Shadowsocks, commonly known as ss, refers not only to the encrypted transmission protocol based on Socks5, but also to various transmission packages that implement the Shadowsocks protocol. It is one of the most popular circumvention tools in mainland China.

1 A brief history of the development of Shadowsocks

Breakwa11 has developed a fork of ShdowsocksR (SSR) that improves security and adds obfuscation over the original Shdowsocks. On July 27, 2017, breakwa11 was personally attacked by an unidentified person who claimed to be "ESU.TV" and was forced to delete SSR's code on GitHub, stop maintaining the ShadowsocksR project and disband the related Telegram communication group. After Akkariiin announced to take over the SSR project and develop ShadowsocksRR branch on this basis.

2 How to use Shadowsocks

2.1 Server side

There are mainly the following ways to obtain Shadowsocks nodes:

2.1.2 Using a shared node <br class="smart">The disadvantages of using a shared node are also obvious - many users using the same node will inevitably lead to low network speed and poor user experience; at the same time, it is easy to cause GFW to be blocked and must be replaced For new nodes, the stability cannot be guaranteed; privacy and security cannot be guaranteed; it takes a lot of time and cost to find and test nodes.

Shared nodes can be used for emergency use and are not recommended for daily use. On Telegram, there are V2ray, the latest release of SSR nodes🚀🚀🚀🚀🚀 , 360 Internet Security Center and other channels that share information about Shadowsocks and V2Ray nodes. Please search for more channels. 2.1.3 Rent a VPS and build Shadowsocks by yourself

2.2 Client

2.2.2 Use of the client <br class="smart">Add a single node: select the protocol type (such as Shadowscoks, ShadowsocksR, Socks5, etc.), fill in the host IP, port, password, encryption method, obfuscation protocol and label, etc.

Import nodes in batches: Add a server type and select "Subscribe", and enter the subscription connection provided by the Shadowsocks service provider.

Most Shadowsocks service providers provide tutorials on how to use the client.
