[Terminal Star Incident] Friend’s memories: I learned the power of action from Chen Mei
I was sorting through emails recently and saw a self-introduction that Daidai once shared in a sharing group established by several of our friends:
My name is Chen Mei (Chen Daidai). When I was studying in college in Guangzhou, I often went to "** Space" to chat and eat, and I met H. Speaking of which, I still miss that place and the people and cats I met.
I graduated in 2016 and have been working in a foundation ever since. As my first official job, the working environment and atmosphere here are very good. Most of the leaders and colleagues are easy to get along with. The colleagues are young, many born in the 80s and 90s.
I pay more attention to Internet things, and I also like to spend time tinkering with some computer technology, software applications, etc. I prefer the collection and sorting of information and materials. I once compiled a list of basic skills for using Windows. I am very concerned about resisting Internet information censorship in various ways.
Suddenly I felt a little sad, and the fragments of my life that I didn't have a lot of contact with Chen Mei appeared one by one in front of my eyes.
The first time I met Chen Mei was in January 2016.
At that time, I had just resigned and moved to a space in Guangzhou. Around 2016, there were still many youth spaces in many cities across the country, most of which were located near universities and were places where young people gathered to discuss. At the beginning, I felt a little like "new here", and I was a little unfamiliar with the surrounding environment and the young people in the space. Chen Mei was a student at South China Agricultural University. He was a senior at the time. He often came to the space to walk around and read books. He liked cats very much. There were two cats in the space and he often came to play with them. In my memory, Chen Mei didn't talk much, loved to laugh, and would smile "silly" at you when he said anything. For me, a person who suddenly broke in, I could feel a sense of humor in his words and deeds. The warmth of “acceptance”.
Sometimes we would walk to the vegetable market to buy groceries together, and share some recent developments on the way. At that time, I knew that he was about to graduate. Although his undergraduate degree was about animal breeding and the content should be about industrial animal breeding, his graduation thesis was about animal rights. At that time, he was also in the process of choosing where to go after graduation. He personally liked to specialize in Internet technology, but he felt that he was not professional enough to engage in this field. Later, I also encountered some minor twists and turns while looking for a job.
After a short period of six months, I left Guangzhou to study in Shanghai. I met Chen Mei several times. Each meeting was in a hurry, but we have always been in touch on the Internet. I will never forget his smile. The most impressive time was when he was so drunk that his whole face was red and he slumped directly on the beer bottle in the barrel.
Chen Mei is a person who is willing to be silent. In situations where many people are discussing, he is willing to be a silent listener. Many times, he will listen carefully. This is not because he has no ideas. On the contrary, he has been working hard to think about some issues and use actions to explore and implement them. He has been pursuing Internet information quality and information security for a long time, and he is willing to share it with friends around him. Once he asks for help for any Internet-related issues, he will enthusiastically provide help. In 2015, Chen Mei helped her classmates reinstall their systems. He felt that many people around him lacked computer skills and could not freely use computers to obtain information. On the contrary, more often, personal security information was maliciously leaked and misappropriated. At that time, the Xcodeghost incident broke out, and even software on the App store could carry malicious code and potentially leak users' private information. He deliberately spent a month compiling a small manual on basic skills for using Windows, including specific operation methods such as security protection, safe deletion, and correct software installation.
In the preface of this manual, he wrote: Personal abilities are limited, and it is inevitable that some mistakes will be made or the explanations will not be clear enough. Please forgive me. This information is shared by all of us, and I hope others can work together to improve it.
This sentence fits my understanding of him very well: he is low-key, unassuming, and very humble. He enjoys sharing knowledge and information and also believes that collaboration among multiple people can make things better. Although I did not discuss it directly with him, after 2016, I gradually learned from various channels that Chen Mei had been doing her best to participate in public welfare, respond to public events, and be wary of existing online media and information. and careful thinking.
He once said privately, "My judgment of myself is a supporting role, at least for now." He works seriously and low-key, and has never been the person who gets the most attention in the spotlight.
In life, Chen Mei is a kind-hearted friend. He will do his best to accept you and respond to you. When I was a graduate student in Shanghai from 2016 to 2019, I was lonely sometimes. I would share some small ideas and future plans with Chen Mei, and I got some positive responses.
In January 2018, I felt that the daily social network was fragmented and temporary, and I was very eager to have a deeper connection between people, so I found a few friends to write emails to exchange and share the current situation, including Chen Mei. Chen Mei's response was very positive. He quickly began to think about the mechanism of email sharing and was very happy to share his thoughts on information acquisition in emails. He discussed a lot about the limitations of information sharing on the WeChat social platform, and observed that the WeChat ecosystem has habitually created a "passive/passive" way of obtaining information, and how WeChat has spoiled our habit of using the Internet and obtaining information. . He is also very willing to learn and attaches great importance to the development of independent learning. He will habitually sort out the knowledge framework, establish a knowledge system, and seriously think about the obstacles he faces.
I feel that I see part of myself in Chen Mei, or in other words, I can absorb some energy for action from him: silently playing a supporting role, thinking seriously, and taking action.
At this point, I suddenly remembered that when I went to Beijing in 2016, he took the subway to pick me up from his rental house in the outer suburbs of Beijing. As soon as we met, he took out three apples from his bag, saying they were for me and another person traveling with him. The girl Ahe’s.
Now he is nowhere to be found.
Our dear partner, we are waiting for your smooth return!
Like my work? Don't forget to support and clap, let me know that you are with me on the road of creation. Keep this enthusiasm together!
