Decentralized synthetic asset issuance protocol Synthetix recently approved a governance change aimed at switching its voting process from Discord to Snapshot. Synthetix founder Kain Warwick is following up on a second proposal that aims to optimize Synthetix's governance by transitioning it to use the Snapshot platform.

While the initial proposal to switch to Snapshot met with some opposition, some key members of the Synthetix community expressed concern that, without some key changes to the existing voting mechanism, governance could easily be transformed into a dictatorial system, despite large The actual participation of the majority of minority ticket holders is higher, but one person with a large number of votes is likely to kill all of these minority ticket holders.

To address this issue, Kain is now proposing that the SNX community enable a delegated governance council dubbed "The Spartan Council." It will have seven open seats, each elected by Snapshot voting. The council will act as a representative democratic organization, empowered and controlled through token delegation. Full details on how the council was formed and how it operates can be found in this Synthetix Improvement Proposal .

Elected Council members will vote directly according to the following rules:

  1. One Council Member One Vote
  2. If the organizational structure of the council changes during the proposal, if it changes the outcome of the proposal, the proposal is invalid
  3. Proposals require at least three affirmative votes to pass
  4. Minimum proposal period is 24 hours
  5. pDAO may, at its sole discretion, request a re-vote
  6. The number of council seats can be modified through the SCCP

This new proposal hopes to better advance the Syntetix community without compromising SNX's already very successful underlying culture. This is all carefully planned, with the ultimate goal of ensuring that every unique user gets a unique right to vote. Smaller vote-holders can delegate to a council member to represent them so they don’t have to take the time to scrutinize every proposal. If the community decides to support Kain's proposal, the next step is to elect council members through Snapshot.
