Being on sea, sail; being on land, settle.

The end of right-wing accelerationism

Land left the UK after a mental breakdown in 2000. After living in Taiwan for a while, he chose to settle in Shanghai. In an article published in the Shanghai Star in 2004, he marveled at the enormous power of the political engine of socialism with Chinese characteristics, which combines Marxism with capitalism. He believes that China's fascination with the future and rapid development has made it an accelerationist society. Land's re-emergence in public life came in 2013, when he became a mentor to the American far-right movement Neoreaction (NRx). Members of this movement believe that nation-state, democratic, and bureaucratic governments will be replaced by an authoritarian city-state (similar to Singapore). Land's 2013 article "the Dark Enlightment" became the platform of the Neoreaction movement. In order to accelerate such a political state, he believes, accelerationists should support political events such as Trump's election or Brexit. In a way, right-wing accelerationism has become an authoritarian variant of Silicon Valley technologism. But its core (technology + capitalism) remains unchanged.
