Indiscriminate lover|Is it really out of "love"?

(edited)
"Tangible" contributions, such as donated materials/amounts of money, are easy for most people within their ability, while "intangible" contributions, such as companionship, are often the most difficult to achieve.

"Veteran", before studying in Taiwan, was an extremely unfamiliar term, and hardly heard of it. I vaguely remember the first time in an elective course, when I heard the professor say that I was going to visit the "House of Veterans", because I had never heard of it, I could only automatically associate it with a familiar word in my mind, which was quite rude. Di meditated in his heart - "Clam? Visiting a farmer's house?" After the professor's explanation, he realized that this "honor" is not the other "farmer".

" Honorary Citizens (referred to as Veterans) refer to the retired officers and soldiers of the National Army who meet specific service conditions in the Republic of China. In today's Taiwanese society, "veterans" mostly refer to those who participated in the Anti-Japanese War or the Kuomintang-Communist Civil War and moved with the Republic of China government after the Civil War. Taiwan's veterans from other provinces , however, the number of "senior veterans" of this type has been decreasing year by year, and the current type of veterans is "enlisted veterans in Taiwan". With a more detailed explanation, the initial impression of the "Veteran's Home" is that it is the place where life care facilities are provided for retired military personnel. Individuals classify it as an old-age/retirement care institution. The occupants are elders with "unusual" experiences.

Stepping into the "House of Veterans" and looking around, it can be said that the infrastructure is complete, and the relevant basic medical equipment is also set up in case of emergency. Under the leadership of the organizer, after a general tour of the internal environment of the "Veteran's Home", the focus of the visit was launched, and the interaction with the elders of the veterans was carried out.

For me, who has experience in visiting social welfare organizations, it can be said that I can only count on my fingers. At first, I could only stand around in the same place and mechanically ask the elders, "Are you full?" and "Are you cold?" Such "superficial" greetings; and turned to look at the other group of high school students who were visiting with us this time. I have to say that compared to me, their performance is really excellent, and they warmly communicated with the elders of the veterans. They chatted without talking, but also took the initiative to massage their arms to relax their muscles and muscles.

While most of the visitors were interacting with the elders of the veterans in their own way, they suddenly noticed that an uncle of the veterans was sitting alone far away. He chats.

Similarly, it started with a standard greeting, and then the air condensed for a few seconds. When he was thinking about what other topics to talk about, Uncle Rongmin took the initiative to talk about his past, but because of his concerns about this history (the Kuomintang and the Communist Party at that time) Civil War) did not involve too much, so I failed to respond during the sharing process, just nodded as much as possible and spoke at the right time.

But it was enough to keep the chatter conversation going.

Then it was me who took the initiative to throw the topic. In my impression, it should be movies, old movies; when I was a child, I heard a little about "Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai", "The Drunk Man", "Seventy-Seven" Although I haven't really watched Shaw Brothers classics such as "The Second Tenant", the outline of the content and the title of the film can be explained a little bit; then there are old songs, I vaguely remember that there was a song "The Moon Represents Me" by Miss Teresa Teng on the spot. Heart" to an honored uncle.

"The visit is short-lived. I still don't know if there will be a next time, but the elders of the veterans still live there. Will there be any expectations for the visitors? I hope someone can chat with them and greet them. Greetings, make it feel that it has not been forgotten..."

Ps: When I had the opportunity to get to know that piece of history in the future, I discovered that for some veterans, there is actually a heart-wrenching parting and sadness behind it.

The short story recorded this little experience, and used it as the essay for "Community Activity Proposal | Undifferentiated Lovers: Writing a Story of Love"; however, during the writing process, I kept thinking over and over again. What kind of thoughts do you have with yourself? Is this "love"? If yes, which one would it be? Out of kind love? giving love?

The host asked his son - "What is the "love" you have experienced during this process? "; Son replied - "I don't particularly feel like I do it because I love my father; it's an essential thing that I need to do." "

And this very favorite interview content may be used as a self-answer to the above self-question.
