Melancholy Pink Robots: After listening to Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots album

Look inward and see nothing but self-reflection sadness. Look outside and you'll notice that summer is here.

"Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots" is the most famous album of the American psychedelic band The Flaming Lips. It tells the story of a life with psychedelic and sci-fi fantasy. There's a little bit of coherence between the songs on the album, like a rock opera. From exploration, doubt, and love melancholy, with a little sci-fi elements, and then to the point of understanding of life.

Album cover from Wikipedia. Taiwanese translation name: Flaming Lips Chorus-Beautiful Beauty vs. Pink Robot

In the style of The Flaming Lips, it doesn't sound too experimental (except one of the songs is a bit "noisy"), and there is a shallow philosophy of life in it. Listening to these warm melodies may give life a little comfort. .

It all originated from the seemingly boring elementary English course... For those who have passed many English examinations, the freshman is forced to take elementary English, but the textbook introduces such an interesting band" Flaming Lips" and have since fallen into their world. After listening to the album over and over 10 times, I thought it was enough to get an overview of the album.

Appreciation of each song

1.Fight Test

This song seems to be talking about the struggle of life. If you don't want to, how can you cross the hurdles in life? You are already an adult.

Lyrics: If not now, then tell me when you will stand up and fight like a man. If I lose, I can accept it, but in the end I surrender, so I cry

Lead singer Wayne Coyne once said: The concept of this song is: If you face a problem and don't even try to fight, it will definitely make you regret it.

2.One More Robot/Sympathy 3000-21

A robot that comforts humans and simulates emotions, can it still be considered a machine? The melody at the end of this song is a must.

Lyrics: With the whine of the electricity / Begin to replicate the emotion, sense the sadness, start working / To soothe your grief / Another robot, not like a robot

3. Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots, Pt. 1 Part. 1

Yoshimi's Japanese name can be translated as "Yoshimi", and the lyrics say that she is a master black belt and wants to fight monsters. The monster some people refer to in the lyrics is depression/cancer. And Yoshimi! When everyone doesn't believe me, I believe you can defeat them.

4. Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots, Pt. 2 Part. 2

Although it is a continuation of the previous one, this one feels purely in the noise style of... ghost screaming and screaming (please ask the Japanese band OIOOO to assist)

5. In the Morning of the Magicians

The psychedelic morning makes people realize the mystery of the universe. The universe has its own reason for its operation. What is love and what is hate? What is there to argue about?

If the battle of the pink robots in the previous song was a dream...this is what it looks like when you wake up. It is inevitable to think that Pink Floyd has a similar approach in the Dark Side of the Moon album, but the protagonist here is still facing the troubles of youth, please keep reading.

6. Ego Tripping at the Gates of Hell

(Or translation: Consciousness wanders in front of the gates of hell) This song is emotionally depressing, but expresses a strong regret, I think it's not just about love. With an erratic style, the lyrics seem to be muttering to themselves, I have given you so much love, but it seems that I have missed other fates. I was waiting for some shining moment, but it never came, I think my consciousness is probably wandering.

Lyrics: I've been waiting for that moment, but it will never come. In the meantime, millions of other hours have passed. I wanted you to love me, but your love never came. At the same time, the fate of others around me was wasted like this.

7. Are You a Hypnotist?? Are You a Hypnotist??

You seem to be fascinated by me. Could it be that you are a master of hypnotism? The drums were played so violently, and the MV made people have epileptic seizures.

8.It's Summertime

A warm and comforting song, if the whole album is coherent, the atmosphere becomes more sunny and positive from here. The lyrics are simple and the melody is inspiring.

There is a saying very well:

Although no possibility is seen in the future. When you look inward, you see nothing but self-reflection sadness. Look outside and you'll notice that summer is here.

9.Do You Realize?? Did you understand??

For songs that help people build self-identity, see:

You have the most beautiful face, someone you know, will die one day? Instead of saying goodbye to them one by one, let them know that life goes by quickly and good things don't last long. You will eventually understand that the sun doesn't actually go down, it's just an illusion caused by the rotation of the earth.

But the whole song seems to just praise the face, the rest is to say that life is an illusion, good things don't last long... and accept such laws.

Wayne Coyne once said it was one of the best songs they've ever written, and it's their most famous song.

10. All We Have Is Now

Although the last song is pessimistic again, there is another sci-fi scene here! The me from another dimension, never told us "we didn't succeed, we failed"...but what was it that didn't succeed? A plan to conquer the universe? Failed life ambitions? At this time, the protagonist realizes a truth: to live in the moment.

You and I will never be part of the future because we only have the present. All we ever had is now.

There was a scientific saying that you don't live in the past, nor the future, but every moment of "now" we experience will immediately become the past, including you who are aware of this problem.

11. Approaching Pavonis Mons by Balloon (Utopia Planitia)

Pure performance. Take a balloon ride to the utopian plains on Mars, Pavonis Mons, a volcano on Mars.

Wayne Coyne originally used this song as a song for his movie "Christmas On Mars", a hot air balloon landing on Mars at sunset...but felt it was too pop and inappropriate, so decided to get this album instead. For this song, The Flaming Lips won its first Grammy Award.

Summarize

The style of Flaming Lips is more experimental and psychedelic. They like to be funny when they perform live. They hold anti-epidemic bubble concerts, record 24 hours of songs and sell them in skulls, etc. This album sounds a bit more "normal".

This sketch album isn't great, but it's a good sketch every now and then. I am very grateful that I learned English in the seemingly boring freshman year, but the textbook introduced such a special orchestra. This album is a good introduction to listening to Flaming Lips and building on the philosophy of their other albums.
