Meta COO Sheryl Sandberg announces departure from Facebook parent company Meta
Meta's chief operating officer, Sheryl Sandberg, announced her departure from the social media giant on Wednesday after the company's rise in global influence also sparked various scandals.
Sandberg, who has been with Facebook for 14 years since it was an upstart, is one of CEO Mark Zuckerberg's executives.
In a long post on Facebook announcing her resignation, she wrote:
"Sitting by Mark's side for 14 years has been the honor and privilege of a lifetime"
"Mark is a truly visionary and caring leader. He sometimes says we grew up together and we grew up together"
Mark Zuckerberg In his own Facebook post , Zuckerberg credits Sandberg for much of the company's success.
"When Cheryl joined me in 2008, I was only 23 and I knew almost nothing about running a company"
"Cherry built our advertising business, hired great people , shaped our management culture, and taught me how to run a company,"
"She has created opportunities for millions of people around the world, and Meta deserves credit for what she's accomplished today."
Sandberg, who is leaving the company in the fall, comes as Zuckerberg aims to reshape the Meta platform and shift the company's focus to building the Metaverse .
Sandberg said in her post that she plans to focus on her charitable work and her family in the future.
