A new American president, a new hope for democracy

Today is the inauguration day of the 46th President of the United States, Biden. As Biden said in his inauguration speech, the inauguration celebration is not to celebrate the victory of a certain presidential candidate, but to celebrate the victory of democracy.

President Biden at Inauguration

The general election voting on November 3, 2020, has pushed the social divisions in the United States in recent years to a peak. Ignoring the fact that none of his team's election lawsuits were successful, Trump continued to baselessly accuse Biden of "stealing" the election, until thousands of excited Trump supporters stormed Congress on January 6 this year. Fortunately, after January 6, Trump did not continue to incite protests from his supporters, and the inauguration ceremony of the new president was successfully completed.

President Biden called on Americans to unite to defeat the pandemic, hatred, violence, and extremism.

The plague has taken more American lives than World War II, and we can no longer treat it by doing nothing. The first step in preventing and controlling large-scale plagues is to take them seriously. From the campaign to his inauguration, Biden always wore a mask in public unless necessary, which is a positive sign. Don't say that the federal president has no power to prevent and control the epidemic. The president's words always have the largest audience. When Americans unite to deal with the virus, the plague may be suppressed to the point where ordinary people will not face a threat, and disappear completely as vaccines are rolled out.

Rumors of election fraud have seriously damaged Americans' confidence in democracy. But America has withstood the test. The justices nominated by Trump did not favor the false accusations of the Trump team; the cabinet appointed by Trump did not forcefully declare the existence of large-scale fraud according to Trump's wishes; the Georgia Secretary of State of Trump's party did not accept Trump for an hour Trump's deputy Pence also did not obey Trump and obstructed the congressional certification process. A strong America is not the Weimar Republic, and America cannot produce Hitler. Rumors spread simply by being repeated every day by the president and his cronies cannot stand the test of facts and will surely disappear as their source disappears. Where is the Frankfurt server located? Who still believes that Dominion voting machines are specifically designed to be fraud machines? The American people who have calmed down will definitely have further reflections.

Some people say that Trump represents the hope of half the people in the United States. When Trump is running for the next president on behalf of one of the two major political parties in the United States, he is indeed representing the ideals of half of America. But when he relied on populist and anti-constitutional means to maintain his power, he had betrayed American democracy, so it was inevitable that he would be abandoned by the American people. Of course some would argue that he still has countless die-hard supporters. Yes, any eloquent speaker who is good at speaking will not lack the support of the public in the free land of the United States. Even if he brags and lies, he will have many fans who are willing to follow him. But it can be said that the vast majority of the 74 million voters who voted for him support the ideals of the Republican Party, and only a very small number are his personal fans, especially after the fraud accusations disappeared.

Trump is not the savior, and Biden will not be, because there is no savior in the world. We cannot expect that the plague will disappear immediately, stores will reopen immediately, and job opportunities will surge as soon as Biden takes office. The Chinese who are suffering from the CCP’s dictatorship cannot expect that Biden will immediately make the fight against the CCP his most important task in office. Biden is simply restoring normalcy to America. From Biden's experience and his speeches from campaign to inauguration, we can infer what a democratic, free America that serves as a beacon of democracy and leader of democratic countries in the world should look like, and Biden will work hard in that direction.

America's greatness lies in the democracy established by its founding fathers. Under the protection of the democratic system, the American people live freely and freely, and the ingenuity of every American can be maximized, thus creating a free, strong and prosperous United States. American politicians, like artists, entrepreneurs, scientists, writers, sports stars and other elites, are professionals with specialized skills. Therefore, when politicians, including the president, do their jobs within the framework of the Constitution, they are contributing to the greatness of the United States. The United States does not need politicians who are so maverick that they want to break the constitutional order. Those are not heroes who will restore the greatness of the United States. They are careerists who shake the country's foundation.

Under the leadership of new President Biden, the United States will restore the vitality of democracy and the glory that democracy has brought to the United States. For those who place their hope on the United States to promote democracy and human rights in China, they do not need to be disappointed with Trump's departure, but should feel fortunate, because only the United States, which has restored its democratic vitality, can shoulder the heavy burden of maintaining and promoting democracy around the world.

The mood of those liberal Chinese who place their hope in Trump is understandable. Because of Xi Jinping's iron-fisted suppression and pervasive nationwide surveillance, China has become one big prison. Every Chinese is a prisoner in a prison, unable to resist the suppression of the cold-blooded dictatorship machine. Therefore, as long as there is external pressure on the CCP, whether it is a just crusade or another purpose, many anxious liberal Chinese can no longer care so much. Despite Trump's various personality shortcomings, his tough strategy against the CCP is exactly in line with the expectations of liberal Chinese. However, despite the urgency, if you seek medical treatment in a hurry, the consequences will be completely different. The trade war launched by Trump against China did not put forward any democratic and human rights goals, and did not even mention the requirement to break the Internet firewall in pursuit of market fairness. It ultimately ended with China buying more American agricultural products. As the Chinese Communist Party goes further and further in ignoring the rule of law and trampling on human rights, the United States has promulgated many human rights bills related to China. This is a normal reaction of democratic America to a dictatorship, and is not the result of Trump. Trump's tough stance toward China in his last year before leaving office was not only a proper response from the leader of a democratic country, but also served the purpose of his personal campaign.

Rumors about Biden being bribed by the CCP will certainly no longer have a market, but the notion that Biden and the Democratic administration are "weak" is indeed a lingering impression among people. Yes, considering the human rights losses that come with fierce great-power confrontation, the Democratic Party is indeed less inclined than the Republican Party to adopt tough policies against authoritarian regimes, but this does not mean that the Democratic government will give up its efforts to contain authoritarian forces. President Biden’s inauguration illustrates this point. Among the fewer guests than usual was Taiwan's representative to the United States, Hsiao Meiqin, for the first time in four decades. This sends a signal that the Biden administration’s human rights policy towards China will never be weaker than Trump’s.

We can also expect that Biden will lead the United States to reintegrate international allies to jointly deal with the CCP’s domestic suppression of human rights and external wolf warrior foreign policy. It can be expected that the United States will return to the TPP (now renamed CPTPP) and use economic means to force China to return to the path of respecting the rule of law and human rights. It can also be expected that the United States will deepen economic cooperation with its allies in the European Union to jointly overcome the difficulties after the COVID-19 epidemic, so that European allies will not be forced to cooperate with the CCP for economic interests. It can also be expected that the United States will return to the international stage, get rid of Trump's isolationism, and resume its leadership role in international affairs, such as regaining leadership in relevant United Nations agencies. If this expectation can be established, then it can be further expected that those third world countries in the world will value the attitude of the democratic world led by the United States more and be less tempted by the CCP's money.

The new American president brings new hope to the United States and the world. If God bless America, God will bless the world.
