Murderers in the Sangha

When I was in middle school, I read the writings of the patriarchs such as Chuan Deng Lu and the Sixth Patriarch's Altar Sutra. Later, I read the Mahayana scriptures. After a while, I was in the esoteric ministry. Later, the older I got, the more I liked to read Ahan. Because I always feel that the things I read before are too perfect and have no humanity.

But there are too many things about human nature in Ahan, I think this is the real collection of practice.

In one of them, there is a story about Ji Zai, who has gone too far in his diligent practice, but inadvertently developed a murderous madman.

The Buddha has been advocating the view of impurity for a while, and praised:

"Bhikkhus who practice the contemplation of impurity, and those who practice more, will receive great fruits and great benefits."

The so-called impure contemplation is to visualize the composition of the human body when desire arises, and the process of the human body becoming a corpse gradually after death. It is considered to be a particularly effective way to combat greed in the desire world. It is also one of the Five Stopping Mind Views on the Mindfulness of the Body, and later developed the practice methods such as the White Bone View.

Then the monks who became monks began to practice the contemplation of impurity very seriously, and then they practiced to the point of being very tired of the world (the great renunciation of spirituality), so that they hated their own bodies so much that some people committed suicide with swords, or swallowed poison, took Hanging from a rope, jumping off a cliff to die, or asking other monks to kill him, suicide in the Sangha became a trendy thing, and that trend is probably similar to the current ketogenic diet (wrong).

At that time, a monk also cultivated to the point of betting on himself, so he went to a Brahmin priest named "Lulin Fanzhizi" and said:

"If you can kill me, I will give you all my mantle and mantle."

At that time, there was a lot of murder and suicide in the sangha, so the "Brahmin priest" really killed him, and then ran to the river to wash his knives. At this time, the voice of the demon king praised him in the air:

"Aiya! You are really awesome! These bald boys are trying to get out of this world because of their serious cultivation. If you kill them like this, you are helping them to save their lives, and their mantle and daily necessities are all yours! Really meritorious deeds. Infinite!"

So the "Brahmin priest" heard the voice of praise from the sky and believed it to be true, and ran to the meditation room where the monks were resting with a knife, and said to the monks:

"You bald boys, hurry up and let me be hacked to death! You can get over in no time! Get out of the sea of misery!"

At this time, a group of monks who were very tired of the world by practising unpurified meditation all walked out of the house and said to "Lulin Fanzhizi":

"Damn it! Is there such a good thing? It's fast and convenient? Then hurry up and kill me."

So "Lulin Fanzhizi" hacked to death sixty monks one after another.

Later, when the Buddha called a sangha assembly to preach the precepts, he felt strange and asked Ananda:

"ㄟ~ How come there are so few people here today?"

Ananda said, "Oh, Buddha, you are amazing. You asked everyone to practice the contemplation of impurity, so everyone is very world-weary. In the past half month, sixty brothers from the bald gang before and after have been hacked to death! So There are so few people here today! Could you please tell me something better so that everyone can be a little more hilarious? By the way, make your brains brighter? Don’t die so quickly?”

When the Buddha heard this, he thought to himself, "I rely on this group of mentally retarded people who can play like this?"

So the old man forbade everyone to start cultivating the contemplation of impurity, and then turned around and said to Ananda:

"I think you'd better start by counting your breaths."

This way of counting the breaths is called counting the breaths.
