How to submit your own podcasts to Google Podcasts and claim them in Google Podcasts Manager

google podcast platform

In the past, Google hasn't been as involved in podcasts as its competitors, but it looks like that's about to change. The behemoth tech company recently redesigned Google Podcasts to be compatible with iOS and launched Google Podcasts Manager (replacing Podcast Portal) to give podcasters greater insight into listener behavior.

As of 2020, Android is still the leader in the world's most widely used smartphone, so if your show isn't already listed on Google Podcasts , it could keep your content from being found by millions of potential Android listeners.

Here's a step-by-step guide to claiming your podcasts in Google Podcasts Manager, listing them in the Google Podcasts app and making sure your content is available on all Google platforms!

Submit your podcast to Google Podcasts:

Listing a podcast on Google Podcasts is different from submitting a show to other directories due to the use of Search Podcasts for search technology. Here's how you can help with the process.

1. Make sure your RSS feed and podcast site meet Google’s standards

Before asking Google to index your podcast, make sure your RSS feed and podcast site are searchable and that both meet Google Podcasts guidelines .

If you have a paid Buzzsprout account, the podcast site included in the plan ensures you don't have to do anything to get picked up by Google Podcasts; it's just a matter of time.

2. Submit your RSS Feed URL to Google

If you want to help Google watch your shows faster, you can manually submit an RSS feed to Google . Submitting an RSS feed activates Google's search technology to crawl the internet for your site and should help speed up the indexing process.

If you are a Buzzsprout user, we can submit your website to Google for you. Just log into your Buzzsprout account and select Help . Ask the support team to submit your site to Google and we'll take you there!

3. Wait for Google to index your RSS feed

It can take anywhere from a few hours to a few days for Google to index your RSS feed, so please be patient! If you haven't seen your show on Google Podcasts within a week, double-check the criteria list in step 1.

It may be your RSS feed or the details on your podcast website that keep your show from getting caught up in Google's search technology, so be sure to read the guide carefully!

Claim your show in Google Podcasts Manager

Google Podcasts Manager is a new tool designed to help podcasters listed in Google Podcasts learn more about their audience, similar to Spotify 's new stats feature.

Google's data can tell you things like when listeners tuned in to an episode, when they got off the stage, and what device they were using, all valuable information when you're trying to craft engaging content.

Declaring your show with this tool not only gets you listed on Google Podcasts, but also shows up in Google Search, Google Assistant, and Google Home, so you can ensure your content is easy to find for users.

Here's how to apply for a podcast, you can access useful data about your Google/Android audience and potentially speed up the process of getting listed on Google Podcasts!

What happened to Google Play Music?

Google Play Music is both a music and a podcast streaming service, but it won't be around much longer. Google plans to phase out the platform by the end of 2020 in order to focus more on podcasting. YouTube Music will replace Play Music, and Google Podcasts will be Google's proprietary podcasting platform (rather than merging both mediums into one).

If you're currently using Google Play, you can migrate your media library to YouTube Music and stream podcasts from the Podcast Portal to Google Podcasts Manager so you don't lose anything!

Where else should you submit a podcast?

Make sure they're listed in all major podcast directories, so you can reach your listeners no matter what device, podcast app, or operating system they're on!

More submission channels such as: Apple Podcasts, Small Universe, Spotify, Stitcher, Pandora, etc.
