Perth Diary Day 224: Talking about the Disadvantages of Living Abroad

(edited)
In the blink of an eye, I have lived in Australia for eight months, and many of my friends should have noticed my admiration for living abroad, although I have also given my own explanation in the past articles, which comes from the difference in the center of each person's pursuit of their own life. But in fact, I can still observe the disadvantages of living abroad from the perspective of a third party, but these disadvantages are not worth mentioning in front of the freedom I value.

A few weeks ago, I also reposted some of my articles on encouraging friends to live abroad on the bbs forum of the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, where I studied at the postgraduate level, which aroused cynicism from a group of juniors and teachers, saying that I did not mention the inconvenience of living abroad, including the There are friends who came to live abroad after reading my article, and there are even friends who hope to change their lives in a different environment.

In fact, life abroad does have many inconveniences, and it is indeed not suitable for everyone's life.

What kind of talents are suitable for going abroad

Friends who have been following me for a long time naturally remember the hit-and-run incident when I was driving, how many mental blows I encountered when I rented the house I have now, and how I encountered fraud when shopping online. Even now, my line, whatsapp There are still many people sending fraudulent information on the account every day, and even receiving fraudulent calls from the embassy almost every day.

But in general, there are many things that belong to the external environment and are beyond our own control, and there are many things that belong to our own ability and can be compensated through personal changes and efforts.

For example, most people complain about the problem of not being able to integrate into the local area. If you can’t get away from the familiar Chinese living environment, you will naturally be surrounded by the cultural environment you don’t like. Language is naturally a way for you to communicate with people from different cultural backgrounds. The basics are already there, but language alone is not enough. Now I have no doubts about the proposition that people's greatest wealth is their thoughts. Many times in communication with others, a few simple sentences can already determine whether they have similar three views and common topics.

There is no difference between Chinese and foreigners on the philosophical issues of life. Everyone is troubled by their own family problems and education problems, but as one sentence describes: each unfortunate family has its own misfortune, And happy families are the same, so happiness is shaped by a fundamental living habit, style and attitude, and has nothing to do with race or skin color.

If your topic is a valuable, convincing point of view, and can be recognized by the other party, then even if the language is not fluent, the other party will still be interested. Of course, not everyone has the recognition of valuable ideas. This It also requires individual self-judgment.

In the past two days, I have chatted with the principal of the largest pension institution and training school in Perth, as well as with the party representatives in the core area of Perth. Today, I also chatted with an old lawyer in his 60s who was introduced by a friend. English is not enough to hinder me from expressing my thoughts. The feedback is also positive. They also actively introduce their circle of friends to me. I think this is an affirmation of my past thinking improvement.

But even if it is the same topic, many times in the Chinese circle of friends, it is more belittled and suppressed, so if you come to Australia and still hang out in the circle of friends of crab psychology, you will naturally feel no different from living in China.

Some friends will complain that people who come to this unfamiliar environment are not recognized. This is actually my mental journey, but for a mature immigrant country, immigration is actually very common, and people living there will naturally not be like China in the past. The enthusiasm of foreigners, it is impossible to be as respectful to every foreigner as the Philippines, more of us immigrated here with the attitude of wanting to be tolerated, but after all, we have no experience of living here, no friends, I don't have a job, I don't have any credit history, I haven't even paid taxes in this country with good infrastructure. I think it's normal to be treated coldly, but to be warmly treated, you have to be careful, because being recognized requires time to interact with each other. Knowing and familiar, I think this is also the basic expression of a mature individual maintaining a sense of distance between individuals.

If you want to gain recognition from others, you need to take a step to let others know about yourself and your personality and attitude. This is also the main reason and purpose for me to join the local speech association and work in a local family.

Disappointment in other aspects of living in Australia is more likely to come from my understanding of the Chinese community. In fact, I already knew about this when I lived in the Philippines. At that time, I was reminded to be more careful about my own ethnicity. Friends, when I came to Australia, this has improved because it is an environment with a more complete legal system.

But the deep-rooted influence from that big environment has not changed much. This influence is more from ideology. The Chinese people's view that helping each other is helping themselves is very weak. , this is evident when I propose that I want to do my own business. The first reaction of Chinese friends is to raise countless questions and pressures, while foreign friends get more encouragement and suggestions on methods.

Many Chinese friends leave their ancestral places and come to an unfamiliar environment. They are more disappointed with the big environment, but before they reflect on the influence they have suffered, they will actually practice raising them in the original environment. The habit of becoming, just like the influence of the original family environment, without reflection and courageous change, we will become the parents we hate.

And these constitute the biggest drawbacks of the humanistic environment of Chinese circles abroad.

In fact, the way foreigners get along will be more about their own life, family relationship, parent-child relationship and personal hobbies, and these will belong to the problem of personal growth, so personal growth can solve the problem of living in a strange place fundamental problems of the environment.

I am actually very fortunate that I experienced three years of buffering in the Philippines before landing in Australia, which gave me enough time to think and room for growth, and gave me a more positive attitude to adjust my mentality in my local life. Life is not for everyone, it just depends on what a person is in the life they pursue? Is it freedom, or the familiar comfort zone of life.

In addition, the ignorant I just read Plato's cave metaphor today and share it with you, hoping to explain why I want to encourage more people to emigrate.

There is a famous story in the seventh volume of Plato's "Republic", which is called "cave metaphor" in academic circles, which is about the relationship between phenomena and facts.

In this story, Plato describes a cavernous cave, with only a long passage connecting the outside world, and only a very weak light shines into the cave.

Some prisoners have lived in caves since childhood, their heads, necks, legs and feet are tied, they cannot walk or turn their heads, and they can only look forward to the walls of the cave.

Above their backs, a torch was burning, and between the torch and the prisoner there was a road and a wall.

And behind the wall, facing the firelight, there are other people holding various puppets and making the puppets perform various actions.

The prisoners saw the images projected on the wall in front of them and mistook them for the real thing.

At this time, one of the prisoners was released from the shackles. He stood up and looked around and walked out of the cave. Then he discovered the truth of things. It turned out that all he saw was an illusion, and there was a bright world outside.

So he no longer wanted to live this dark life, and wanted to rescue his companions.

However, when he returned to the cave, his companions not only did not believe every word he said, but felt that he had run up there, and his eyes were burnt by the sun after returning, and they couldn't seem to move forward. That's how to identify "images".

Since they didn't want to leave this familiar world at all, they killed the good-hearted man.

It has to be said that this prophecy of Plato still has practical significance today, thousands of years later, because it is more of a metaphor about human nature. No matter how the times change, human nature will never change.
