[Reading] "How do you live today, how do you live this life" - James. Warman
"Life is long if you know how to use it well." - Seneca
After a busy day, how do you use your time?
Swipe on Facebook and see if IG has passed like this for two or three hours? I used to be like this!
At the time, I was very lost. Every day was like a drug addiction, and I let the virtual world dominate my life.
When everyone uses the Internet to show off their material life, you think that as long as you are like everyone else, you will be happy.
"Comparing with others" has no end to the day, only enriching the mood is the solution.
The author mentions a great concept: "Experience brings more happiness than material things."
Because the experience is not easy to compare!
You and your coworkers are talking about last week's holiday streak. You said happily. Last week, you went hiking with your significant other and stayed in a three-star hotel. The whole vacation was very comfortable and happy. And your colleague is telling you that he took the whole family to eat in the most advanced five-star restaurant last week, and also watched the beautiful night view on the top floor.
If you can exchange, do you want to be him?
Not necessarily right? Because the time spent with loved ones is so beautiful in memory, money can no longer be used as a measure of the current experience! And since when did we take being busy as a status symbol? Overtime has become a compliment, and overtime hours have become a measure of your success.
"We make more money, so time feels rarer and more expensive," the authors said.
"It would be an understatement to say that happiness is spending time with those you love and those who love you." - Daniel Conneman
are you happy?
Have you really asked yourself this question?
When I was reading this book, I immediately logged out of all social media. Start reading in your spare time and break free from the slavery of your phone. In the early days, you may develop withdrawal symptoms, worrying that without social software, will you be derailed from the world? Will you lose contact with a friend? Believe me! In fact, nothing will change! It is important to raise the "mind". Since the rise of social software, the distance between people has become farther... Without Facebook reminders, how many friends still remember your birthday?
I'm not totally against social software. It brings wanderers around the world closer to their loved ones, but its convenience also brings a side effect - addiction. We have to learn to dominate, not passively receive information.
Next, I'll provide some of the key points from the book to build your personal list of stories to increase your happiness quotient! I highly recommend that you read this book when you have free time.
Help yourself create a STORIES list!
When planning an activity plan, or at the end of a project, repeatedly ask yourself the following steps to help you judge whether this project will make you a better you. If not, you can also make revisions through thinking, plus repeated practice, so that every day will be happier and more meaningful!
Divided into seven steps:
- Stories
Did the experience give you a story to tell, or a better understanding of yourself? - Transformation
Did this experience help you develop, grow, and transform? - Outside & Offline
Is the experience outdoors? Can you leave your phone behind and enjoy the moment? - Relationships
Did this experience deepen or expand your relationships? - Intensity
Does this experience challenge you to get into a state of flow and forget the existence of time? - Extraordinary
Is the experience new and beautiful in some way, even extraordinary? It will not be washed away by time, and in retrospect it must be unsatisfactory. - Status & Significance
Was the experience meaningful, or could it elevate status, foster connections, and make others want to learn from you?
Here's my personal example:
I purchased the AutoCAD online course a few months ago and am currently homeschooling.
1. Story: Talking to a friend about self-education.
2. Transformation: In the process of learning, full of sense of achievement, even though it is a field that has never been touched in the past.
3. Going out offline: Because I have to work on the computer, although I am indoors when the activity is going on, I will completely turn off the reminder on my mobile phone, so that I can concentrate and immerse myself in the study.
4. Interpersonal relationship: We chatted about this with some friends and found out that we are close friends. A friend is also planning to take the same course, so we have another connection.
5. Intense: I often forget the time when I draw a picture, and an hour or two has passed before I know it.
6. Extraordinary: Looking back at the results of learning, it is very fulfilling!
7. Status and importance: This part is probably not very obvious, but it gives some friends the motivation to learn new things.
(Reviewing this experience really makes me happy!)
*Experience can be varied, such as mountain climbing, camping, reading...etc. I hope everyone can use this way to experience life and share life! bless.
