Pray for Zhang Zhan, hope she is safe

Indifference hangs over the land, and the flower of freedom has nowhere to grow.

Zhang Zhan was transferred to Shanghai Women's Prison in March this year. There has been no news for more than 3 months, and I am very worried about her.

Accidentally saw the address of the women's prison on twitter, and found that it was only 3 kilometers away from where I lived.

Zhang Zhan was suffering, right next to me, and there was nothing I could do.

Her hunger strike made her suffer every day, and now I don't know how long it will last.

She is now like Mahatma Gandhi in India, but in this country, people are not as enlightened as Indians, and they are not as united as Indians.

Gandhi went on a hunger strike. Indians will be moved by his actions, will cry for him, and will change for him, but will the Chinese people?

Some time ago, someone in Shanghai committed suicide on the subway. Some people accused him of delaying other people's work when he died. The Chinese people are unimaginative about the suffering of others.

Indifference hangs over the land, and the flower of freedom has nowhere to grow.

I can only pray for Zhang Zhan every day and hope she is safe.

Zhang Zhan (born September 2, 1983), from Xianyang , Shaanxi Province , is a citizen journalist and Christian . Bachelor of Insurance and Master of Finance from Southwestern University of Finance and Economics . In 2010, he was introduced to Shanghai as a talent; he used to be a lawyer , and his lawyer's practice certificate was cancelled for participating in rights protection activities and signing activities to revise the management measures for lawyers [1] . Received the Freedom of Speech Honorary Award from the Free University of Belgium, the 2020 Lin Zhao Freedom Award, and the 21st Young China Human Rights Award in 2021.

In February 2020, when the COVID-19 epidemic was spreading, Zhang Zhan went to Wuhan to conduct on-the-spot epidemic interviews under the background that the official restricted reporters from covering the situation in Wuhan [6] . She released a large number of video reports on the Wuhan epidemic and people's lives on her personal Twitter and YouTube [7] [8] . On May 14, 2020, Zhang Zhan was arrested by the Shanghai police across the province at the hotel where he was staying in Wuhan, and was detained the next day on suspicion of " picking quarrels and provoking trouble " [9] . On June 18, 2020, he was formally arrested on the same charge. On August 18, Zhang Zhan's case was sent to the Shanghai Pudong New Area Procuratorate for review and prosecution. In early September, people familiar with the matter revealed that Zhang Zhan went on a hunger strike to protest at the detention center and was force-fed. His physical condition was extremely poor. In December, defense lawyers claimed that Zhang Zhan had been on an official hunger strike since the end of June, and was tortured by forced intubation, force-feeding, shackles, and 24-hour restraint. Zhang Zhan burst into tears when he met the lawyer, saying "every day is a torment". In an interview with the media, the lawyer said that Zhang Zhan may "not be able to get out of the high wall alive".
