Station Announcement|About the reading permission of the articles around the furnace

After Matters went online recently, regarding whether it is possible to read the full text through IPFS dataHash, the website clarified the current technical settings, and hopes to clarify and explain to the community as follows:

  1. Aihu is a tool to help creators build paid communities, and it is being gradually iterated. All articles published by creators in the fireplace are currently only open to paid members by default. In the future, creators can also set permissions more flexibly when publishing articles around the fireplace, including multiple options for paid members to read (non-public) and everyone to read (public).
  2. All articles whose creators set "non-public", that is, articles that are only visible to paid members, these articles will not be published in full text to IPFS, only the article abstract (author's custom abstract) and the link address of the article will be displayed in IPFS . Therefore, even through IPFS dataHash, only abstracts and article links can be read, not the full text.
  3. All articles that are set as "public" by their creators, that is, articles that are open to everyone to read, whether they are published in the furnace or not, Matters will be published on IPFS like other free articles published in the community. Let the full text of the article be stored on the decentralized network ( what is IPFS? You can see it here ) and can be accessed through nodes that are not controlled by any platform.
  4. Based on the above principles, at present, during the internal testing period of "Room", if creators directly publish articles in Rizhao, all articles are "non-public" by default and can only be read by paid members, so these articles are not It will be published on IPFS, and only article abstracts and article links can be seen through IPFS's dataHash. However, if the creator moves a public article that was originally published on Matters into the perimeter, it becomes a "non-public" state. This part of the article was originally displayed in full text on IPFS, and we have not adjusted the settings. Thank you for reminding everyone that we are adjusting this part of the settings. After the adjustment, no matter whether the article has been published publicly or not, as long as it is included in the furnace and changed to "non-public" status, it will be republished on IPFS as only abstracts and links can be seen. state.
  5. However, as long as the article has been published for free and openly, it will exist on IPFS. Even if the website adjusts to re-publish, readers may still save and disseminate your article through pre-recorded decentralized nodes, screenshots, etc. Therefore, we suggest that if the creator wants to limit the article to only paid members from the beginning, he can directly publish the article on the perimeter and set it to be readable only by paid members.
  6. The public visibility and free dissemination of an article, and the fact that an article can only be read by paid members, are both demands for both authors and readers. As for the content ecological environment composed of authors and readers, the former maintains the openness and fullness of the public space, while the latter distinguishes different communities and communities. The Matters team has always been committed to satisfying and balancing the two at the same time. We also believe that the foundation of the two is that creators hold complete ownership of their own works, and creators and readers can communicate directly peer-to-peer, free from the monopoly of platforms and others Interference with sexual power. That's why Matters has chosen a progressive decentralization path to provide the solution.

Since the perimeter test, we have received many requests and suggestions from creators, and we are very grateful to everyone. We will continue to iterate, and will soon launch the "invitation system" function. We hope that around the furnace is not only a content transaction, but also helps authors and readers to establish closer connections and exchanges, and a real support network.
