When you start to feel powerless at work, start with household chores
At work, I believe that many office workers will, like me, experience a sense of powerlessness at some point.
There are many sources of this feeling of powerlessness, which may be external to the company. For example, competitors have begun to play price wars, and their own company cannot play such price competition at all, resulting in a decline in orders and market share. The performance pressure given by the supervisor made him more and more unbearable.
It may also be within the company. My own unit has many good ideas and plans, but other departments may not be able to keep up with the pace at all, resulting in completely unable to execute according to the company's original plan, making me feel frustrated.
It may also be from yourself, thinking that you are working hard to help the company achieve performance or improve processes, and hope that your efforts can bring more positive benefits. But later I found that my thinking was not comprehensive enough, and my practice was not in place, and I began to have the idea of doubting my ability.
Once such emotions begin to appear, the most terrifying thing is that there will be a thought, "I can't do it no matter how hard I try, so let's go with the flow with everyone!"
Competitors are too strong, our company does not want to work hard to reduce costs, then no matter how hard I try, I will not be able to get orders.
Other departments are too wasteful. We are trying very hard to improve the competitiveness of the company, but they just want to be a hindrance, so it is better not to do it.
I'm not capable right now, and no matter how hard I try, I can't come up with a good solution, so just listen to the boss!
Every time I have such uncontrollable anxiety in my life or work, the solution I have figured out in the past few years is: start doing some housework first!
Start tidying up your room, doing laundry, mopping the floor, wiping the table, and even rearranging the room.
There are several benefits of doing housework:
1) Clear your distracting thoughts first: Through simple and repetitive work, you don’t need to spend too much mental thinking, first clear these disturbing negative emotions, and let yourself be zero.
2) A clean and tidy environment makes people feel refreshed: Usually, when you experience these powerless states at work, it means that you must not have much time to deal with your own space, and it has begun to be messy. Put yourself in an orderly environment, so that you don't make yourself chaotic because of the cluttered environment.
3) Believe that I can control my life: I can't control the behavior of my competitors, I can't manage the actions of other departments, I can't improve my current thinking, but I can organize my space. It's only a small step, but with this little bit of mastery, you can pull yourself back a little from total powerlessness and start building the confidence that you can take control of your life.
The most frightening thing is that if you let these emotions continue, you will have less and less control over your life. Let yourself get off work and start chasing dramas, even if you don't particularly want to watch it, but opening Netflix will automatically play one episode after another. He clearly said that he should go to bed earlier so that he can have a good spirit when he goes to work tomorrow. As a result, he swiped his mobile phone until one o'clock in the middle of the night.
These things will convince myself even more: "I can't control my life!"
So whenever you start to have this doubt in your life that you can't control your own life, start doing some housework! Even if it's just a small step, it can bring back the initiative in life!
Like my work? Don't forget to support and clap, let me know that you are with me on the road of creation. Keep this enthusiasm together!
