Political commentator Deng Yuwen

Deng Yuwen has a deep accumulation, is very diligent, and continues to make excellent works. The analysis is pragmatic and rational, and does not cater to extremes. Unique perspective, Wen Feng is old-fashioned, reasonable and well-documented.

Deng Yuwen became a well-known public figure and entered the public domain in recent years. In the early years, he had been working in several media within the system. Later, due to his speech, he was dismissed by the Central Party School's "Learning Times", lost his position as an associate editor, and became an unfree freelance writer. However, it is still listed in the official Chahar Institute, a private think tank approved by the government. Although it does not pay, it is also a platform for activities. At this time, the research and writing mainly focused on international issues, especially the Korean Peninsula issue.

In October 2014, Deng Yuwen and I were invited by the Hong Kong Independent Journalists Association to attend a conference and meet for the first time. There were also Chen Jie and Zola at that meeting, both of whom are Hunan geeks. The former was later revealed to be famous because after being arrested, the official media published a series of articles, exposing and criticizing him for "extorting" huge fortunes through self-media and public relations companies; the latter was very active on Twitter, well versed in network technology, and His wife lives in the countryside of Taiwan. I have a separate account of these two.

At that time, Deng Yuwen had no fixed job, and I was also assigned to the library. He works part-time on the East.com website of Hong Kong Oriental Daily, and I also write a column there. The two sides sympathize with each other and have some exchanges. Later, at a new book exchange meeting of Zhang Yaojie in Beijing 798, we met again.

One day in May 2016, Deng Yuwen came to BFSU Library to find me. His outstanding talent immigrant, which has been approved by USCIS, proceeds to the next submission, awaiting visa process. Let me help him read some English materials, and then help him translate and revise some concise materials. While I was happy for him, I was stimulated at the same time.

Because when I was a professor and director, I was often invited to give lectures abroad. Waiting for the holidays, the wife and daughter will accompany you. The whole family went out a few times, but I didn't think that Europe, America and Japan were so good. The husband and wife have a stable job in China and have everything, except that there is no political democracy and freedom of speech, which is just for me. The wife feels that the years are quiet. The little girl is young, and both Chinese and foreign good and bad are instilled by adults.

Later, because of his remarks, he was demoted to the library. On the one hand, he was depressed, on the other hand, he felt tragic. Self-motivation, others cheer, not everyone can be a librarian? If we leave here, where will the local revolution and political capital come from? As a small influential scholar and a judge of the China Journalism Award and the Changjiang Taofen Award, although I have written recommendation letters for some colleagues and reporters to go abroad, I have never thought about immigration.

It has been two years since the library has been in a flash. Seeing that the future is bleak, I also have the idea of going abroad. But thinking about dragging a family with a family, and starting all over again in middle age, can you go out? how much time is required? What are you going to do after you go out? Never made up my mind.

Now inspired and stimulated by Deng Yuwen, I concentrated my energy and spent more than a month to boil the oil and light the lamp to sort out the materials. Submitted at the end of July 2016 and approved by USCIS 7 days later. After that, although there were many twists and turns and delays, for example, the police station did not issue a non-criminal certificate for me, and the border control expired in March 2017; the visa review after transfer to the US State Department was pending. After waiting for more than a year and various entanglements, I finally got a green card in September 2017. Before Deng Yuwen, he came to the United States and temporarily lived in rural Washington.

During the subsequent process of waiting for an immigrant visa, Deng Yuwen's articles were constantly deleted, and his WeChat official account was often banned and blocked. The Charhar Institute also terminated his researcher position due to political pressure, leaving a platform for its activities to speak out. Coupled with the deteriorating political climate, harassing interviews by the state security, and the education of his two children, he was eager to leave China and start a new life. After all the hardships, his family of four finally arrived in the United States safely and settled in New York.

After coming to the United States, Deng Yuwen's talents were brought into full play, and he continued to write and actively wrote articles for newspapers in the United States, Britain, Taiwan and Hong Kong. Almost every analysis article on Chinese politics and diplomacy has a great response.

At the same time, he has the courage to make a transformation. He is doing a youtube video program in Mingjing. He has a Jiangxi accent and is talented. Although he is small and has a lot of troops, every video has good hits. Although these are not enough to make a living, they can temporarily settle down and accumulate development. In addition, he joined China's strategic analysis, gave lectures, organized conferences, and became an emerging force among overseas Chinese scholars.

Many people come overseas, either becoming more extreme, or silence and seek other people. Some are because the environment has changed and do not want to write; some are too old and cannot write anymore. Deng Yuwen is over 50 years old, not only has a deep accumulation, but also is very diligent, and his masterpieces are continuous. The analysis is pragmatic and rational, does not cater to extremes, and has a unique perspective. In particular, I admired the articles first published on the Chinese website of the New York Times, how the sun rose, why the CCP’s theory of rapid decay and Xi’s incompetence are wrong, and seven pieces of advice for Xi.

In February 2017, I was invited to a conference at Columbia University in New York, and I stopped by Deng Yuwen's home not far from Flushing as a guest. His wife is not working part-time, and he rarely cooks. He cooks by himself, and his son and daughter are very excited to see the guests. Housing conditions and equipment are not as good as in Beijing, and the rent is very expensive. Think about the same tough conditions when I first came here last year. The two at the small dining table sighed that they were reborn in middle age and life was not easy, but they encouraged each other to start over.

During the Independence Day holiday in July 2019, Deng Yuwen's family of 4 and Hu Hao came to Washington from New York to play. They stayed at my house for 3 nights and had many exchanges. My wife and daughter were not at home when they returned to China to visit relatives. His wife was considerate and capable, and cooked several good meals for us. Speaking of the three children of the two families who are of the same age, our generation has a good relationship, and we are not in a foreign country, and we hope that the next generation can connect and help each other.

Der Spiegel's programs decreased, and Deng Yuwen still wrote articles in several foreign media. Retweeted on Twitter, some people love to watch it, some people scold them for washing the floor with five cents, and spy outreach. He and I are both temperamental people, but we don't scold people online, and we're not afraid of scolding.
