[Film and Television Talk] New Year's Notes on Netflix: "3 Years Class A", "News Reporter", "Su Perkins Travels to Japan"

(edited)
I can't travel outside for a long vacation, so the best entertainment is naturally to watch dramas. During this new year, I also watched several interesting series on Netflix, which I would like to share with you.

I don't feel much about festivals, but I always feel that the greatest significance of the Lunar New Year is that it is a rare opportunity for Chinese people who are busy all day to enjoy a little bit of holiday.

For the author, at the beginning of the Year of the Tiger, I also took a long-lost long vacation. Even with the work from home and the holiday on the fourth day of the new year, a total of eight or nine days of holiday can be regarded as a recharge for myself.

I can't travel outside for a long vacation, so the best entertainment is naturally to watch dramas. The author, who is often slower than others, has not watched the recent hit "Zombie Campus", but during this new year, I have also watched several interesting series on Netflix, and I would like to share with you here.

"Class A in Year 3, from now on, everyone is my hostage-": Don't do it for the sake of being small

The Japanese drama that premiered in 2019 was recently seen on Netflix and was officially watched three years later. I remember when my friends pushed it and said that I would like it after watching it. If it was true, I watched all 10 episodes in two nights. The rhythm is lively, and the head teacher, who is usually in a weak position, suddenly set up a bomb to detonate the campus one day, and took the whole class as hostages. . .

In order to investigate and clarify the cause of death of the students, the head teacher gave the students a "homework" in each episode. If they couldn't complete it, some people had to sacrifice. In addition to advancing the plot, he also directly taught the audience that they couldn't stop and wanted to see what medicine he was selling in the gourd.

"Don't do it for the sake of being small", this is the biggest feeling after watching the drama. An unintentional blunder can lead to a big mistake. Especially now that the Internet is in power, once the sword is drawn, it is not so easy to take it back. When the damage has been done, the only thing that can be done is like a student in Class A in 3rd year, You must face up to your past in order to move forward.

Words can hurt people, just like Sugata Masaki's impassioned ending. Obviously many netizens have never met the person involved, but they will use up malicious words that they would not say on a daily basis, attack the target of cyberbullying, and vent their inner pressure. Although what Masaki Sugata did in the play seems to be unable to change these phenomena of the general environment, as long as someone gets insights from it, it is probably not in vain for him, especially when we remember, "Don't do it for the sake of being small. The last sentence of ” is exactly “Don’t do good things because of small things.”

"The News Reporter": Even if there is only one person, we must fight alone

Adapted from the film of the same name by the new director Fujii Michito, based on the biggest political scandal in Japan in recent years, the "Moriyou Gakuen Incident", Ryoko Yonekura plays the role of "Eastern Shimbun" social reporter Matsuda Anina.

In the face of high-level pressure, he had to tamper with confidential documents and cover up the shady story in various ways. The two most impressive characters are the central part, who was forced to obey the orders of his superiors and repeatedly illegally tampered with. In the end, he could not bear the pain and committed suicide. Hidetaka Yoshioka, a civil servant in the Finance Bureau; and Yokohama Meteor, who was originally indifferent to political news, but later felt the injustice under the pressure of power because of the death of his uncle.

Hateful people must be pitiful, but what is the value of conscience? Whether it is to take the risk of breaking the law and obey the orders of the superiors, or to stand up bravely to reveal the truth out of one's own conscience, the dilemmas faced by different characters in the play, in the eyes of today's Hong Kong people, they have a deeper understanding. .

In the era of the disappearance of the media, watching the protagonist Ryoko Yonekura running around to report the truth is so familiar yet so unfamiliar. "Even if it's just me, I'll fight alone," is one of her famous words. May we all continue to persevere in difficult times with this belief.

PS I saw some reports that the director deliberately made Ryoko Yonekura, who used to show a strong attitude in dramas in the past, acted softly this time. I don’t know if this is the reason. .

"Su Perkins Travels to Japan": The gift of wanting to travel, but unable to travel abroad

Unable to travel abroad, I found a TV program that introduced Japan to stop my addiction. I watched "Joanna's Journey to Japan" first, and then watched "Su Perkins Travels to Japan". I also explored Japanese culture in the form of a documentary. I felt that the latter introduced more personal charm, full of joy but without losing solemnity. Then I realized with hindsight that Sue Perkins was not only a show host, but also a show host. Also a comedian, no wonder.

Sumo Competition, Robot Pepper, Idol Girl Group, Maid Cafe, Fishing Haenyeo. . . These Japanese cultural phenomena are not unfamiliar to the general public, but Sue Perkins extended them from an interesting angle. For example, he talked about the difference between men and women from the national quintessential sport of sumo; after watching the performance of the idol girl group, he talked about how to Changing her perception of these audiences; seeing how the Haenyeo get along with each other makes her feel the importance of community and cohesion.

These may be trivial, but in addition to shopping and entertainment, it is also good for the audience to learn about Japan that they often visit in a relaxed way. Also because I quite like Sue Perkins' hosting style, after reading the Japan she introduced, I immediately opened the "Sue Perkins Tour of the Mekong River" also hosted by her. Although the author is not actually very interested in the Mekong River, it becomes easier to enter the world by deepening the understanding of the culture behind it.
