What is the relationship between human body temperature and life expectancy? What kind of body temperature can prolong life?

Generally speaking, the right temperature is good for life. To draw an analogy, the seeds of some plants can still germinate after being stored at 1°C for 8 to 10 years; human blood can still be used for transfusion after being stored in a blood bank at 4°C for 3 weeks. Low temperature is beneficial to life. The average life expectancy of people living in the cold zone is 20 to 30 years longer than that of people living in the tropics. The number of centenarians per 100,000 population is more than ten times that of the latter. To sum up, the editor can hold an objection to some of the "drink more hot water to keep the body warm and avoid catching a cold".

Recently, a joint international team composed of the Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the University of Aberdeen and the University of Aberdeen published the latest research results in the international authoritative academic journal "Nature Metabolism", confirming that hypothermia can prolong life. 40%.

First, the researchers conducted the first experiment. They randomly assigned one-month-old experimental mice to two groups for feeding. One group was kept at a temperature of 21°C, while the other group was raised to 32.5°C. Compare the differences in life span of experimental mice with different body temperatures.

It was found that the average life span of female and male striped hamsters at 32.5°C was shortened by 28.2% and 40.9%, respectively, compared with the optimum temperature of 21°C. The same situation also appeared in Swiss mice, the average lifespan of female and male mice at 32.5°C was shortened by 21.7% and 30.0%, respectively, compared with the 21°C group. This implies that high body temperature can lead to a shortened lifespan.

Why does hypothermia lead to longevity?

1. First of all, medical research has confirmed that there is a close relationship between body temperature and basal metabolic rate. When the body temperature drops, the metabolic rate also drops. When the body temperature drops to 30 °C, the metabolic rate of the human body can be reduced by half, and the oxygen consumption of the body is also half of the normal body temperature.

2. Second, hypothermia causes changes in some hormonal axes, such as the "death-killing signaling pathway" GH/IGF-1 axis, which is very low in activity in the Ames dwarf mouse breed, which is born with hypothermia.

3. A study last year demonstrated that hypothermia regulates nematode lifespan through the brain-gut axis. Although nematodes are far from humans, the principle of life extension is that low temperature activates the longevity signal FOXO, which is a highly similar signaling pathway in all animals, so it cannot be ruled out that other animals/humans also have this life extension pathway.

In daily life, you can take these measures to cool down and prolong your life:

1. Proper cold resistance

One less piece of clothing, "If you want children to be safe, three points of hunger and cold", the same applies to adults. It is better to wear one less piece than to cover too much. If you wear too much, the internal heat will be born, the resistance will drop, and it is easy to catch a cold with a little wind.

2. Proper anti-starvation

Also known as calorie restriction and fullness. Standard calorie restriction practice is very difficult, not only to eat less, but also to eat less for a lifetime. At present, many human studies tend to use 10%-25% of light to moderate calorie restriction. Caloric restriction can lower the body temperature of a variety of mammals, from rodents to humans.

3. Eat less hot food

For example, all kinds of red meat such as pigs, cattle, and sheep are hot and high in calories. Do not consume too much, and appropriately increase relatively mild or low-temperature fish and duck. Eat more grains and fresh vegetables.
