Learn to brush your teeth with your left hand

Learning is to reconnect, break comfort + deliberate practice + establish rigid needs. Hmm~~~ What's up with that brushing tooth?!

reconnect

Brushing your teeth, what you have to do every morning when you wake up, do you still need to learn?

No need to learn! If you are right-handed and brush with your right hand.

I am a person who brushes my teeth with my right hand. The right hand I have trained since I was a child can easily pick up the toothbrush, brush up and down, left and right, and can brush quickly!

What about the left hand? What if I switch to a left-hand brush?

Since last month, I started brushing with my left hand first , and it was never easy at first. Looking back, the first day, that left hand didn't seem to be mine, from the moment I picked up the toothbrush and tried to apply toothpaste , I feel totally uncomfortable!

I picked up the toothbrush with toothpaste, brought it to my mouth, started brushing, and from that moment on, I experienced what is called a relearning process of re-establishing neural circuits . The right hand can swipe up and down 2~3 times a second, but the left hand can only swipe once every 2~3 seconds at the beginning.

In the first week, I was still re-acquainting with my left hand. The speed and accuracy of brushing my teeth were pitiful!

In the second week, the left hand can slowly brush the entire tooth, the brushing speed is improved, and the brushing is once up and down every 1 second.

In the third week, I deliberately practiced different brushing methods, left and right brushing plus up and down brushing, and emphasized brushing on the inside instead of brushing the outside.

In the fourth week, the left hand returned~ Now I can brush my teeth with my left hand smoothly. But there is still a gap between the speed of the right hand and the brush.

Learning is breaking comfort + deliberate practice + establishing rigid needs

In the process of brushing your teeth with your left hand, the first thing you experience is discomfort. Especially at the beginning, the way and force of the left hand cannot be accurately controlled. If you accidentally brush your toothbrush too much or too hard, it will hit your gums, which is very painful!

If you can't make it through the first week, you will probably only be able to brush your teeth with your right hand for the rest of your life. In fact, I don't really want to brush my teeth with my left hand in the future. I just want to relearn something through this method, experience the learning process, and feel the uncomfortable feeling of relearning something!

From this, I also realized that learning anything is the same. At the beginning, I stumbled. In the initial stage, I should not be afraid of being stupid, not afraid of being clumsy, and not afraid of making mistakes, and find a small routine that can be practiced repeatedly. At the beginning, I only brushed the left side first, and the rest was given to the right hand; after I got used to the left side, I switched to the right side. It's just like this step by step, then practice on the left and right sides, and finally, on the inner side, then try to brush your teeth by turning the toothbrush up and down instead of brushing your teeth like a saw, step by step, after you are familiar with a project, deliberately practice in places you are not familiar with .

Another element of learning new things is to have rigid needs , the so-called rigid needs , in the vernacular, it is impossible without it!

In order for a new skill to be learned to be usable or even useful, it is necessary to just need it !

The skill of brushing my teeth with my left hand, it is not just needed, because I can also brush with my right hand, so although I can brush my teeth with my left hand smoothly, if I want to be like a right hand, I need to force myself to use only my left hand, creating a false rigid need ! Given time, I believe that I can also brush my teeth with my left hand very smoothly!

reacquainted

To sum up, in the process of learning to brush my teeth with my left hand, I reacquainted my left hand and experienced the process of nerve reconnection. It is always difficult to learn at the beginning. In the initial stage, you should not be afraid of being stupid or making mistakes. Find a small routine that can be repeated and practiced step by step. After you are familiar with a project, deliberately practice in places you are not familiar with. It is best to match it with a rigid need. Even if you don’t have a rigid need, imagine, pretend, and come up with a rigid need!
