The word "decentralization" has been buzzing around for the past 11 years because of Bitcoin and the blockchain.

The focus is on how to establish a consensus mechanism and return governance to the people or organizational participants.

DAO (Distributed Autonomous Organization) or Decentralized Autonomous Organization is a representative system. Governing everything with code has become a utopia in the hearts of many tech-savvy people.

I don't know sociology or politics. But as someone who knows a little bit of technology, I also very much agree with the idea of DAO. But more or less, it will touch the nerves of the power-holders.

Put simply, human desire for power aside, centralized governance is for efficiency. If our next generation can use algorithms to make social governance more efficient, I believe most people will support it.

In addition to using algorithms and codes to achieve decentralization, many aspects of daily life have begun to improve efficiency in a distributed manner.

The most vivid purpose is that during the epidemic, everyone has become accustomed to working from home WFH. Working from home is actually a distributed work model. With the support of sufficient network and software today, WFH will be a trend. Less unnecessary business trips and car use, it is more friendly to the environment and ecology. It also contributes to zero emissions.

Another example is distributed solar power plants, and photovoltaic cells are installed on the roofs of factories or individual houses. In addition to being self-sufficient, excess points can be fed into the grid for use by others. Today, after the cost of photovoltaic cells has dropped, the overall electricity consumption of society can be more uniform, less wasteful, and cleaner.

On the other hand, garbage disposal is actually distributed in a distributed manner. First of all, garbage can be roughly divided into dry garbage (burnable), wet garbage and renewable garbage. Because of Chinese eating habits, wet waste or kitchen waste actually accounts for about 60%. Recyclable waste such as paper, plastic bottles, glass bottles, and clothing. The recycling value is relatively high. Dry waste is generally placed in landfills or burned in incinerators. Japan and Taiwan have done the most thorough sorting of waste from the source, which can improve the reuse rate of recycled materials. Therefore, it is most effective to dispose of garbage disposal at home or in restaurants, but it may not be the most efficient from a personal point of view, because people are lazy and hate dirty characteristics.

In fact, the best embodiment of distributed education is Youtube. On Youtube, individuals are both teachers and students. You can upload your own knowledge sharing videos. You can also find videos from almost any field of knowledge that other people have uploaded. The function of schools can be said to be to make education more systematic and to "produce" the human resources needed by society on a large scale. But to really return to "education", in fact, as long as there are teachers, venues/media, and students, the educational model will take shape. Except that the human resources department of the company conducts quick screening through diplomas in order to make the recruitment process easier, in fact, the school's diploma does not indicate the ability of a person.

Edge computing in the 5G environment is also a manifestation of distributed data processing. Of course, the concept of Distributed Computing is decades old. When to centralize computing and when to decentralize computing is actually a cycle. When the network environment is redundant with respect to the data to be processed, centralized computing appears to be a lower-cost option. However, when the amount of data is too large, the network transmission cost may be too high or there is a delay, so it is best to calculate locally, so distributed edge computing is required.

Speaking of the field where code can be used to decentralize, we see that LikeCoin ecology or LikeChain is also taking this route. LikeChain itself has already achieved community governance. Stakeholders can vote for LikeChain initiatives by delegating validators. Earn LikeCoin on Matters, you are a stakeholder of LikeChain. In fact, the entire ecosystem no longer needs a physical company to operate. The premise is that the founder has this vision and the mind to give up power.

Also, when people post content on Matt City, you will be reminded that the content will be placed on IPFS. That is, the content will be distributed on different nodes of the blockchain. In this way, Internet content can be stored in a decentralized manner.

this point is very important.

For more than 20 years, Internet content has been stored on the servers of Internet giants. For example, the information in WeChat Moments will be "crab" as soon as sensitive words are touched. Even Twitter can block the president's account. This behavior also occurs in countries with a high degree of freedom of speech, not to mention other regions and countries? Therefore, since then, the public has awakened, hoping to decentralize the Internet and not allow Internet giants to dominate the public's freedom of speech. In a centralized system, we have brought monetizable traffic to Internet giants. It would be very ironic if they in turn exploited our human rights.

Not long ago, HSBC, which has always been trusted by Hong Kong people, even froze private property at will for political reasons without a court trial. This also brought unprecedented shock to the people of Hong Kong. It turns out that when we give banks to manage our assets, it in turn exploits our rights to our hard-earned assets over the years. Here's why someone started the #decentralizehk movement.

Indeed, people are likely to trust the code more and more today as the system becomes increasingly untrustworthy. At least the open source code can be reviewed by everyone. I think the post-85s, especially the post-00s, will believe in decentralized finance (DeFi). Although I waited for the post-70s generation to think that DeFi still has loopholes, it has not been verified like Bitcoin for 11 years. It's risky, but willing to try. In particular, the rate of return in DeFi is particularly attractive to those who are about to retire.

What else would become more efficient after decentralization? You may wish to discuss in the comment area.
