Today is an empowerment workshop for CTPS teaching assistants. The theme is how to give feedback and give opinions more effectively.
When serving as a teaching assistant or team leader, the job is not to stand up to the front line and do everything in person; it is to give timely advice to solve problems when team members encounter difficulties, or to "teach" them the skills to solve problems. Not "give answers".
Studies have shown that people learn best in two situations, one is learning by doing, and the other is giving back to others, because in order to make others understand when giving back, you must understand first.
A great feedback model was mentioned in the workshop today, as follows:
STAR rule:
1. Situation (the situation when the problem was encountered)
2. Task (what problem is encountered)
3. Action (what action was done to solve)
4. Result (what is the final result)
Example:
I observed that in your executive meeting yesterday (S), the boss asked everyone what pain points are currently encountered by the product department (T). ), the boss takes your opinion very seriously, great (R)!
STAR's feedback model can clearly describe your motives and practices for giving back to others, and it can make people feel sincere in the specific explanation process.
【How to give further suggestions】
In the process of giving Feedback, it is often encountered that others encounter difficulties but cannot solve it. At this time, the most important thing is to "listen" and "talk".
Most people are often used to talking a lot of opinions, but they don't listen to the other party's explanation. This often causes the other party to be defensive and not listen to your suggestions, although your opinions may really help a lot. .
"What do you think?" and "What do you think can be better?" These questions can invite the other party to create suggestions together, and achieve the effect of empathy and persuasion when giving feedback.
