Taiwan began to inoculate its own "high-end vaccine" on August 23, but because the review process was extremely controversial, and it did not follow the traditional clinical trial method of new drug development for Phase III experiments, the "immune bridging" method was adopted directly. People stay away. Although the number of victims is not too small, many people have no other options in Taiwan, so they can only reluctantly get vaccinated, but there are also a large number of green camp basic doctrines who actively and fanatically advocate the use of "domestic vaccines", which are close to Religious fanaticism has spawned a new term in Taiwanese society: "Taluban".

PTT, a large social platform in Taiwan, on its popular page "Gossip Edition", on August 26, an article titled "[Ask Gua] Will the Ta Luban go to Maijia for a pilgrimage?" . The article compares the "Taliban" in Afghanistan with the "Taliban" in Afghanistan. Those who advocate high-end vaccines are called "high-end holy cockroaches", and they can read the classic "Block Blue Book" (sarcasm by "Friends of Xiaoying" The member's Facebook fan page "Just Blocking Blue"), said that these people would shout "Ala Hua Ma" when they exploded ("Hua Ma" refers to the current Taiwan Superintendent Chen Ju, who was the mayor of Kaohsiung in 2014. , Kaohsiung City had an underground gas pipeline explosion), and they will also go to the Chin Ching Temple (referring to the current Taiwan Executive President Su Ching Chang), and netizens also said that the believers would go to the Prophet Muhan Qingde (referring to the Vice President of Taiwan, Lai Ching Tak, whose name is the Prophet) When he was the mayor of Tainan, he often predicted the path of typhoons and announced a half-day vacation), the birthplace of "Maijia" (sarcasm Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Qimai).

As soon as the article came out, it set off an enthusiastic response on the Internet, and netizens who were disgusted with the DPP government enthusiastically forwarded it, and continued to add more detailed settings, such as the holy city "Smoke Road Salem" (sarcasm during Tsai Ing-wen's visit to diplomatic countries in 2019, The guards of the Taiwan Presidential Palace used their power to buy more than 10,000 sticks of cigarettes for smuggling) and so on.

The flanking cyber army who supported the DPP government jumped to their feet with anger, and began to besiege and suppress netizens who criticized the DPP government, claiming that these netizens were humiliating Muslims, intimidating and threatening to inform the Islamic State (ISIS) of their actions. It also informed the Islamic Association of Taiwan (Islamic Association of Taiwan), an Islamic organization in Taiwan, which issued an article on August 27 calling on netizens to stop swearing at Muslims, saying, "These abuses that you can see in Taiwan are not terrible, they are like a cup of poison. , just stay away; what is scary is that many international English websites spread specious remarks in the name of Islam, like a few drops of poison juice, which make people unconsciously poisoned. people, may your hearts be at peace as soon as possible.”

The Composition of Taiwan's Muslims: Chinese Muslims and Southeast Asian Muslims

Muslims in Taiwan can be roughly divided into two main groups. The first major group is Chinese Muslims. Except for a few Muslim businessmen who moved from Quanzhou, Fujian Province to Taiwan since the Yuan Dynasty, they were mainly from 1949, during the civil war between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party, along with the then Defense Minister Bai Chongxi, Army General Ma Bufang and others. Most of the groups in Taiwan came from Yunnan, Ningxia, Xinjiang, Gansu and other northwestern provinces. At that time, the number of people was roughly estimated to be about 20,000. Most of the major mosques and restaurants in Taiwan were opened by this group, and the "China Islamic Association" ( The Chinese Muslim Association) has landed in Taiwan.

In the 1980s, due to economic and trade exchanges with Middle East countries (mainly Jordan and Saudi Arabia), coupled with the vigorous revival of Islam by Bai Chongxi and others, the Chinese Muslim population in Taiwan once increased to more than 50,000. The death of influential people and the severance of Taiwan's diplomatic ties with Middle Eastern countries has led to a shrinking number of this group, and it is unclear how many are left, with the United States Department of State reporting in 2006 that there were approximately 53,000. According to Qu Haiyuan, a scholar at the Institute of Social Studies at the Taiwan Academia Sinica, there are about 20,000 Sunni Muslims, while Ma Zhongyao, secretary-general of the Chinese Islamic Association, estimates that there are only about 5,000.

The second major group of Muslims in Taiwan is the Muslims from Indonesia and Malaysia who entered Taiwan as foreign workers and spouses after the 1990s. It is estimated that the number of this group exceeds 200,000. As Taiwan is entering a low birthrate and aging society, it needs to supplement foreign labor, so it is actively introducing labor from Southeast Asia. With the increase in the number of Indonesian Muslims entering Taiwan, Taiwan has also built new mosques mainly for Indonesian Muslims in Taoyuan City, Pingtung County, Hualien County and other places in recent years, and also added Muslim prayer rooms in some public facilities such as airports. There are nearly 100 halal certified restaurants, but its "care" is obviously still far from enough.

'Muslim friendly' under political calculations

As early as the Lee Teng-hui era, Taiwan tried to promote a southward policy, hoping to offset the economic influence from mainland China, so it gradually paid more attention to this group. Although it had little effect, it continued to follow this path during the Tsai Ing-wen period. , to increase the implementation of the "New Southbound Policy". In addition to wishing to deepen economic and trade exchanges with Southeast Asian countries and get rid of the gradually deepening dependence on trade with mainland China, it also tries to increase the efforts to introduce migrant workers from Southeast Asia. In terms of relations, strengthen the "same language" ties between Taiwan and Southeast Asian countries in order to achieve the goal of "de-sinicization".

The "friendliness" of Taiwanese society towards Muslims obviously has a stronger political connotation. The friendliness of the 1980s was a desire for cheaper oil from the Middle East, but after diplomatic relations broke down, the Muslim community shrank. From the 1990s to today's "New Southbound Policy", it is hoped to use the strength of Muslims and Southeast Asian countries to help Taiwan achieve "de-Sinification". However, the results are not good so far, and Taiwan's trade with mainland China still accounts for The increase is mainly due to the fact that the economic constitution and size of Southeast Asian countries are not as good as those of mainland China.

The "Muslim-friendly" policy of the Taiwanese government is actually highly linked to the political intentions of "de-Sinicization" such as the "New Southbound Policy". (Central News Agency)

The Taiwanese government seems to have deliberately confused the two concepts of "Southeast Asia" and "Muslim". The "Muslim Carnival" held by government units has actually become a carnival that favors migrant workers from Indonesia and Malaysia. The number of Muslims in the Middle East, North Africa and other countries is anyway. Not many migrant workers in Southeast Asia are not all Muslims, Vietnam and the Philippines also have a large number of Catholic migrant workers, and Thailand also has a large number of Theravada Buddhist migrant workers who have entered Taiwan, but they are obviously not relatively strong. group. Perhaps what the DPP government is thinking about is just to convert the Southeast Asian Muslim group, which has a tradition of rewarding multi-childhood, into its own future votes, so it pays attention to and attaches importance to this group of "new immigrants" and allows this group to "replace." "Chinese Muslims have become the main body of Muslims in Taiwan.

Who is humiliating Muslims?

The Taiwan government has not been able to clearly clarify the composition of the Muslim group. Naturally, it will not promote a policy that is truly friendly to them. Instead, it will adopt a mentality of consuming as much as possible. This is still reflected in the fact that Taiwanese society does not care about "new immigrants". To be truly respectful, Taiwanese media regularly review the behavior of this group of theft, child abuse, and elder abuse, and places where "new immigrants" gather are often reviewed and reported as "social problems", while Taiwan Locals also often consciously avoid venues where these groups gather, and avoid dining at restaurants with them as the main customer group.

Under the surface of "Muslim-friendly", there are many unfriendly details. For example, Taipei Main Station announced a "sit ban" in the central square, which made Southeast Asian Muslim migrant workers who are accustomed to eating on site quite dissatisfied. (Provided by Taiwan Railway Company)

Even during the COVID-19 outbreak, Taiwanese media turned a blind eye to imported cases from Western European and American countries, but the behavior of migrant workers in Southeast Asia was examined with a magnifying glass, for fear of missing something. The local area will cause a breach of infection, but their treatment in Taiwan is at least better than that of people in mainland China.

The unclear distinction between the understanding of Muslims and migrant workers in Southeast Asia has led to a blurred vision of Muslims in Taiwan. Many Taiwanese think of terrorist attacks when they mention the Muslim prayer "Ala Huagua". This cognitive bias is obvious and is caused by the subtle influence of American culture, led by the Hollywood series in the United States, for many years. The United States is a father, how can it be possible to admit that its unkindness to Muslims is caused by American culture? The Indonesian migrant workers, who mainly constitute Taiwan's Muslim group, will be converted into vote groups by the DPP government in the future. If they find out that the Tsai government is actually not friendly to them, the future elections will be cold.

What Taiwanese netizens ridicule is not Muslims, but the DPP government, which has brainwashed its supporters into religious fanatics and embraced "Taiwanese values" as its basic teachings. (Facebook@Hanjiajun Municipal Publicity)

The flanking cyber army deliberately pulled the "Taiwan Islamic Association" into the battlefield and "smeared" netizens, trying to create an atmosphere where supporters of the Kuomintang and other opposition parties humiliated Muslims, also claiming that these netizens caused Taiwan to fall into a national security crisis, in case of terror What if the terrorists go to attack Taiwan? If terrorists want to launch an attack, please also target these "unfriendly blue campers".

Although netizens do have some stereotypes about the depiction of the "Talluban", most of the domestic laws of the regime with Islam as the state religion are still based on Islamic law. Religious fanatics ideologically regard "Taiwanese values" as the norm, and the DPP government with "no separation of church and state". For Muslims, being compared to the DPP government may be the source of their real humiliation.
