Apple App Store total revenue in 2020

According to reports, the latest analysis data shows that the total revenue of Apple's App Store in 2020 exceeds 64 billion US dollars, an increase of 28% from 2019. Data shows that the App Store’s revenue in 2018 was about $48.5 billion, in 2019 it was about $50 billion, and it reached $64 billion in 2020. This shows that during the Covid-19 pandemic, with many people working from home, more time and money are being spent on apps and games, driving strong growth in app store sales. Today, the App Store business has become an important growth area for Apple. The division's performance is credited to Apple's Services division. In fiscal 2020, which ended in September, Apple's Services segment had sales of $53.7 billion. While the App Store has created huge profits for Apple, accelerationism has also become a fuse for Apple to be criticized by the outside world. They argue that Apple has too much power and that the 30% commission charged by the App Store is too high. Recently, Apple adjusted its fee structure to only take a 15% cut from companies with less than $1 million in App Store revenue. Last year, a congressional subcommittee found that Apple has a monopoly over the distribution of iPhone apps. The commission said that was super-profitable for Apple. In addition, game developer Epic Games also took Apple to court on the grounds of monopoly. Apple does not disclose its annual App Store revenue. Instead, every January since 2013, Apple has released some relevant data, including the total amount Apple has paid to developers since the App Store launched in 2008. These numbers give a rough idea of how much revenue the App Store generates based on how much Apple pays developers in any given year. Apple has paid developers $200 billion since 2008, an increase of $45 billion from the figure announced in January 2020, according to a press release published Wednesday by Apple. If that equates to 70% of App Store sales, the App Store's total revenue last year was about $64 billion. The App Store's digital sales share is 30%, with some exceptions, and Apple's numbers are rough, meaning Apple's total App Store sales could be higher. App analytics firm Sensor Tower estimates that the App Store could generate as much as $72.3 billion in sales in 2020. Starting this year, Apple will charge small developers with less than $1 million in annual revenue on the App Store a 15 percent commission instead of 30 percent. But analysts say apps are a "winner takes all" business. Sensor Tower said in 2019 that the top 1% of app publishers generate 93% of App Store and Google Play Store revenue.
