Matt City Amway Conference | Recommend a documentary filmed with the heart (My Octopus Teacher)

A year of pursuit has been made into an eulogy of life. Humans can also establish friendship with octopuses and learn from them the courage and meaning of survival.

Documentaries often take a long time to capture a very short shot, just like the extraction of ice wine, a grape can only get a drop of wine, so it is very precious.

I like to watch documentaries very much, because they are more realistic presentations, and there may be editing, interspersed, and artificial interpretations in the middle, but the records under the lens are living testimony of survival. This year's Oscar-winning documentary "My Octopus Teacher" is an original 2020 Netflix documentary. The film was co-produced by the Sea Change Project, Off The Fence and German TV 2, and the main content of the film comes from footage shot by Craig Foster and underwater photographer Roger Horrocks. The wonderful story of Reg Foster, who met an octopus in the waters of the Cape of Good Hope in South Africa, where he lived as a child, and accompanies the octopus throughout his life.

The story begins when the filmmaker, Reg Foster, experienced a life crisis in middle age, facing anxiety and serious life disorders in a high-intensity and stressful career. He chose to return to the place where he grew up as a child and regain his childhood. Favorite - diving.

He spends day and night in the Cape of Good Hope in South Africa with reefs, jellyfish, waves and tides, and the beauty and magic of the underwater world makes him rediscover the joy of life. During a dive, he saw a small creature with a lot of shells around him, just wondering what it was. Suddenly, a small octopus ran away like a broken chrysalis, and Reg chased after him. This chase, chasing out an adventure where people and octopuses meet and know each other.

The average life span of an octopus varies from 6 months to 5 years. Reg and the little octopus have been together for nearly a year, from the strangeness and fear at the beginning to the gradual familiarity, the growing emotions, and occasionally the little octopus will run up to him and act like a spoiled child. Octopuses must have a strong ability to survive in the sea, whether it is catching prey or escaping from the shark's mouth, these bring thrilling life experience. Once, the little octopus was hunted down by a shark. It struggled to absorb all kinds of shells on its body as armor, and also adsorbed on the shark's back to escape. Finally, the little octopus escaped from the tiger's mouth after the shark was exhausted. conveyed incisively and vividly. Later, the baby octopus mates with another octopus and produces a large number of eggs. Female octopuses only mate once in their lives and die shortly after spawning. The corpse of the baby octopus after spawning was attacked by various creatures, and finally fell into the mouth of the shark.

Little Octopus and Reg's last coquetry

Although the whole film is only less than 5 minutes, it took a year to do all kinds of follow-up shots, which also experienced a strong inner struggle. Reg once considered saving the little octopus from the shark's tiger's mouth, but in the end he Respect the laws of nature, and let all dust return to dust and earth to earth.

After watching the introduction of the film, I was deeply moved by the simple friendship between animals and humans, and deeply admired the small and strong life of the little octopus. Naturally, if there is a miracle, the miracle is in this small and ordinary life. This is also the life lesson that the little octopus can teach us.
