"Heavy Metal Country Tour 2021" will go to 8 heavy metal-contaminated villages in China to perform performances. Through heavy metal music, he will pay attention to heavy metal pollution, and try to promote the governance and change of relevant enterprises and departments.

Compared with the bed performance in Yangchun, Guangdong (the whole process of "witness" by the Yangchun City Propaganda Minister and the street secretary, as well as the jing car, the 120 ambulance, and the epidemic prevention vehicle), the performance scene in Shaanxi was less tortuous. Shahezi Town, Shangluo, Shaanxi, is the second stop of our heavy metal country tour. For the whole heavy metal country tour, we invited two bands, one is the Old Man Band, which is responsible for performing in four places in the north; the other is the Soil Improvement Band, which is responsible for the four-station tour in the south. In fact, we originally planned to invite 8 heavy metal bands to participate. Due to various reasons, there are so many great heavy metal bands in China, but only two of them participated. The courage and responsibility of "Tour to the Mountains": when reporters may be beaten, environmentalists may be arrested, and volunteers are often intimidated... In this context, we went to 8 places in China to tour and speak out for polluted areas. There are many risks (one of our small partners was beaten by many people during the research process, and his leg injury has not yet recovered. He was forced to delete photos, was intimidated, and was depressed. After the investigation, he lost 20 pounds).

After the 5th stop of the tour, we went to the house of Old Man's drummer didiaoZ to pet the cats (there were 6 cats!), we wobbled our bikes on the street, we drank and chatted and heard we just turned 18 on the tour The birthday lead singer X said that she had written a suicide note before the tour... It is said that the Old Man Band spent some time researching how to deal with danger in the event of danger. Some say it's a huge joke. For the performance in Shahezi Town, Shaanxi Province, our slogan is: "Fry heavy metal vegetables, listen to heavy metal music" (local residents have eaten vegetables for many years, and the heavy metals generally exceed the standard, up to 10 times!)

Note: Experts revealed that the initial symptoms of chronic cadmium poisoning are fatigue, headache, dizziness, nasal mucosa atrophy, cough, stomach pain and weight loss. Villagers in Shangluo complained that more than 30 mu of fertile land was occupied by the zinc smelting factory for sewage treatment.

2018

Villagers in Shahezi Town, Shangluo reported that the zinc smelter dumped tens of thousands of tons of industrial waste (including sulfuric acid, lead, copper, cadmium, indium, and various chemical elements) into the river upstream of drinking water in Lingou Village. km and 2.7 km, the normal drinking water of more than 1,000 people in the village is seriously polluted.

2019

Environmental protection volunteers revisited the local area, the pollution remains, and ecological restoration is still a long way off.

Why do similar environmental pollution incidents emerge one after another in Shangluo? When can pollution chaos be dealt with? Investigators recently conducted field investigations in Shangluo and revisited Blood Lead Village. It is understood that since the establishment of the factory in Shahezi Town, Shangluo in the 1990s, Shangluo Zinc Refinery, Shangluo BYD, and Shangluo Thermal Power Plant have developed rapidly under the attention and support of government departments, and soon developed into Shangluo’s Famous enterprises and large profit and tax households have also made great contributions to the economic development of Shangluo. However, since these factories are all high-pollution enterprises, they have also caused great damage and pollution to the local environment while achieving economic benefits.

Shaanxi Zinc Industry: Nearby crops all exceeded the cadmium standard, some vegetables exceeded the cadmium standard by 10 times, and the soil cadmium exceeded the standard by up to 171 times

Shangluo Zinc Smelting Plant (Shaanxi Zinc Industry Co., Ltd.) is a leading enterprise in the smelting industry and is now a state-owned enterprise controlled by Shaanxi Nonferrous Metals Group. The factory is located at the southern foot of the Qinling Mountains and the bank of the Danjiang River in the southeastern part of Shaanxi Province. There are many villages such as Lingou Village and Luo Village within 600 meters of the factory.

Since 2013, many residents in Shangluo have reported that since the establishment of the Shangluo Zinc Refinery Plant, a large amount of waste water and waste gas have been recklessly discharged, resulting in reduced crop yields, withered trees, and a pungent and unpleasant odor in the air, making the masses miserable. The environment was seriously polluted, resulting in blood lead poisoning of nearly 1,000 local children.

At that time, the Shaanxi Provincial Department of Environmental Protection established an inspection office to rectify the environmental problems of the Shangluo Zinc Refinery, requiring the company to evaluate and restore the surrounding environmental conditions, carry out health education, physical monitoring and preventive treatment for surrounding children, and urge the masses to relocate .

Eight years later, the investigators revisited the blood lead village and saw that the wastewater from the Shangluo Zinc Refinery was still being discharged into the Danjiang River through the sewers. Wastewater discharged into the river was gray, very turbid, and smelled of chemicals.

Investigators took water samples for testing. After testing several indicators, they all met the standard, but the zinc exceeded the standard by 4.4 times.

Residents in Shahezi Town told investigators that the environmental protection problems of the Shangluo Zinc Refinery have improved in the past two years, and the river is no longer black. ”.

It turns out that the local government has invested a lot of energy and cost in the governance of the Danjiang River in recent years, because this Danjiang River carries the mission of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project.

So, are the crops here safe? The investigators sampled and tested the soil and crops around the Shangluo Zinc Refinery. The situation is as follows:

Coriander - sampled in Libaozi Village near Shaanxi Zinc Industry Co., Ltd., 88 meters away from the factory, the detected cadmium was 0.78mg/kg, the standard value was 0.2, and the excess was 3.9 times.

Shanghai green cadmium exceeded the standard by 1.2 times

Shanghai Qing -Sampling was taken in Libaozi Village near Shaanxi Zinc Industry Co., Ltd., 84 meters away from the factory, and the detected cadmium was 0.24mg/kg, the standard value was 0.2, and the excess was 1.2 times.

Green pepper cadmium exceeds the standard by 2 times

Green prickly ash - sampled in Libaozi Village near Shaanxi Zinc Industry Co., Ltd., 40 meters away from the factory, the detected cadmium is 0.4mg/kg, there is no standard requirement, the standard value of kale is 0.2, it can be judged to exceed the standard 2 times.

Rapeseed Cadmium Exceeds 2 Times

Rapeseed —sampled in Libaozi Village near Shaanxi Zinc Industry Co., Ltd., which is 73 meters away from the factory. The detected cadmium is 0.46mg/kg. There is no standard requirement. The standard value of kale is 0.2, which can be judged to exceed the standard 2 times.

Over the years, in the villages where thousands of children's blood lead exceeded the standard, the heavy metal content of various crops exceeded the standard. Among them, the cadmium of shallots was 10.8 times higher than the standard; lettuce was 9.5 times higher than the standard. The local authorities have not repaired the contaminated soil, and the villagers who have lived here for generations have no other choice but to eat vegetables with cadmium levels that exceed 10 times the standard.

In addition, the investigators also found that the zinc smelter was still filling pollutants at the source of the drinking water of the villagers in Lingou Village.

Lingou Village is located in the northwest of Shaanxi Zinc Industry Co., Ltd. The village is more than 400 meters away from Shaanxi Zinc Industry Co., Ltd., with a population of more than 1,600. The villagers once complained to the government that Shaanxi Zinc Industry Co., Ltd. dumped tens of thousands of tons of industrial waste (including sulfuric acid, lead, copper, cadmium, indium, and various chemical elements) into the river upstream of the drinking water in Lingou Village. 2 kilometers away and 2.7 kilometers away (the water ditches on both sides of the road in the Wohuling Scenic Spot), the drinking water of the villagers in Lingou Village is seriously polluted.

When the Shahezi Town government sent people to investigate, Shaanxi Zinc Industry Co., Ltd. used bulldozers to bury tens of thousands of tons of production waste, and simply covered it with soil, and it was gone. The buried waste is still in place.

The villagers complained, "The pollutants are too close to our drinking water source. Drinking this kind of water every day makes me tremble with fear every day, worrying that one day I will become seriously ill and die."

Shangluo BYD: stealing sewage at night

Investigators found that BYD's sewage outlet was set on the bank of the river, and there were various weeds growing on the edge. Some villagers plant corn and green onions on the riverbed.

The investigator came across villagers who grow vegetables in the riverbed. He revealed that although the government has conducted serious investigations in the past two years and prohibits companies from secretly discharging sewage, BYD will still secretly discharge sewage while taking advantage of the darkness. .

We tested the soil on the banks of the Danjiang River, and the test showed that the cadmium exceeded the standard by 3.45 times.

The illegal discharge of sewage from enterprises directly affects the water safety of residents. The locals told the investigators that the villagers would dig a well beside the Danjiang River to fetch water and eat the water from the well beside the river. If the river is polluted, the well water will also be polluted.

Shortly after the investigators talked with the villagers, they smelled a pungent smell like chemicals from the river water. The old farmer said, "We live in a village near the river, and this pungent smell often comes in through doors and windows, which is hard to resist."

On the same day, we checked the online testing data produced by the Shangluo BYD manufacturer, but it showed that all the data were normal, and there was no heavy metal exceeding the standard.

Investigators interviewed a number of BYD employees. They said that at present, the factory is in turmoil, the company has laid off a large number of employees, and some employees are on paid leave, waiting for the factory to call back to work at any time. It may be that there is not much work started, so the online monitoring data is normal.

However, an old employee who has worked in BYD for more than ten years revealed to the investigators that the pollution in the factory area is still serious, and the positions with more serious pollution need to be replaced in a year or two.

Shangluo Thermal Power Plant: Noisier than setting off firecrackers, non-stop 24 hours a day

Thermal power plants are prone to generate a large amount of industrial solid waste and continuous noise. How to deal with solid waste and disturbing noise are two major problems.

Investigators visited Shangluo Thermal Power Plant and found that the plant's EIA was falsified. In the EIA report submitted by Shangluo Thermal Power Plant, it is written that the ash storage yard of Shangluo Thermal Power Plant is to be built in Liaoyugou, about 3.5km southwest of the site, to meet the three-year storage requirements for ash, slag and desulfurized gypsum. . However, the investigators found that the ash storage yard was located in a depression called Baiwa in the north of the plant site, and the straight-line distance from the Danjiang River was only 1.583 meters.

That is to say, if the Shangluo Thermal Power Plant does not take the industrial solid waste pollution prevention and control measures required by the EIA, there will be a great safety hazard to the surface water environment.

What troubled the villagers even more was the noise generated by the Shangluo thermal power plant.

As soon as the investigators approached the factory, there was a constant buzzing in their ears.

"It's so noisy." Villager Uncle Li was emotional, "The air here is not the same as before, and the noise is louder day and night. We can't do anything about it. Before, some villagers opposed the construction of thermal power plants, or complained about the noise. But it was handcuffed away, it was too dark."

Investigators searched for relevant EIA reports. The report shows that the main sources of noise in Shangluo Thermal Power Plant are steam turbines, generators, induced draft fans, primary fans, blowers, coal mills, desulfurization fans, air compressors, water pumps, and boiler exhaust. , the noise level is generally 70~100dB(A).

There are villages such as Malingzi Village, Dugou Village, Dugou Primary School and Shiyuanzi Village within 200m around Shangluo Thermal Power Plant. Investigators came to Zhangcun within 200 meters for on-site inspection and learned that the maximum noise at night is 76, which does not meet the Class 2 standard of the "Acoustic Environment Quality Standard" (GB3096-2008). This level of noise is very loud and can damage nerve cells.

Zhang Uncle, a villager in Zhang Village, told the investigators, "This sound is repeated 24 hours a day, and whenever the exhaust gas is exhausted in the middle of the night, the sound is even louder, kuo ci, kuoqi, kuoqi." Uncle Zhang imitated the exhaust. An angry voice, saying that the sound was louder than the sound of setting off firecrackers.

Enterprises such as thermal power plants have brought meager welfare to the villagers, while at the same time infringing on the living environment of the villagers, seriously polluting the water source, causing noise and various heavy metal pollution, the gains outweigh the gains. The villagers hope that the pollution chaos in Shangluo can attract attention and be properly dealt with.

In the spring and summer of 2021, we have completed the investigation of 8 villages polluted by heavy metals in 7 provinces in China (there is also 1 extra project: ZiBo hot pot fish ), which is 8+1. Afterwards, we invited a number of friends to write lyrics based on the research data, and invited two heavy metal bands to tour 8 villages, so that heavy metal could pay attention to heavy metal, let more people see the hidden cruelty, and connect more people to participate—— This project is called "Heavy Metal Rural Tour 2021".
