[Music Monthly #9] June 2022 issue
Elephant Gym | Dreams
To put it bluntly, as long as you are a Taiwanese who has had a little exposure to indie music in recent years, you must know Elephant Gymnastics, right?
Elephant Gymnastics is a math rock band from Kaohsiung. In addition to being the heavyweight performers in Taiwan's major music festivals, they went to Chicago for Audiotree Live, and the entire performance session was specially listed in the Staff Picks. It is very powerful! If you haven't heard it, I highly recommend you check it out, just search for "Elephant Gym Audiotree" and you'll find it.
It can be seen that even if they look at the international scene, their performances are still of a considerable level. They also have a lot of music fans overseas. They are also one of my favorite bands. I have even been featured in one of their Live MVs.
Their new album "Dreams" will be released digitally on May 11, 2022. When they went to Dagang to sing this year, they knew they had released a physical album, but it took several months to release it digitally. It's a pity not to listen to it.
"Porcupine Tree | CLOSURE / CONTINUATION"
Seeing the news of Porcupine Tree's new album release is about as shocking as seeing TOOL's new album, their last album was released in 2009, and I honestly don't think they will do it again after so long. A new album was released, but they came back with ten songs, still something worth savoring.
Porcupine Tree is a British band that was established as early as 1987. The style of music is psychedelic, progressive rock and progressive metal. The first time I heard it, I thought their songs were quite powerful, even if they had been released for decades. It doesn't feel very old, and their songs are still edgy even today.
It must have been nearly ten years since I heard their music. These bands that fascinated me at the time were all my music enlightenment teachers, so I cherished them very much from the bottom of my heart, and occasionally I suddenly think of going back and listening to them and I will feel very nostalgic. , Now that I am fortunate enough to hear the new works again, I can only be moved.
Their new album "CLOSURE / CONTINUATION" will be released digitally on June 24, 2022, which is a big news for me, and I hope I can recommend it here to potential new music fans who have never heard of them.
"iri"
iri is a Japanese singer-songwriter, her composition sounds a little City pop, a little Groove, and has a lot of rap passages. It was recommended to me by YouTube recently. Generally speaking, her music is not my favorite or special. The genre I want to listen to, but I don't know why the song that was recommended at the beginning was only listened to once, but it has been entangled in my mind over and over again (it's strange to describe XD), it's a song with a strong hook .
In short, because of this, I took some time to go back and find this song and her other music works again. I found that the MVs were all shot with personality and texture. Well, the music itself is not my style, but it is still very good. Nice, if you like rap and more Groovy music, you might like it.
"Art Against Agony"
Here's an interesting little story. There is a YouTuber called "Bed Story" that I follow and watch animations occasionally. In the recent movie "Can't sleep because of the noise at night? It turns out that the nighthawks are screaming! Is it loud? What's up!" About one minute and fifty seconds into the video, a great Metal riff appeared, I checked it out with my phone, and I found out what song it was in just a few seconds. Original song!
Later, I went to find more of their music works to have a look. If you don't listen to it, you will be shocked. The process of discovering music is a very special experience. The band I discovered inexplicably recommended to everyone. A riff is a phrase that appears in a film.
Art Against Agony is a German metal band playing purely musical instruments. Almost all of them appear wearing masks in group photos or videos found on the Internet. They occasionally incorporate some electronic and other genre elements into their songs, whether they are in variations. Or do some splitting of beat points will make people feel very interesting, the overall arrangement is quite rich, it is a music work that is worth listening to, but it seems that no one knows them based on their views, on Bandcamp It's a pity that there are very few sponsors.
