Feed the fish

Tourists wanting to be animal friendly come snorkeling with biscuits, bread, and even fish feed. To be honest I used to feed the fish too, so I can understand them. We can't feed fish in the sea because it makes them dependent on human food to survive. This is very dangerous, because once the tourist season is low, these fish will die because they forget how to hunt. Another point is that fish eating human food will affect their digestion or something. After all, human food is not their original natural food.

2. Play with sea cucumber

Most sea cucumbers stay in shallow places. We can see it from the sea into the sea. Some sea cucumbers stay on the beach after high tide and I throw them back into the sea.

Because sea cucumbers are within easy reach, some tourists disturb them. Tourists will play with sea cucumbers, such as squeezing and throwing them.

Sea cucumbers move slowly, but they are also living beings, they have feelings, and they feel pressured by human beings to play with. Poor sea cucumber. Caring for sea cucumbers starts with you and me.

After half a month, after confirming the broadcast date and time, we made a big publicity, notified our family, friends and classmates, and linked the live broadcast to them. We also got a projector and asked the people on the island to watch it together.

When I watched it, I screamed again and again, hahahaha, because the reporter didn't show us the content of the documentary beforehand. Although I knew that I was being filmed, I didn't know what it was like.

Everyone laughed together, this connection is really rare and warm.

After the broadcast, the fourth uncle called me immediately. He asked me, why you only appeared once, and I saw that your other classmates appeared twice.

I replied that people only make necessary interviews when making documentaries, and I have appeared many times, when the photographer was filming my work.

My dad WhatsApp said proud of me.

Let your relatives and friends say, your parents must be very happy, you are the first person in the family to be on TV.

It is really flattering to receive attention occasionally, but the most important thing is that everyone watch the documentary together, hoping that the content of the documentary can subtly influence everyone's thinking, and everyone can take care of the environment together.
